El Amigo offers tasty Mexican food in a cheerful and festiveenvironment. My favorite dishes are the chicken chimichangas and the beef flautas. The beef flautas are small rolled up tortillas stuffed with beef and then deep fried. Greasy and fattening but also delcious! The food can be smothered with guacamole and sour cream so I always ask the waitress to put these condiments on the side for me. Main entrees are served with rice and beans and fresh tortillas if you ask for them. Favorite appetizers of mine include the cocktail de camaroon, which is a shrimp cocktail with huge prawns and sliced avocados is a light tomato juice. My husband prefers the cocido, which is a beef and vegetable soup with chunks of corn and cabbage. Dessert is always fambayed bananas with vanilla bean ice cream topped with caramel sauce.
El Amigo offers a great brunch with roving mariachis and fresh breakfast foods and juices. Their Mother's Day brunch is really popular with local residents so go early if you want a decent table. The staff is very friendly and the owner takes the time to walk around table to table to greet customers and ask if they need anything.
PROS: Friendly service, large portions
CONS: Very busy on weekends and around brunch time.
