I recently moved into Dartmouth Tower at Shaw after three years of admiring the complex. I previously rented in several different complexes around Fresno, and none even came close to the splendor of Dartmouth Tower. The staff here was always extremely friendly, welcoming, and respectful. After an initial tour of the gorgeous facility and charming unit I would soon rent, I was sold on the property and its management staff. However, the kindness of the management staff very quickly evaporated once I started my move-in inspection and noticed little things about my unit. I am very thorough and noticed that the floor was not cleaned AT ALL around the refrigerator. There were things remaining in the unit, apparently left behind by the previous tenant, including a box cutter and key (which I found beneath the drawer next to the stove). The light box in the kitchen visibly contained dead insects and dust. The bottom shelf on the door of the refrigerator is taped together. There was dirt and hair in the corners, which was never cleaned. They simply waxed right over the dirt and hair. There were long hairs along the baseboards in the bedroom, walk-in closet, and bathroom. I even found small hairs that appeared to be from a man??s beard clippings inside the bathroom drawer. I could go on and on about the little things that I noticed in my unit, but what shocked me the most was the manager??s attitude about my discoveries. She was very rude with me when I wanted to take photos of the unit, and even scoffed and snickered when I pointed out things like the long hairs on the baseboards. I felt like I was being treated unfairly for simply noticing the things that should have been cleaned before I received my keys to enter the unit. I understand that as a renter, we are expected to return an immaculate unit, and I think it is only fair that I should receive one. To the manager??s credit, she immediately called maintenance to do the light cleaning, and she even chipped in and cleaned herself. The gentlemen from maintenance seemed very friendly and understanding about the situation. I wished the manager could have shared their attitude. After the walk-thru with the manger, I called the office with a few follow-up questions, and realized that they were not treating me so nicely anymore. Suddenly, they were short with me on the phone, and even cutting me off mid-sentence. I pay a lot of money to live in what I anticipated would be a respectful and warm home environment. Unfortunately, I feel as though my careful eye may have ruined my chances for a happy home at Dartmouth Tower.
