Everything here has a red tint to it. The floors though are not really red. It has a hardwood similar to a red tint more like vermilion. The walls has drapes that are red. Food here is good but very expensive. Worth a try the first time to impress a date.

This is a cool little bar in San Francisco. Their lighting is nicely dim and red, and they serve delicious drinks as well as the usual standards. Try Rebecca's Rum Runner- it's a favorite of mine when I'm in town!

This place speaks for it self. It doesn't get any better with service, ambiance and crowd. One of many places to visit thru the course of ladies night out.

Pros: classy

.

the bar was so small and crowded that i felt like i was cloistered in a bathroom with 80 other boring people. plus, the red veers too close to being a gimmick, and as with all gimmicks, a taste is all i needed -- i don't think i'll be going back again.

After going to different bars Saturday night and getting these tiny little martini glasses, we found Red Room. Boy were we glad, they had ENORMOUS martini glasses and the drinks were made perfectly. The place was packed, so much so that my friend got a drink spilled all over her. It was slightly meat-market-esque but amusing to watch just the same. We had a great time and had a great $9 Belvedere martini!

I went there a couple weeks ago on a sat. night. It is not a large bar but packs em in like it has room to spare. Standing was the only option for most of the patrons. The bar tenders were kept busy but managed remain friendly. The crowd was diverse and dressed up. Drink prices were on the high side. I had a good time but mostly cause i was drunk. I think it would have been a let down otherwise due to the non-interactive crowd that gathered there. For a place that keeps you almost within arms reach of everyone else in the place you would think more people would be talking to one another than just sticking to the crew they came with.

Pros: Lots of people, No cover, Good bartenders

Cons: Can't move or sit, Crowd atmosphere, Drink Prices

The word is out. Used to be a good place to hang and get a little sneaky sneak on. Now, since everyone seems to come to the city and check citysearch first, it has moved down the list as the first place to go. No longer the locals scene it used to be, and the PC way to put it being "no longer my type of crowd". still a good place to get a great martini, and the bartenders are some of the best.

Not a place for dates - ok for groups. We had a great time catching up and drinking, but it was definitely not the hottest "singles scene" nor a romantic spot. I like the mellow red interior and selection of music, but I wouldn't go for the scene.

The Red Room used to be cool, but now that they've tasted a little success, they think they can they give you attitude and serve you overpriced watered down drinks. Don't waste your time or hard-earned cash here - there are plenty of other cool dives in Lower Nob Hill.

Great atmosphere, with music to match. Trendy and hip, this place is a winner time and time again. Highly recommended.

Romantic, surely you must jest! The place is simply a meat market. Sure the room is beautiful but the atmoshpere negates the beauty.

OK, so I went to the RR for the first time about eight years ago. At that time it was a hot spot. Lots of people raved about it. I didn't share their enthusiasm. I thought the service was atrocious, the drinks were over priced and bad tasting, the security guys were rude and only catered to the guys who slipped them a $50...... the crowd was the only thing that was half way decent (then)
Fast forward a few years.. the same as above only the crowd was TRYING to be pretentious and they had poor fashion sense.

Pros: the red makes it cozy, no cover

Cons: see above

Though it's got the superficial flash, it's a decent good bar. I like how it's small, though if it did get crowded, I can see how it can be annoying. Both times I went, though, there were probably 15 people max. Bartender took a long time bc she was chatting, but she apologized and was very warm - and made STRONG drinks. I had a good time.

As anyone who decorates a bar should know, red is the most flattering color to the human skin. Red hides any unsightly blemishes and creates a warm, mysterious glow. Any bar that is this red already has a lot going for it. Add to that the fact that it's connected to the Commodore Hotel -- part of the Joie de Vivre chain, a great place to stay in the city -- and the location can't be beat. It's a great place to start a night or to end one if you're staying upstairs. The drinks are potent and the bartenders friendly. Get there early and grab one of the prized seats.
