This is a very large bookstore with three levels. On the top level, they have some armchairs that you can relax in and check out the books. The staff is pretty helpful there too, if you can find them. They also have book readings there sometimes.

Border right now is under construction. It used to have a cafe but there will be no cafe anymore. Border is slacker right now than it used to be. Because sometimes people want to spend the time reading on the table, but right now there will be no spaces anymore. I can't wait until the renovation is done.

I bought a head phone for my mp3 and it is opened. Border has a satisfaction return policy for me that i can exhange/return in within 30 days. Therefore, if i am not satisfied with the product, i can return it within 30 days. Comparing to Barner and Nobel that can only exchanged within 2 weeks. Border has a lot of books collection that i like. I always buy art and photography books there.

Borders has two locations in our town. This review is for the downtown Bookstore. It's a former bank, but has been remodeled and is 3 floors. On the top level are the CD's and DVD's. The main floor is where new best sellers, calendars, the cash registers, coffee bar and magazines are located. The lower level has all books and restrooms. There are several places to sit and browse or drink coffee. Books are competitively priced here and there is a large parking structure next door with free parking for 75 minutes. A 5-screen movie theater is also practically next door. You can sample music you might like to buy or special order books too. The staff is very helpful and courteous.

PROS: has everything you are looking for and more.
CONS: parking could be tight on the weekends.

I have literally spent hours in this store at a time. They have now installed a new system, which allows you to take almost any album, scan it, and listen to either excerpts from each song or, if it's older, the whole thing. Perfect for any music lover who has ever bought a cd only to find out that they only liked the title track. The store is big and clean, though it could use a couple couches, and manages to not feel quite as much like the giant chain that it is. Their selection is pretty extensive, and if they don't have what you want they can usually order it at no fee. The staff is often pretty well-versed on the music if you find the right person to ask. Cheaper than a smaller store.

PROS: huge selection
CONS: could be more comfy

The Borders in downtown Santa Barbara is a great place to find a gift for that special friend or family member. This Borders has three floors of books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, calendars, journals, stationary, etc. FREE gift wrapping, and a cafe. If you happen to be 55 or older, come on a Thursday to receive a 20% discount. Plus, if you don't find what you're looking for, Barnes and Noble is right across the street.

PROS: large inventory, special orders available
CONS: because of its downtown location, parking can be difficult

Borders on State Street is a great bookstore with a great selection of in stock books. If they don't carry the book you are looking for, their staff is happy to order something. Personally, I like that option because you loose out on the bookstore experience when you just order books online. They also attract some great authors for book signings as well, so check their schedule to have your favorite book signed.

Personally I love Borders the best out of the bookstores in town. I guess that's because they also sell videos, dvds, and music. I feel like I can go there and find everything I need, and if not, I can easily order it online from them. I like the downtown Borders because you can sit outside, read a book, have coffee or tea, and people watch. Sometimes on the weekend there will be performers outside too, which is always amusing. I like the fact that it is right next to the theater and parking structure.
