I brought my mother and boyfriend here two days before Christmas when "movie night" was happening in the garden. Wow, what a terrific experience. I almost didn't go because it's up on a hill and I am a little scared of driving up hills, but my boyfriend drove and the ride up was not bad at all. You wind around and around the hill going up a grade, and when you get to the top the view is fantastic. We sat in the garden but next time I want a table inside overlooking the entire city. And the food! Homemade strawberry filled donuts, yum!!!! We decided to make this a Christmas tradition and come here every year.

TAKE A DATE HERE AFTER THE MOVIE. Don't sit in one of the tables by the window but in the courtyard around the Japanese Garden. The Courtyard makes you feel like you're an expat living in Japan...in 1928! Sitting around the garden, listening to the fountain, drinking hot sake, conversation just starts rolling. This is a great, great spot, but enjoy the views when you walk up the restaurant. Sit in the courtyard--actually DON'T so there's a seat for me.

Yamashiro is located in the Hollywood hills just above the Chinese Theater. It is a traditional Japanese style building with beautiful grounds and sweeping views of Los Angeles. The food was good enough, I'm sure there are better places for Sushi and Japanese in LA but not many places so pretty. Valet parking is available.

It sits on top of a hill with a fantastic view of the city. It's an old Japanese style building & gardens that is fun to explore. The food is ok to good and more than a little pricey. I go once every year or two when I am showing someone new around town.

Really hard to see view b/c valley parking. The setting was dark. Food: wafflewithsyrp/teriyakichicken/colseslaw. Random meal! I was pissed PRICEY.. but I guess i enjoyed my firends company. It wasn't the best place for college students who wanted a nice and fun dinner to go. Even the garden outside was really hard to enjoy b/c it's very narrow
PROS: sweet, quiet, segregated
CONS: bad service, too dark, no water refils

The view at twilight or after dark is spectacular and quite romantic. The place is beautiful and lushly landscaped. The food and service are excellent and the decor inside is just as breathtaking as outdoors. The prices are good for what you get. The only thing I don't like is they only have vallet parking.

A recent Sunday evening at Yamashiro convinced me that this place has changed! I used to just come for drinks and leave (after fighting the crowds )... now! sunday evening proved to be quiet and we were given the full attention of our waiter. We sat in the bar, thinking we'd only have drinks, but after being served an excellent martini, we decided to have a bite to eat. The oyster shooter was on special. It was served in a cordial glass with a mixture of sake, soy sauce, green onions and several other ingrediants. Although the liquid was delicious, it was too much and I ended up with a mouthful of sauce, and no oyster! However, once I was able to get the oyster out of the glass, it was fantastic!
We then decided to have a bit of sushi. We choose some excellent salmon, tuna and makeral, and became more convinced that we should try an entree. I wanted a glass of wine, but wasn't sure which I wanted, and our waiter graciously brought me a taste so I could choose.
We shared the Nori Crusted Tuna, and were knocked out byt the freshness of the fish! The very light sauce under it was just enough to accent the raw tuna.
It was an expensive evening, but I feel like it was totally worth it! I would go again, in fact, maybe even next Sunday!

Yamashiro is one of the most romantic restaurant's in Los Angeles. The view is absolutley breath taking. The food and the decor is very modern and asian influenced.

"The security guys have NO clue about crowd control. Standing in line ..."
