This vet (Dr. Jerry Citek) doesn't deserve even a star, he deserves a cup of hot coffee thrown in his face. He doesn't care about animals, he want's your money. His receptionist who told me she graduated from CSULB clearly hates her job and mentioned to me as we were making small talk that she loathes working with animals.
This idiot (Citek) couldn't figure out over the course of four months that my dog had multiple tumors. I literally outlined on a typed piece of paper the progression of my dog's illness and symptoms so that this guy could give a proper diagnosis and suggestions for treatment, where I noted all medications my dog had taken over time, his eating habits, his daily routine, his pain, and all his symptoms. He started with some crap that my dog might have a thyroid problem.
After investing hundreds of dollars of my own money on useless antibiotics in an effort to help my dog (and I was a second year college student working for every last dollar, so that hurt), this idiot tells me he doesn't know what's wrong and wants to order more tests. Only a few days later I had to take my poor baby to be put to sleep. He had been suffering for months, and I couldn't stand to see him screaming in pain another night.
I took my puppy to a different private office to be put to sleep. The vet at this new office was IMMEDIATELY able to confirm that my dog had multiple tumors in his stomach and anal sacs and was very sore from the stupid fecal exams this dumb*ss Citek kept ordering, and that he was so bad off that he likely wouldn't wake up from a surgery at that stage. Had he been diagnosed months earlier, he might have lived. I also want to note that the staff at this second office was extremely helpful, nice, clearly devoted to animals, and even comforting. This happened one year ago.
The guilt of knowing that I could have tried a different vet earlier still kills me to this day. My poor baby dog.... Seriously, don't go to this office, and don't be fooled by the certificates in the lobby. The Dr. knows NOTHING, and your pet will die under his care.
And on a side note, the Dr. Citek is curt, cynical, and rude to his own staff. Just think about what you want for your pet and yourself. This is just me sincerely reaching out to any animal lover reading.
Dr. Gerry is a great vet! he cares for animals and he gives you alot of information, he's never in a hurry to move on to his next patient like other vets, he is very professional, we definitely need more vets like Dr. Gerry. He saved my 6mo puppies life, I took my pup to 'Banfield' (suppost to be one of the best dog hospitals) and I was told he had to be put down, there was absolutely nothing they can do for a severe head trauma. I was in shocked, my pup worsen the next to two day I decided to take him to Dr. Gerry to put him down since he was the one that gave him his puppy shots. Dr. Gerry said that there was almost no hope but that he can try with some shots to help with his head injury, its been four days now and my puppy is doing alot better. Dr. Gerry is still looking after him. I will always be greatful to Dr. Gerry he's beyond the best. 'Banfield hospital' almost killed my dog!
Take your beloved pet elsewhere! Even the Better Business Bureau rates this place with a "D", stating that they caution you to do business with them.
Went here to take my mom's cat for follow up visit as he was healing from a bad abscess on his head. The vet and staff have unsanitary practices in that they handled my cat with no gloves and the facility itself is FILTHY (i.e. examination room smelled of urine and not once did I witness anyone clean or sanitize the examination tables before or after they were used). The way the staff treated my cat was unprofessional and I feel bad for having taken him there (i.e. used their feet to keep cat from leaving the weighing table). The worst was the Vet - Dr. Gerry, who showed no genuine sympathy for my cat's suffering. As I said, my cat was recovering from a bad abscess on his head. Took him twice because his wound was not healing and my cat was making a lot of noise like he was in pain, not eating, lethargic, etc. Dr. Gerry comes into the room with scissors in his hand and without explaining what he was gonna do, he just starts to slice at my cat's open sore, causing him to scream as he was already in a lot of pain. He first said that the cat felt NO PAIN when he did this, but quickly took back his statement when I voiced my opinion that he was clearly hurting my cat as what he did would hurt anyone!
Im also deeply concerned about the way they clean up after their animal patients. I saw blood gush out from my cat to spill onto the examination table and floor. In shock I saw the vet tech clean up the mess with the same towel he used on my cat for warm compression. No antibacterial or sanitizing spray was used. It worries me that another animal was seen right after and put on that same table because bacteria and infections are easily spread, potentially harming other animals.
Take your cat somewhere else. My mom learned this the hard way. She took her cat here because it was close to home and did not check reviews prior.
I love this Vet! I can take my animals to about 20 other Vets who are 20 miles closer to me, but I go to Above and Beyond simply because I feel they live up to their name!! Dr. Gerry Citek is one of those people who are in their profession for all the right reasons. Being in the animal care business, and taxi-ing animals to their respective Vets, I have come to know a lot of DVMs who are either burned out, arrogant, and usually both. I have had bad experiences with botched spay surgeries (which is supposed to be a fairly easy procedure for Vets). Dr. Citek and his great staff do fantastic work! Add to that a good dose of compassion...and prices that cannot be beat...I think that about covers it!
Above and Beyond Pet Clinic is tucked in so you have to really watch for it. The office was small yet comfortable. The entire staff was really nice and seemed to really care about the pets coming in. I took my dog to get neutered, I am not sure which one of us was more nervous. They did a great job at reassuring both of us and my dog acted like nothing happened while I was gone. I take all my pets here now.
I filed a complaint with the Veterinary Medical Board with the State of California Consumer Affairs to report the unsanitary practices by vet and staff and also the filthy condition of the facility. I brought in my 14 yr old cat recovering from a really bad abscess on his head. The vet "Dr. Gerry" did not use gloves when he handled my pet and was rough in treating him. It's disheartening to know that people like him who do not genuninely care about animals are in the field he is in. At one point, he took scissors and without any form of anesthesia to lessen the pain, he began to cut my cat's open swollen abscess in order to enlarge the wound. He kept telling me that the cat did not feel pain when he did this (as my cat hissed and moaned). He quickly retracted his statement when I spoke up and told him that he was hurting my cat! He then said, "oh yeah, that part does hurt the cat". I was also deeply concerned about the way they clean up after their animal patients. I witnessed blood gush out from my cat to spill onto the examination table and floor as he poked at his sore to drain his abscess. In shock, I saw the vet tech clean up the mess with the same dirty towel he used on my cat for warm compression. NO ANTIBACTERIAL OR SANITIZING SPRAY WAS EVER USED. It worries me that another animal was seen directly after and put on that same examination table as bacteria and infections are easily spread, therefore potentially harming other pets who are already there because they are sick.
Take your pet elsewhere....to someone who has more genuine sympathy for what your animal is going through and cleaner facilities.
To other pet owners who want to complain about this veterinary office, I urge you to make an official complaint to the Department of Consumer Affairs Veterinary Medical Board. Because if a complaint is not official, this Vet office will not change their ways.
Our pets deserve to have the same treatment we expect to receive when we go to our doctor's office.
Dr Citek is, in my opinion a person who loves his work...He is dedicated, practical, and very knowledgable. I have been going to Dr. Citek for about 20+ years and I have always had a pleasant experience (except of course when I had to euthanize my pets). All my animals have enjoyed healthy lives thanks to Dr. Citek and his staff. I reccommend him to all my friends!
Pros: evening hours and no appt needed
Cons: lack of parking
Over $200.00 later, still no results. I took my female into see the vet. She has been sick for 3 days. She can't control her bladder, started vomitting the 3rd day, and now #2 is watery and green from grass. My family believed it was a bladder infection. I took her in the assistant took a stool sample. Without the results of that another assistant came in and said the dr. recommends a urinary and bloodtest. UNDERSTANDABLE! and an XRAY! and antiboitics. It wil be $491.00. All I could say was no!. Luckily, my boyfriend was there (he is a little more reasonable) He asked don't you think we get the results for the Fical test first.?!?! Long story short we got the antibiotics, and they gave her 2 shots. Then they said I couldn't be there!!!! YEAH RIGHT! Iv'e had this dog from day 1!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I bred her) You not taking my dog to the back without me. The vet agreed I could be there then the assistant came in. It will be another $10.00. Why???FOr the room because you want to be here and we have a wait. (2 people in the waiting room) Mind you I waited in the waiting room for an hour but was only in the room for 20 minutes. I still don't know whats wrong with my dog and I refuse to have them take 10 million tests when he probably has an idea of what is going on. Im hoping the antibiotics help...she did stop vommitting and the #2 thing....if not I will be seeing another vet today.
