Me and my family took a trip to Big Bear last year. The locals suggested we try Big Bear Mountain Resort, I don't recommend it for beginners ,most of the people who come here know what their doing I almost got knocked out a few times.

It is a tough drive to get to Snow Summit - windy mountain roads and you often need chains.

The skiing is pretty good with a good wide variety of green, blue, and black runs to ski on.

The problem is the snowboarders - these guys are out of control. Most of them are beginners, as Snow Summit isn't really a hardcore snowboarder mountain. They will constantly run into you or cut you off.

Secret - the best place to eat is at the top of the mountain - it is less crowded.

PROS: Decent resort.
CONS: Tough to drive there, snowboarders are unskilled.

The girl at the rentals counter insisted that I fit into a size 8 when it was painful for me to even step into the boots. I had to explain that my right foot is actually a different size than my left; to which she icily replied, "We can't give you different sized boots" even though I never made that request. I just wanted her to give me the next size up.

This is a decent mountain for snowboarding/skiing close to LA. If you're used to Utah and Colorado, it's a bit small and artificial. But I think it's a pretty good mountain for being so close to LA. Some of the snow may be artificial, which is never as good. I also ran across a lot of rude snowboarder while I was there (shouting obscene things from the lift, etc). But, in general, it makes for a good day in the snow!
