Marina Montessori School is still around???

by shawna m.

I can't believe this school is still around. I ATTENDED this school 25 years ago! Based on the negative reviews, it is apparently still run by the same management, or owned by the same people (the Bomans) or has the same management style. In any case, here is what I remember about the school from when I was 5-6 years old. There was very sporadic supervision during the day. I remember some very inappropriate things happening because of that. Kids wandered around in "montessori" style from study group to study group. I learned very slowly because of this. I watched television for HOURS and the teachers were very laid back (back then it was he-man and shera). I remember a few of the teachers as being exceptionally creepy in ways I won't explain but also remember Lukey who was great. Starla Boman was such a brat and Mrs Boman taught me spanish colors and Candy Boman was an obnoxious barbie doll. LOL. This school was once a church before it got converted. My mom eventually took me out of the school and put me into a public school, where I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the structured curriculum and different social setting. I do not recommend montessori style for this reason and also think I have problems with studying to this very day because of how I started. In addition the social environment at Marina was extremely undisciplined. There you have it from somebody who lived it.

I was recommended this school by one of my co-workers. Her daughter had been attending for a year now and is very happy there. I went to check it out and fell in love with the facility. The teachers are great and as well as the kids. My son has been there now for six months and is doing extremely well. He gets along great with others and is learning so much. We recently decided to put him in full time because he just loved to go so much. I am very happy with the outcome so far and would recommend this school to anyone =)

Highly Recommend

by Dana M.

Two of my children are currently attending this school. They are extremely happy here and always look forward to going to school. My kids are doing extremely well in their academics due to the outstanding performance of their teachers. The teachers provide a lot of one on one which I believe is very important. My kids are above and beyond their grade levels due to the dedication and support of the staff. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone. I plan on leaving my children here as long as they will let me.

Great School

by sarah w.

My last child just graduated from Marina Montessori School after being the tenth relative attending. We started out with a two year old fifteen years ago and we liked the school so well, each of our siblings enrolled their children as soon as they were old enough to attend. When our cousins or other relatitves are old enough to go to school, they will surely go there. The teachers are so exceptionally nice, we consider them to be like family. Every once in a while we will go by just to say hello. My kids really enjoy stopping by and seeing their favorite teachers.

Marina Montessori School

by Carloyn W.

I love this school. My child attended another private school prior to attending this one. She was unhappy at her previous school so I decided to try another. She has been at Montessori for a year and a half now and loves it so much! I have never had a problem with her being dirty or treated unkindly. The teachers are so wonderful and are very kind to the students. I love that they are well supervised and are watched very carefully. Her academic progress has been outstanding thanks to her wonderful teachers. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this school to any parent or parents that want to be more than involved in their child's academics.

Unacceptable: Unqualified Staff, Verbal Abuse of Children

by Michelle P.

I did a spot check my child's first day - heard teacher yelling from across the street - mean, dirty, horrible, unaccountable organization. I approached the "supervisor" and was basically told the teacher's yelling was justified since another child hit a peer earlier that day. At pickup, my daughter was filthy (OK, it's a school), shoes on the wrong feet, dirty diaper, face full of dirt, in a room watching Rugrats - highly age-inappropriate and lazy of the teachers. No one used Montessori tools or teachings. Poorly trained staff and unaccountable staff. Would not recommend anyone going...

OK, but not great

by Anonymous

The staff seem friendly, but I agree with the first poster that supervision (and security) are low. My daughter didn't seem especially happy to go to preschool here. I was not happy that the kids are allowed to watch TV.

Not very good at all!!

by Anonymous

My kid came home filthy (didn't mind the cloths so much but to have a dirty face from lunch time and I'm picking my kid up at 3pm!! unacceptable),They weren't very observant and kids often were able to roam the premisses unsupervised. My kid didn't seem to be learning much of anything but how to play. Beautiful playground though.

Very Pleasing

by jknob0

The school is a great school. My child attends and is so happy there. The teachers are so pleasant and the classrooms are great! My daughter is always bringing home great artwork and papers. I have never had an issue with my child being dirty or shoes on the wrong feet. I disagree with the other comments. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a great place to enroll their child.

Pros: Safe, Secure, Environment
