About 4 yrs. ago moved to the Sunnyvale area. I had braces at the time and a wire broke before I could establish an orthodontist. I found Dr. Shimizu in the telephone book and felt at the time I could not have found anyone nicer. His staff told me to stop by to fix it.So I enquired about his rates and found them too expensive for me at the time but was impressed with his kindness. I went with Dr. Yao in San Jose. By the way he has much more affordable prices. I would recommend Dr. Yao and his staff in a heartbeat-genuinely nice caring people. always has a smile for you. I've even gone to lunch with some of the staff. My daughter needed braces last yr. so I decided to go with Dr Shimizu because he was so close to our house and her school. All I can say is he does a good job but his asst. is quite unfriendly. After about the 2nd sarcastic comment to me, I asked to talk to Dr. Shimizu. He led me to a public area where all the staff and waiting patients could hear what I had to say to him. I assumed since I asked him if I could talk to him that it would be in a more secluded area. Anyway, I asked that another assistant work with my daughter which the Dr. complied with. Just seems like such an unfriendly office (with the expection of the receptionist-always very pleasant.) compared to my daughters regular dentist, Dr. Wong, a pediatric dentist, which I highly recommend; my husband & my own dentist, Dr. Doran, whom I also highly recommend. Maybe I just got lucky with these other personable dentists. And they seem like they actually care-unlike Dr. Shimizu's office.
