We went to Mama Petrillos yesterday for dinner. I ordered the gnocchi w/ sausage, poor. My wife ordered the Chicken Gina, good. My son ordered the ravioli, poor. The food was not memorable at all, but that was not what inspired me to write a review.
Most restaurants that we visit with our children offer children's menus. This one had it in a section of the regular menu. We looked at the choices and my son selected the ravioli. When the check came, I noticed they had charged us for the adult meal, so I mentioned it to the hostess. She said she would talk to our server. They told me that since we did not specify they gave us the adult portion. That is fine, but common sense regarding customer service would lead you to correct the bill. They didn't. I asked to speak to the manager/cook. He comes out and proceeds to count the six and one half leftover raviolis and inform us that his waitress's son is 9 but eats more than adults. He informed me that when we come to that restaurant, we need to tell them if it is the child's meal. They were argumentative and rude.
My expectations for this restaurant were not met. The value was not impressive. In my opinion, a restaurant should not initiate a confrontation over a couple of raviolis. Poor service leads to undesirable dining experiences.

I went to Mama Petrillo's in La Verne on a recent Friday night. The place was busy, which is always a good sign. But, it was a complete disappointment from the minute we sat down. The service was slow and the food was awful. I had the lentil soup, which the waitress said was an excellent choice. I would swear it was from a can, and not as good as the can of lentil soup I have at home but still better than anything else they served me. The lasagna was dry and bland and the sauce very bland and boring and almost ketchupy. But what has inspired me to write this review were probably the worst meatballs I've ever had. They were as dense as a golf ball and tasted like one, too. I can't imagine how anyone could serve them, never mind charge money for them.

This place is horrible! My friend and I went for lunch. They were understaffed with only two waitresses for weekday lunch hour. It took too long to be seated, for them to take our orders, and to receive our food. The bread they served was not sliced and was OLD. The soup that came with my eggplant sandwich was sodium ladden canned minestrone soup. My sandwich was just eggplant with some tomato sauce--no cheese! It was definitely not worth $8. Sad to say but you can get better tasting food at a fast food chain that tastes better too. My advice is to go across the street to In N Out. The wait will be the same but the food will be better and fresher.

They offer a wide range of italian dishes here. Pastas, lasagnas, meatballs, raviollis, etc... It's not super authentic, and is a little bland for my taste. Their prices are reasonable for what you get.
