We enjoyed are meal, it was our first time there our server was polite and attentive. People at the restaurant did stare somewhat but I think its because they are ignorant to the fact that Latinos didn't belong there...HELLO its only Cali. The Down side we waited more than five minutes to be helped..hmmm but one of the servers came around even though it was not her table. Overall the food was very good and we enjoyed the ambiance. The prices are reasonable. We will definitely go there again and this time I'll stare back ;)

Clafoutis is very disappointing in terms of its customer service. It has a great location with sidewalk tables at Sunset Plaza. However, neither the food nor the location is worth the bad service.

I used to come here countless times when i was into the whole hollywood scene. Best place to grab dinner before hitting the bars/clubs. NOW,I really hate to do this, but I have no choice. Party of 4. Sat out in Patio and waited for about 10 minutes. No sign of waitress. 10 minutes later she comes and apologizes countless times for us waiting. We order drinks and some calamari, my girlfriend asks for her opinion on a wine and she doesnt know anything about the wine list so she recommends a very bitter glass of chardonnay. Then came the entree's I ordered a soup to start and the chopped steak. My friend orders the same and followed by 2 alfredos for the ladies. Calamari never comes out. Meals come out and she only put in one order of the chopped steak. After 15 minutes, I finally get my food and the chopped steak is pretty much a dry piece of hamburger meat. Only thing missing is the bun. She apologzed literally everytime she came to our table. She offered to comp dessert for us, so we ordered 2 pieces for the table. Finished dessert. Asked for the check, Guess what 2 "complimentary" desserts were charged. Something had to be wrong with that "Steak" ruined my whole night.

Pros: none

This place has the best atmosphere, I love sitting outside on the patio and peope watching. The food & service are always great!

Pros: food & atmosphere

I was in town last week from San Fran and went to check out this place because of the good reviews on Citysearch, and it did not dissapoint! I had the shrimp salad with advacado...it was so good. My friend had the linguini with sundried tomato's, and it was also very good. Sitting outside was really lovely, oh and I forgot to mention the bread, it is sooooooo good.

friendly french fusion on the sunset strip. great ambiance, great specials, great food and great service. free parking.

Pros: free parking, outside patio

March 03, 2009

Great watching people place on Sunset, food is good, service a little slow but it s always very busy, love the pastries there. Highly recommended

took my girl here for dinner, and was impressed with the nice wine selection as well as the food - and the location as people have mentioned is outstanding.

Pros: free parking

Cons: none

February 25, 2009

I like the ambiance at this place, I always order the black peppercorn chicken which is served on a bed of creamed spinache and topped with a unique and absolutely delicious sauce.
If you want to people watch or need your shopping fix on Sunset, stop here and eat lunch.

Espresso and deserts are wonderful too!

February 23, 2009

this place is a good place to have a nice lunch while people watching al fresco. but be sure to ask to be seated where you and your dining partner can sit side by side otherwise only one of you gets to people watch- and the other gets to watch someone people watch. it can get boring. the grilled shrimp salad is good, my husband usually gets a pasta dish...he has liked them all!

February 21, 2009

I had the crepes with nutella and banana. We sat on the patio - had a good time people watching.... we were going to go to le petit four but it was dead so we went here instead. I would come here again.

February 21, 2009

This is a great spot - major for me is that the parking is so easy unlike so many other places in LA. There is a free lot in the back of the restaurant, so you can enter from the lot and go up the stairs. I've seen celebs here quite a bit. The shops are really fun to browse in. I went for Happy Hour the other day, we sat on the patio. It was quite nice.

February 20, 2009

La Clafoutis has always been my choice before Le Petite Four next door. My friend was in town so I figured this is a perfect place to show her what a West Hollywood brunch is like.

They serve wonderful Mediterranean French Cuisine & certain dishes are just simple amazing. My friend absolutely loved it!

February 20, 2009

The fries here are so tasty! No, seriously, they are some of the best fries I"ve ever had!

This place, as others have mentioned in their reviews, is definitely not what you would expect for Hollywood. I found it to be cozy and comfortable. Our server was totally very good, he took our orders quick, food came out even faster and we never felt rushed.

February 16, 2009

This is a good spot for people watching, especially on a the weekends. A great place to have bruch, or just a mimosa. Definitely grab a seat outside on the patio.

February 13, 2009

This place - Le Clafoutis - don't think it's new, classic or famous -but it's damn good! It sits out on Sunset with a great patio full of patrons. The French Onion Soup was delish. The bread was perfect. My friend had the chicken marsala with pasta & it was excellent. I had a small request (yet somewhat reasonable since they serve eggs through the time in which I was dining). I ordered the Croque Monsieur & requested to make it a 'Madame' - they did & I ate every last bite. At first, I thought it was too small (I do like a lot of food), but every bite was perfect & filling & I practically licked the plate, but walked away full & satisfied. It was accompanied by - what I would call ,the best Shoe String Fries I've ever had!!

When we saw the dessert menu - we couldn't turn away. So we hung out... we enjoyed the scenery... and then we ordered two. First, the passion fruit coconut mousse. absolute perfection! I didn't want to share it. The second amazing concoction was a raspberry creamfFilled chewy rose cookie. OMG!

February 13, 2009

Mmmm, good breakfast. Not as pretentious as you might think from the name and the Sunset location.

Great outdoor dining. Perfect for people-watching and soaking up sun (nevermind the ozone layer). Ladies - and metro males - there are cute boutiques nearby for shopping... then again it is Sunset so that's obvious.

Service was good, atmosphere was clean and inviting, and prices are reasonable - well, I paid $17 for breakfast total with tip - so depends on your idea of reasonable, some might say it's cheap but when you can get comparable for $10 well then it's reasonable.

February 12, 2009

This place has been a favorite of mine for years, but I had not been in a while - went there for dinner the other night and was reminded of how nice it is.

February 11, 2009

I love coming here on the weekends for brunch, it's a great place for people watching, and the food is excellent! I also want to mention that the prices are pretty reasonable for LA standards. I heard that they started doing a Happy Hour which I am definitely going to check out.

A friend took me to Clafoutis on my first trip to Los Angeles, and ever since, it's been in my restaurant repertoire every time I visit. The servers are friendly (we always spend at least an hour or two there), and I highly recommend snagging a table on the sidewalk for some late lunching and people watching. Their seared tuna with mashed potatoes is super yummy, especially with a bottle of champagne and some dessert to top it off.

Pros: Free parking lot in the back; friendly service

December 14, 2008

I must admit, after reading the reviews, I was skeptical. But, this place proved every negative review out on the message board which led me to question the validity of their reviews. I presonally like this place much better than La Petit Four and will be going there every time I find myself in the area :) I am a definite repeat customer

Pros: Service, cost

Cons: it can be a bit of a horse and pony show with the cars and people watching

August 25, 2008

Good food, good service. Bottles of wine were not expensive. We were able to have a great dinner for two with bottle of wine for under $100. The people watching was great and we didnt have to wait for a patio table.

Pros: parking in back, people watching, price

July 25, 2008

food here is delicious.. always fresh, and comes to the table hot... deserts are not so bad either.. very clean and well kept.. great service... def would recommend..

I am a regular here, my gf and I both love the food and the people. In defense of the waitress who emphasized that tips were not included, it was not a question of racism so much as a reflection of the usual clientele. There are a large number of Europeans who eat here, mainly French, and in Europe service is always included in the bill. If they don't remind them they will get stiffed.

I find the food excellent and the prices reasonable considering the location. The duck is always very good and the ribeye is wonderful. Any of the desserts (freshly made on the premises) is worth the calories.

November 26, 2007

The reason this place is so popular is because 1) followers think they 'should' eat here cos it's on Sunset Plaza so that makes them feel important 2) rich bald men (or young hotshots) just want to show off their fancy car if they can find a parking spot out front and 3) it really does offer some great people-watching. The restaurant is named after the French dessert, but i've never even had it here. The food -- LIKE ALL THE PLACES ON SUNSET PLAZA -- is pretty substandard in the same vein that I find Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Chili's substandard. It's like a glorified Mimi's Cafe or something. So yes, it's great for ogling people ogling other people, but beyond that, not much below the surface.

Pros: The human comedy

Cons: The human tragedy

January 29, 2007

The meal was fine and the service OK until the bill came. That's when things went sour.

For some reason, the waitress felt that it was necessary to UNDERLINE and CIRCLE MULTIPLE TIMES the blurb on the bill that states "GRATUITY IS NOT INCLUDED". It seems the myth that black people do not tip is alive and well in this restaurant. We respectfully brought it to the attention of the waitress and manager that this sort of action was unacceptable and unprofessional. Of course, the waitress denied that her decision was discriminatroy and said that she does this on ALL her bills. The manager, whom I'm most disappointed in, said nothing if you can believe it.

All this leads me to conclude that this is an establishment that thinks that it is OK to discriminate against people who are deemed not to be tippers. It was a good evening spoiled, and I hope Clafoutis never does this sort of thing to another customer.

ps
We left a big tip for the service we received up until we were disrespected.

November 22, 2006

The food is better here than down the block at Petit Four. But all else is the same, crowded patio, people who go there to be seen and heard. If you want to watch the beautiful people and the rolls royces and ferrari's passing by, this is the place for you.

Pros: Probably the best food in the Sunset Plaza area

October 05, 2006

I usually eat at the place next door because they have a seafood salad I love, but decided to give this place a try.

had the eggs benedict with salmon on Thurs lunch time. it came with a side salad and rich potato slices. Rich rich rich food. good thing the salad balanced it out. had a latte and the bill was $16 something.
service was great and friendly, but i did come at a off peak time. I'm coming back and will try the pasta next time.

Def come if you want some comfort food.

Pros: good service on weekday lunch

March 16, 2006

Everytime I am in the L.A. area I go for Breakfast, the French toast is amazing; service is fast and friendly. Lunch is also good, try the banana mousse for dessert. Sit outside for people watching and enjoying the weather.

Pros: great location, good service, BIG parking lot!

Cons: tables are too close

November 27, 2005

Few months ago I went to Clafoutis with my boyfrined, and the food was amazing. It has now become our usual spot. The waiters/waitresses are friendly and the owner even comes out from time to time and serves you himself. He is French and he is unexpectedly friendly. The food is cheaper than you would expect. There is both front patio facing Sunset Blvd and a back patio for more private sitting. My boyfriend and I had dinner and we each had desserts and and drinks and it cost as around $50. I better stop writing and go there for dinner... I am gettin hungry.

Pros: Good Food, Good Parking, Friendly

August 15, 2005

the food here is mediocre, the main thing that's good are the crab cakes. this place is nice if you like to hang out at sunset plaza and people watch. they've got great profiteroles and the coffee is good. it's nice becuase they're open late and you can hang out when most places have closed already.

August 28, 2004

I will not recomend this place unless they know that you are going to spend a lot of money. I went there to have dessert and nobody aknowledge me, so finally I walked out.

Pros: none, nothing, none

Cons: , greedy servers, careless staff

September 04, 2002

I tend to avoid Sunset, but this is worth the trip. The food is quite good, and the prices reasonable, but the service is outstanding.

Pros: great service, good food, good prices

Cons: on sunset

June 27, 2002

Friday night, my family and I had a late night dinner at Clafoutis. Even though the waitress had more tables than she could handle, the service was VERY GOOD AND FRIENDLY! The food was delish. I had the New York Steak and the side was french fries. The steak was tender and juicy. My husband and daughter had pasta, which were both very good. We sat in the outdoor/sidewalk patio area, which was a great place for people watching. Dinner for 3 and drinks our bill was under 100.00! We will definitely go to Clafoutis again.

Pros: Inexpensive, Free Parking
