George's at the Cove recently unveiled its all-new $2.7 million upscale contemporary restaurant in La Jolla. Featuring Chef/Partner Trey Foshee's characteristically California cuisine, GEORGES CALIFORNIA MODERN reflects a distinct sensitivity to design and offers guests the flexibility to reserve a table or find an impromptu spot in the Modern Bar, a prominent feature in the new space. No matter where you?re seated, you?ll find the ambiance sophisticated yet relaxed, with a transparent energy that reflects the Southern California way of life. Multiple configurations that can accommodate groups from 18 to 193 also make the restaurant ideal for group and private events.
The view is enough to fill you up! Most seating in the upper part of this restaurant acquires full view to the entire cove, beaches, and sea. It's definitely something to see!
Yet watch out for the angry prices! Something so simple as a salad is beyond okay for price range; I'm shocked that George's has not gone out of business for their extreme prices!

great view. Love the ocean, decent prices. Different levels of dining for different budgets. Only downside is occaisional wait for the ocean terrace level. However, they give you a beeper and you can walk around la jolla which is always fun.

You have to like it...
1. Beautiful ocean view
2. Excellent service
3. Very delicious food
4. I love the atmosphere
5. Totally a flexible place - bring a date or family/friends to impress. :)
You have to book it in advance. Just a day before is okay. Otherwise, you may be waiting up to 2 hours for a seat for two.

Still the best view any restaurant could have. Overlook La Jolla Cove while dining on incredible, and unique dishes. The view is excellent, but the food is also.

A lot of restaurants have come and gone but Georges still remains the king, as far as I am concerned. It remains our go-to place for out of town visitors, as well as when we are looking for a well prepared meal. For those who have not been, the restaurant overlooks the ocean, it is right up against it in La Jolla. Check it out!

I also took my girlfriend to a dinner at Georges. The service was exceptional and the food was terrific. The menu is a bit pricey but definately worth it.

This restaurant is very upscale and the atmosphere is awesome. I brought a date here once; it is a very good place for a date. The balcony overlooks the shores, and the seafood is top notch. I ordered salmon which was juicy and tender. The prices are high but totally worth it.

If you're looking for a great place to bring a date, this is it. Request a seat on the balcony to get an amazing view of la jolla shores as you enjoy your fresh seafood catch. During the weekends and nights I recommend making reservations though since it does get extremely busy and the wait could be awhile.

Their Ocean Terrace is simply beautiful'; you can enjoy a reasonably-priced meal (probably $16-22) with the surf crashing next to you. Every seat has a great view of the ocean; it does get very crowded so be sure to make reservations ahead of time-- I did it online at opentable.com. The halibut with a cherry tomato vinagrette was fantastic; the chicken breast was a little on the dry side but still good. The great view and al fresco dining makes you want to come back again and again.

Great for a Fancy Night out
By laylabee
I've only been to George's at the Cove twice- once on a date and once when my parents took me but both times
were a positive experience.
It's located in a great spot near the ocean and the service is excellent.
Pros: I love the views and food Cons: It's expensive

GREAT LUNCH VIEW
By theriches
The view from the open terrace is amazing during the day, so bright and airy. It was very noisy and I don't even know if there was music playing at all. The service was good, the bussers kept our water very full all the time. My friend had the burger w/ aged cheddar and bacon- which was excellent and worth every penny. I had the 'most popular dish' I was told- the fig mustard, ham, and arugala panini. It was okay. The figs were so sweet and syrupy that was all one could taste, and no taste of mustard was to be found if there was supposed to be. The side salad and the fries were also great. they promptly brought us our check when ready.
Pros: BURGER, VIEW Cons: NOISY, PARKING

Excellent Seafood
By epv
I had a lovely meal at George's California Modern last Friday. Haven't been there since they remodeled and I was pleasantly surprsed how modern, young & non-stuffy it felt. I had been there prior and the food was excellent, but the atmosphere felt too stuffy. NO MORE! The great bar in the bottom level was very cool. Creative & unique cocktails! Our dinner was beautifully prepared (we had the swordfish, albacore & seafood stew) and tasted excellent. The service was top notch too! Highly recommended for locals & a great place to take your out of town guest. Especially for lunch at the top level of Georges which has such an amazing view.
Enjoy!
I was disapointed. Good, but it does not live up the hype.

Ok, I understand that George's is an impressive restaurant. Creative, innovative, amazing, whatever. It's nice but not one of the best. As a foodie ,we enjoyed 5 great nights of dining in the SD area but I would rate George's at the bottom of the list of what we had. The food was fresh, beautifully presented with impeccable service all in a beautiful setting. But, it just didn't do it for me, it tasted, well, ok. Our group ordered the tasting menu because our waiter did a great job selling it. Skip it. It's items off the menu, instead pick what you want and move on. It's also very expensive, over $600 plus tip for 4 people.
Pros: View, good wine list and great service. Cons: The food is OK where it should be amazing. Expensive, $150pp +.

Incredibly disappointing!
By knbarron
I went to George's California Modern for a special occasion with family expecting to have a terrific dining experience. I was really looking forward to showing my family what I believed to be one of the top restaurants in San Diego. We started off with mixed drinks that were good and fairly creative but nothing earth-shaking. From there the meal got progressively worse--out of three salads, one was good, one mediocre, and one down-right bad. They were even less successful with the entrees. Of the four entrees (one pork, two fish, and one vegetarian), three were salted to the point of inedibility. I certainly consider myself a salt lover and often add salt to my food but these dishes were so salty that they actually burned one's mouth and literally could not be eaten. Even beyond the extreme saltiness there dishes as a whole were simply unimpressive. The descriptions sounded creative, fresh, and interesting but nearly every entree disappointed. What was described as a delicous sole dish ended up being a poorly cooked, pan fried piece of sole, atop some greens and potatoes that tasted like licking a salt block, and covered in a pathetic hollandaise sauce. Not only did the dish lack any hint of creativity but it was executed terribly at that. It was all really quite bad and uncreative. Overall...a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!
