Void of the posh trappings of upscale salons, this warm spot makes up for its lack of luxury with affordable pricing and thoughtful touches, such as a complimentary refreshment table for its Saturday morning customers. The technicians are known primarily for their signature hour-long spa pedicure, which includes a warm lotion massage, thorough buffing, a polish change and a foot bath in marbles. Additional services include manicures, bikini and facial waxing, and full body massage.

Silk Nail Salon is a very good looking place. It really stands out on Frankling street and I went there once to check it out. One of my nails was broken and the manicurist really did a good job to "grow it out" and match it to the rest of my nails. After I left the salon, my nails really looked perfect and noone would know that one of them was broken just 1/2 an hour ago.

This is the best place for nail care I have tried other salons and none of them compareble to SILK NAIL. They take their time to ensure you are getting pampered and your money is worth. The staff is professional and polite. They always do a fabulous job and the atmosphere is very comfortable. I like extremely clean, soothing music and comfortable chairs there.

Ratings_icons Fantastic!

Extremely clean, soothing music and comfortable chairs. Personally, I find the staff to be friendly and professional, and NOT talking the way they do at most of the inexpensive nail shops. Amy at the desk is very attentive. She even saw the meter maid appraoching my car, averting a very expensive addition to my day! I keep coming back, even though it can be hard to get a last minute appointment, because of the great service, the excellent choice of polish (Chanel, YSL, OPI, etc.), the comfortable surroundings, and the CLEANLINESS! Great value!

PROS: Clean, friendly, peaceful, great polish choices.
CONS: Restricted street parking during afternoon rush hour.

This is the only place I trust to go for a manicure or pedicure because I know the instruments are clean and the staff is well trained. This is also a great place to be pampered, with comfy cushioned chairs and very friendly and accomodating workers. And free snacks! They also have massage and waxing, though I've always just done mani/pedi.

My best freind recommend this place to me. She told me that they do a good job even though they are not the nicest of people. I decided to check it out thinking how bad could it be. I had a horrible time!! The lady that did my nails was the ridest person that I have ever met. She barely gave me time to pick my polish color. She kept telling me to hurry up. So I actually got fed up with her. I left th ejar of polish on teh conter and walked right out. I don't even think that she cared that I left. I would never return to that horrid salon.

Ratings_icons Rude Service, Nice Jobs

Kim P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,097

I guess this would be a place for your money, you get the most out of it. However, I wouldn't recommend this place mainly because of the bad service and rude people I've meant there! The people are a bit snobby and they dismiss all my questions, and barely gave me the time of day to make my appointment. The workers, talks more amongst eachother and I wasn't sure if they were even really paying attention to what they were doing. The decor is nice and cutesy, definately interesting, but the demeanor of everyoen who was in there was horrid.

Ratings_icons Pretty Memorable for the Wrong Reasons - Scarred for Life

Alisa H. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,790

I came here the day before my wedding for a mani/pedi. I had read all these great reviews about what a great deal this place was ($40 for mani/pedi). For $40, Silks is more expensive than the local hole in the wall nail salon but cheaper than most upscale SF salons.

The treament started out really nice. They don't use those plug in $20 foot spas. Instead, your feet get to soak in a bowl of bath salt mixture with stones as massage devices. You then get a warm lotion massage for your hands and feet.

This is when the whole experience soured for me. While giving me a pedicure, my technician started yabbering away with her fellow staffers. She fails to get a tight grip over her utensils and lets one slip out of her hands. It hits me on the shin and gives me a cut the length of a quarter. I start to bleed and she just tries to clean the wound with her disinfectant. Luckily the manager came over with the commotion and told her to stop. The manager went to the drugstore around the corner and bought me a box of bandages and neosporin. She also gave me a certificate for 2 free massages and apologized profusely.

I didn't feel like acting up like a diva so I just decided to let it go. To make a long story short, I came away with a terrific manicure/pedicure but also with a 1 1/2 inch scar that I still have to this day. Even though it was a freak accident, needless to say, I probably won't be going to Silks again for a pedicure.

Ratings_icons Best Mani/Pedis Ever!

jaxgev

I used to go to a more expensive salon (guess which one) but tried Silk at my friend's advice. I'm normally a sanitary freak and am typically afraid of small, cheap nail salons but was impressed by the friendly, english-speaking staff, hospitality (beverage selection), extensive menu, fantastic (high-end) polish selection, amazing massages and clean facilities. I LOVE T's waxing, and Amy and J are so sweet. I am a mani/pedi fiend and go weekly so I like to think I know what I'm talking about. The only problem is that I just moved so it'll be a trek to get to them but it's SO worth it.

Pros: Clean facilities, awesome massages, great polish selection and extensive menu

Cons: Only one location (open more!)

I have been getting brazilian for years. This is the best place. For 30 bux, you get a clean wax, and its quick. I would dare to call it cheap, but that makes it sound like rubbish. I usually am all red and swollen for hours, at Silk, I wasnt irritated at all. I also usually get ingrown hairs, and have to endure the burn and stink of TendSkin. I never got one even irritated pore. Its been three weeks, and with the exception of a few stragglers, I will brobably have to wait another 3 or 4 before I can wax again. I have never written a review, and I thought I had to share.

Pros: Brazilian

Cons: NONE

Ratings_icons Best Customer Service!

94123girl

I have been going to Silk Nail Salon for years and as most of you all know they are great! But I had to most amazing experience there last Saturday that I wanted to share it with all of you. First and foremost I had never been on a weekend before and couldn't believe the spread of food that they had for everyone to enjoy. There was granola and fruit, hummus and pita, cookies, croissants, etc. Secondly, as I was getting my pedicure the owner noticed that I was getting a parking ticket because I was so relaxed that I forgot to ask her to feed the meter. She felt terrible even though it was clear that I could have cared less. As I was leaving admiring my newly manicured nails and toes she stopped me and gave me a gift certificate for a free pedicure. Even though it was not her fault that I received a parking ticket she felt awful and wanted to make up for it. I was more then shocked. It was totally unnecessary, but the best customer service experience that I have had anywhere. I usually only get a manicure and pedicure there on special occasions, but she's made a customer for life. I'll never go anywhere else. Thanks again Silk!

Ratings_icons Excellent Value!

annmarieta

I have been all over the city and Silk remains my favorite place. They have the little details down (heated lotion, hot towels, candy) and they give the best and longest massage which is my favorite part. Plus, the polish lasts forever, much longer than at other salons. Bottom line is that this is the best place to go, especially considering the price!!

Pros: Great massage, nice employees who do not talk amongst themselves!!

Cons: Sometimes you have to wait for a spot at the drying station, but never long

Ratings_icons The Best in San Francisco

rm

Silk is the best nail salon in San Francisco. The owner Jade treats every single customer like royalty. From the saturday snacks, to the candel lit restroom with high end products, to the lavander foot baths and warm lotion to massage you hands and feet. All of it is first class. I don't think I have ever waited more then a minute to be seated (Unless I was late) and even then, I was accomodated. It is a Saturday morning tradition and treat for me and my partner to go to Silk after a stressful week. We go upstairs to the triple platinum VIP lounge (not really, but it feels that way) and drift off to over an hour of pampering.

Highly recommended. Anyone who does not appreciate this place has a complex of some sort. The owner and the staff always make sure you are happy. For the ladies there is high end nail polishes (none of that walgreens stuff) and for the guys, they will buff your nails so bright the look like brand new.

Pros: Snacks, massage, Attention to detail

Cons: Parking, but that is San Francisco for you

Ratings_icons Disappointing Spa Experience.

femmebot

For my birthday, my friend treated me to a mani/ pedi at Silk. I was excited to have my hands and toes done and enjoy some QT with my pal. This was my second visit to Silk and I will never go back again. I have never had a worse manicure in my life. It is a good thing the spa has all of their sanitation machines on display because the woman cut me in four places. Besides the bloodshed, she also filed the tops of my nails leaving hatch marks that are visible through the polish. I cant imagine that this is the kind of service that people rave about. The pedicure was fine... I have no complaints in that regard.

Pros: decor, snacks, polish selection

Cons: manicure, parking, atmosphere

Ratings_icons Tried the rest and am now a regular at the best!

stefano28

I love Silk Nail Spa. I've tried many other places and found the best to be Silk. I am always treated well and they give the best foot massages! Ask for Lisa. While other nail places give a whimpy or quicky massage, Silk out performs and does a great job. I am now a weeky regular and find my visits to Silk as great way to end my stressful work week. Coming in on a Saturday morning to a spread of wonderful snacks and drinks makes it even more of a treat.

Ratings_icons The best mani/pedi in SF!

foodiedoodie

I've been meaning to try Silk for years, but with all the recent trendy cute looking nail spas popping up I've ignored Silk. Well shame on me! I've been to Teashi, Lavandi, and other places and although they may have the posh look, Silk's know how to do nails. I'm super picky and whenever I walk out of a place I'm not 100% happy with the mani or pedi and feel ripped paying 40-50 bucks with Silks I looked at my nails and they were perfect. The girl even helped me pick out my colors and sampled them on a few nails before she started. The service is super friendly and of course they have snacks to much on. They were super busy, but I didn't feel rushed at all. I'll def. be back as a regular.

Pros: mani/pedi, service, cost

Cons: none, none, none

Wow, I've been to several other nail spas in SF, but by far this will be THE place I go to. You are welcomed upon entrance w/cookies, veggie dips, crackers and refreshments. They have a fabulous selection of Chanel, Dior, YSL, Essie, OPI nail polishes. The pedicure was so relaxing with the lavender in the water bowls. All in all this was a wonderful experience.

Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Selection

Cons: NONE

sally_mcb

I can't imagine a salon with more enjoyable experience for the cost. Go on a Saturday, when they treat you to a perfect little buffet of fruits, veggies, hummus, and chocolates.. The staff are always pleasant and I've never had a problem getting an appt at my preferred time. The special pedicure starts with a lavender soak and includes a glorious (and lengthy) foot/calf massage that could put you to sleep. I really can't say enough good things about this wonderful place!

Pros: Friendly staff, Great value, Unique touches

Cons: Iffy parking

Great place. Love the atmosphere and the mani-pedi was to die for. Very friendly and the snacks were a nice touch. We were running 20 minutes late and they still let us keep our appointment on a busy Saturday morning. Will definitely be going back.

Pros: affordable

This is the best place ever! I have tried other salons and none of them compare to SILK. They take their time to ensure you are getting pampered and your money's worth. The staff is professional and polite. They always do a fabulous job and the atmosphere is very comfortable. They go the extra mile for their customers! I have always recommeded it to friends and will continue to do so.

Silk for me is a treat. The atmosphere, the service and the over all result of the Manicure and Pedicures is awesome. Beyond the Mani and Pedi, I get my eyebrows, legs and brazilian wax done there with amazing results. Silk is worth every penny you spend. What impressed me the last time is the owner walked to my car and put change in the meter without hesitating. I AM HOOKED!!!

Pros: Atomosphere,Mani Pedi, Service, Clean , Easy Parking,

This place is great. I live on Potrero Hill and so have been going to Mani Pedi, but I got so sick of their rushed and rude yet expensive services that I finally ventured elsewhere. For the same price, at Silk you get a relaxing mani/pedi with a wonderful hand and foot massage. Don't waste your time elsewhere!

Ratings_icons Best mani/pedi in the city!

noegirl2

Silk is hands down the best mani/pedi experience in the city. Clean shop, assurance that the implements are properly sterilized and a courteous and well-trained staff make this my favorite place. I recently went to Teashi and hated it! If I'm going to leave my neighborhood and spend a little more than the neighborhood shops charge, I want a great massage and to walk away relaxed. I've never been disappointed here and love the Saturday morning treats!

Pros: clean!!!, consistent service, great experience

Cons: none

I've been to Silk several times now and always enjoy my experience. The atmosphere and furnishings are comfortable and relaxing. In my opinion, they do the best french manicure/pedicures in the city! I also agree with a previous reviewer that their paint jobs seem to last much longer than those at other places.

Pros: reasonably priced, comfortable atmospher, professional staff

Cons: parking can be tough

corporatechick2000

We went for a bachelorette pedi and we ALL loved it. The bride to be felt like a queen with her feet in a silver basin with warm stones and chamomile. The chairs are super cushy with soft pillows with the most soothing music playing. The beautiful surroundings were made all the better by the nap time perfect temperature of the room mixed with the most relaxing potpourri. The price is more than reasonable for such a truely spa pedi.

Pros: atmosphere, price

If you want to pamper yourself and your girlfriends this is the place to go! The staff is highly skilled! They pamper you by massaging your hands and feet with warm mango lotion. I was in heaven!! Really good at doing french mani's and pedi's and it last... I have some salons I go to and 2 days later the polish is easily peeling of my nails, not the case at silk salon!

Try this salon by far the best! Call in advance especially for weekend appts.

Pros: Highly skilled staff, great atmosphere

My first visit was great. The atmosphere, interior deco, music were better than any other place I've ever been to. But their skill and customer services were as same as other cheaper places. My second, third and fourth visits/experiences were: great/bad/okay/bad. The service/skill are definitely NOT consistent. And for that price $40 mani/pedi I don't think it's worth it.

So far, I've gotten a manicure and Brazilian there. The staff is nice and very skilled. And what great prices, compared to getting a Brazilian at Tru for $75. The only drawback is the wait sometimes. Especially during lunchtime and weekends. My next trip will be for a mani/pedi and massage. Can't wait!

Pros: Skilled aestheticians, Cool decor, Resonable prices

Silk's pedicure is a great value. It is nearly as good as the pedicure I used to get at ReFresh, but much less expensive. They also have a private room upstair for two people, where you and a friend can get side-by-side pedicures. My roommate and I did this on my birthday. It was great!
