I did not like this place
by Ofelia O.
I have the El Cholo Cookbook and since I moved back to Los Angeles I wanted to go there. Well, I finaly did. The food portion was HUGE and tasted really bad. The place smells bad as well.

Beyond the festive atmosphere there is nothing great about this place. Overpriced food that is very Americanized. The parking is impossible and valet is expensive. I had the tamales and guacamole- way too bland to be called Mexican.

My Favorite Mexican Food on the planet
by Jenni M.
I Love El Chollo! They have fabulous mexican food, the portions are the perfect size. We always start with strong margaritas, and chips with guacamole. It's a fun atmosphere. They also have outside dining with heater lamps.
PROS: great food
CONS: limited parking, and sometimes a little loud

El Cholo
by Kathy M.
This is a lively Mexican restaurant with a fun fairly large bar area. The wait is usually long, but it is worth the wait--especially with a margarita. The restaurant is pretty large, with two levels but still always crowded.
The guacamole is a must and even the chips and salsa are delicious. The menu itself isn't as comprehensive as some other restaurants, but the food is very good. The enchiladas suizas are excellent.
There is one table that is directly in front of the kitchen, but if you're fortunate enough to get that table, you get a order of free cheese nachos.
PROS: margaritas and enchiladas
CONS: can be a long wait for a table

This restaurant has great food, a great atmosphere and a traditional charm to it. It tends to get crowded, especially on the weekends but it's a great place to take the kids to. They can accommodate large parties too. There are other El Cholo restaurants in Los Angeles and Pasadena that are just as good.
