I simply love this place. It is soo unique and the people are so nice! I've been there so many times that they recongnize me and my family.
I love the unique atmosphere and the food is really good. I've been there for lunch and breakfast and the servings are really big! You definitely get a lot of food for little money. I don't remember how much the big breakfast was, but the lunch that I always get is around $7, so it is really fair. You get the food pretty fast, and everyone there are super friendly, the customers and the waiters.
The only thing bad I could say is that the coffee apparently isn't very good according to my mom. But this is my favorite restaurant because of nice people and good food.

To the writer who complained.

Don't bitch when there are signs everywhere about the booths. I go to that place all the time and have NEVER had anything but a great experience.

The food is great, servcie is great and the character is unreal.

These people are small business owners and they work hard to provide jobs for people. Jus because you cannot follow simple directions, you shouldn't have the right to slam this great local hangout.

Keep up the great work Ted, and I and the other hundreds of regulars will keep coming back.

PROS: Great, service,food ,ambience ,price.
CONS: Customers who cannot follow simple directions

Have no idea what the previous reviewer is talking about but the service and food is the best I've had in San Diego. Especially for that price!

The management and waitresses are extremely helpful and service is very fast and efficient.

Because of the busy environment on weekends and holidays I am aware that singles are not allowed to sit in booths and take up the whole table and are asked to sit at the counter. This is completely understandable considering the line of people waiting down the street so they can sit and eat there. This is called efficient business skills 101 and looking after your customers.

The previous reviewer sounds like a wack job! Why would anyone cry for being asked to move to the counter?

PROS: Excellent food and fast and efficient service
CONS: None that I could see

One weekend I woke up feeling particularly sick and was extremely hungry. So I walked on over to this restaurant. I waited in line behind several other people for a seat, was seated at a booth, even served coffee, then the owner comes out and says I have to leave, on weekends it's two or more per booth. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. There are signs but there was none at my booth so I didn't even know. It was the first time I ever ate there. He embarrassed me SO MUCH that he made me cry, which made the situation worse.

Since there was plenty of room I invited the people waiting to sit with me. Ted the owner made it sound like I was a nut and wanted me out. The people did come over but as soon as there was a spot at "the bar" area I took my coffee and sat down over there. The waitress was so kind........too kind to work for a smuck like that IMHO. She didn't even charge me for the meal, so I tried to give her a $10 tip. She declined. So I gave her a $5 tip. She came around and was so sweet and gave me a big hug. I'll never forget her and how kind she was.

Go eat at one of the other breakfast places on Newport instead of Old Townhouse Restaurant. It was a horrible experience and I'll NEVER eat there again. The Village Kitchen has better food and better customer service.

PROS: Very nice Waitress
CONS: Horrible customer service from Ted the owner
