The whole experience was breathtaking. The desserts were the best in my opinion and I will go back on that simple merit.

There's a reason why they were ranked best of City Search, its apparent in the desserts. I day dream about there mouth watering carrot cake.

We love George's. I think the menu is perfect and the view sublime. Some times a member of the staff is pretentious; but for the most part they are cool.

Made reservations here on opentable this week for Mother's Day up in the Ocean Terrace dining.\r\n\r\nMy boyfriend and I tried to stop in this place last year but the wait was to long so it has been on my bookmark ever since. It was worth the wait!\r\n\r\nMenu is limited... not a lot of choices very concise. There are 3 Restaurants here so do your research before deciding each are very nice but only the Terrace has the FANTASTIC outside open view. We went today Mother's Day and we sat right at a 4 top near the clear railings. Our server was Cynthia she was very attentive, friendly and just AWESOME!\r\n\r\nWe started with drinks and a appetizer of Chips and Salsa (asked for a side of Guacamole) they bring out a ""thistle"" full of Guac so don't get your hopes up =/ Little Bit (my 20 year old daughter) ordered Eggs Benedict with a Meyer Lemon Hollandaise Sauce, Virg - the Famous Fish Tacos, Mo - Eggplant Panini and myself - Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Little Bit moaned throughout her meal so that is the first indication that this dish was THE BOMB-SKITTY!! All plates were pretty but I don't think anyone enjoyed their meal as much as Little Bit did :) the rest of the table was pleased but not as enthusiastic as my daughter. Virg and I both had Blood Orange Margaritas they were meh nothing spectacular... NEXT UP Blood Orange Mimosa (I had to request that they make this concotion as it is not on the menu) MOST delicious and refreshing I downed that bad boy and ordered Uno Mas! :) BTW it was cold today but the heaters worked really well.\r\n\r\nOur dessert was... (drum roll please) Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake GOOOOODDDD LAAAAAAWWWWRRRDD!!! that is crack in a medium sized shot glass is what THIS IS!!! topped with Bananas and sweetened mascarpone we also ordered the Berry Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream but all 4 of us were fighting over that Toffee Pudding Cake... my only comment is Carmelized those Bananas and you would make guests toes CURL!!! \r\n\r\nWe never felt rushed either by the way which says A LOT for a restaurant on Mother's Day granted we were there @ 10:15am in the morning before the rush began but still it was nice to just sit there and catch up with our daughters. We parked in a parking structure next door... WHY WAS IT $10.00!!?? WTH? Anyhoo with so many choices for a beautiful view to eat in La Jolla I have to say that I was quite pleased with this selection and highly recommend it if you are in the area but MAKE RESERVATIONS in advance.\r\n\r\nRespectfully Reviewed \r\n\r\n

Had two very good lunches at George's. The first during the week, so seating was not an issue. The seond on a late Saturday afternoon and the wait after being told 45 minutes turned into 1&1/2hrs.. Don't ask why I stayed, cause I don't have a good answer. Anyway, the place is a bit snooty and yes expensive, but we still enjoyed it UNTIL....we returned for their advertised Happy Hour. Let me tell you, this is an insult and one of the worst Happy Hours I've ever experienced. A very limited menu and forget the seating on the ""balcony"" because they won't let you sit there unless you are ordering dinner, never mind we arrived early at 3PM and the place was empty. Now tell me this going in and I don't have a problem, but advertise otherwise and I do. Lost me as a customer, not that they probably care.

I LOVE this place! You can get a drink on the roof & the fish tacos are amazing! Or you can have a special evening on the first floor with incredible food & service. Plan to spend some money, but its well worth it! If you can get there for a sunset it makes it even better!

George's is the perfect spot for late summer dinner in La Jolla. Sitting on the upper deck, you have a bird's eye view of the Pacific coast. Try the mussels for an appetizer -- excellent. The spaghetti with clams was great for dinner. \n\nIf you're in La Jolla and in the mood to splurge a bit, George's is the perfect spot.

I've only been to George's at the Cove twice- once on a date and once when my parents took me but both times\r\nwere a positive experience.\r\n\r\nIt's located in a great spot near the ocean and the service is excellent.

I like George's at the Cove but it's pretty expensive.

It's definitely a "special occasion" type of place. The food is great, the service is great and if you get the right table there are awesome views.

Reserve in advance on holidays like Valentine's Day.

Just ate here recently and I think it's gotten even better- I'm updating to 5 stars.

The view is enough to fill you up! Most seating in the upper part of this restaurant acquires full view to the entire cove, beaches, and sea. It's definitely something to see!
Yet watch out for the angry prices! Something so simple as a salad is beyond okay for price range; I'm shocked that George's has not gone out of business for their extreme prices!

great view. Love the ocean, decent prices. Different levels of dining for different budgets. Only downside is occaisional wait for the ocean terrace level. However, they give you a beeper and you can walk around la jolla which is always fun.

You have to like it...
1. Beautiful ocean view
2. Excellent service
3. Very delicious food
4. I love the atmosphere
5. Totally a flexible place - bring a date or family/friends to impress. :)
You have to book it in advance. Just a day before is okay. Otherwise, you may be waiting up to 2 hours for a seat for two.

A lot of restaurants have come and gone but Georges still remains the king, as far as I am concerned. It remains our go-to place for out of town visitors, as well as when we are looking for a well prepared meal. For those who have not been, the restaurant overlooks the ocean, it is right up against it in La Jolla. Check it out!

The view from the open terrace is amazing during the day, so bright and airy. It was very noisy and I don't even know if there was music playing at all. The service was good, the bussers kept our water very full all the time. My friend had the burger w/ aged cheddar and bacon- which was excellent and worth every penny. I had the 'most popular dish' I was told- the fig mustard, ham, and arugala panini. It was okay. The figs were so sweet and syrupy that was all one could taste, and no taste of mustard was to be found if there was supposed to be. The side salad and the fries were also great. they promptly brought us our check when ready.

I had a lovely meal at George's California Modern last Friday. Haven't been there since they remodeled and I was pleasantly surprsed how modern, young & non-stuffy it felt. I had been there prior and the food was excellent, but the atmosphere felt too stuffy. NO MORE! The great bar in the bottom level was very cool. Creative & unique cocktails! Our dinner was beautifully prepared (we had the swordfish, albacore & seafood stew) and tasted excellent. The service was top notch too! Highly recommended for locals & a great place to take your out of town guest. Especially for lunch at the top level of Georges which has such an amazing view.\r\nEnjoy!

Ok, I understand that George's is an impressive restaurant. Creative, innovative, amazing, whatever. It's nice but not one of the best. As a foodie ,we enjoyed 5 great nights of dining in the SD area but I would rate George's at the bottom of the list of what we had. The food was fresh, beautifully presented with impeccable service all in a beautiful setting. But, it just didn't do it for me, it tasted, well, ok. Our group ordered the tasting menu because our waiter did a great job selling it. Skip it. It's items off the menu, instead pick what you want and move on. It's also very expensive, over $600 plus tip for 4 people.

George's is awesome - The food is amazing (but not over-priced), the specialty mixed drinks at each of the bars are outstanding (they have an on-site mixologist that creates interesting, seasonal drinks with fresh fruits), the atmosphere is fun and inviting, and the view is spectacular (especially at sunset). Great date (or anytime) place!

I went to George's California Modern for a special occasion with family expecting to have a terrific dining experience. I was really looking forward to showing my family what I believed to be one of the top restaurants in San Diego. We started off with mixed drinks that were good and fairly creative but nothing earth-shaking. From there the meal got progressively worse--out of three salads, one was good, one mediocre, and one down-right bad. They were even less successful with the entrees. Of the four entrees (one pork, two fish, and one vegetarian), three were salted to the point of inedibility. I certainly consider myself a salt lover and often add salt to my food but these dishes were so salty that they actually burned one's mouth and literally could not be eaten. Even beyond the extreme saltiness there dishes as a whole were simply unimpressive. The descriptions sounded creative, fresh, and interesting but nearly every entree disappointed. What was described as a delicous sole dish ended up being a poorly cooked, pan fried piece of sole, atop some greens and potatoes that tasted like licking a salt block, and covered in a pathetic hollandaise sauce. Not only did the dish lack any hint of creativity but it was executed terribly at that. It was all really quite bad and uncreative. Overall...a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

It is an understatement to say that I love George's Upstairs, and it is for one reason only: Their turkey, broccoli, black bean soup. It is literally the best thing I have ever consumed in my life, and on more than one ocassion I have skipped the entree entirely and just gotten more soup. I think I'va had the pork chop and something else before as a main, but I can't even remember them because my soup is clouding my memory. If you're visiting La Jolla, the views are absolutely incredible, and what better way to enjoy them than with a hot bowl of the world's best soup?

Pros: The soup, obviously. The views, the other food is good too!

Cons: Parking, there's usually a wait, and the downstairs portion is a whole different place: classier and way pricier. Make sure you know where you're supposed to be going!

During the summer you can't beat the Ocean Terrace for a lovely lunch or sunset dinner. The food is wonderful and a great value for what they serve. The specialty drinks are pretty good and the wine pours are generous. The view can't be beat and with great food George's Ocean Terrace isn't missing anything that makes a great dining experience.

I've only been here once for lunch up on the patio area and it was superb. It definitely left a lasting impression on me. I wish to try the place out for dinner but the restaurant is a bit far from where I live. We only went there in passing to San Diego.\r\nThe service was great and the food we ordered was good. This restaurant is very upscale and the atmosphere is awesome. I brought a date here once; it is a very good place for a date. The balcony overlooks the shores, and the seafood is top notch. I ordered salmon which was juicy and tender. The prices are high but totally worth it.

If you're looking for a great place to bring a date, this is it. Request a seat on the balcony to get an amazing view of la jolla shores as you enjoy your fresh seafood catch. During the weekends and nights I recommend making reservations though since it does get extremely busy and the wait could be awhile.

Their Ocean Terrace is simply beautiful'; you can enjoy a reasonably-priced meal (probably $16-22) with the surf crashing next to you. Every seat has a great view of the ocean; it does get very crowded so be sure to make reservations ahead of time-- I did it online at opentable.com. The halibut with a cherry tomato vinagrette was fantastic; the chicken breast was a little on the dry side but still good. The great view and al fresco dining makes you want to come back again and again.
