Pros: great services, fulffy naan

Cons: none

There was no soup course. The Raita was tasteless. There were none of the condiment sauces you use to flavor Indian dishes. There was one piece of tandoor chicken on the buffet table. The daal was thin like soup, tasteless and at room temperature. There wasn't a lamb dish on the buffet table. The only chicken dish was a "chicken makhani" - tough, tasteless. The saag paneer had no paneer. I told the waiter. The kitchen said there wasnt any.

Mehak, which means "aroma", has been serving delicious Punjabi-style Indian dishes for several years. Mehak is located across the street from the obscenely popular and over-rated "Breads of India", a couple of doors down from the "Homemade Cafe", near Dwight Way on Sacramento Street.

Mehak doesnt look like much from the outside (or on the inside for that matter) - but dont let that fool you. Next time the line for the Breads of India look daunting, give Mehak a try. The staff are usually friendly, and theres usually room to sit down without a wait.

The food is more of a traditional Punjabi Indian menu - and they do have some south Indian Specialties. I really recommend the Lamb Vindalu and the Chicken Tika Masalla.
I also suggest the Punjabi Lamb Curry, Aloo Gobi, and Chicken Vindaloo. As a person that likes spicy curry - I suggest you order medium, not hot. The Garlic Naan is great too.

Unfortunately they dont sell alchoholic beverages, (and the corner liquor store next door just lost their license), but they do have some NA beers that go great with Indian food.

The biggest drawback to Mehak is the ambience. They really need to paint the place, remodel the restroom, and get some new wall hangings or something. Its not elegant. As someone who travelled for a month in India, I can tell you this is "authentic".

If you don't like eating in an "authentic" Indian restaurant, and want to get your food to go, fear not. They will cook your food for carry out. They recently started offering a home delivery service, though I havent tried it yet.

I suggest taking home a carryout menu, and calling it in first. Even if you walk in, the wait is not long. Just order and walk around the block it will be ready.

Although the restaurant needs a extreme-makeover, the food is really good. But watch out - the servings are huge.

PROS: Great Indian Food, Large Portions, Reasonable Prices, Carry-out, Delivery
CONS: Complete lack of Ambience - No beer of wine, but they do offer NA beer.
