In Short
Cubbyholes with recessed lighting sheltering small statues fill white walls at this refined restaurant, creating an intimate, romantic vibe. The extensive menu draws from all over India, highlighting dishes such as the chef's specialty lamb nilgiri, a minty, thick stew of meat and vegetables, and paneer makani, soft cubes of fresh unripened cheese doused in sweet tomato cream. Alu paratha, potato-stuffed whole-wheat bread baked in a clay oven, is perfect for mopping up extra sauce.

Key Points

  • Lunch Buffet
  • Great for groups
  • Weekend Brunch

Simply delicious

by BillCanada

All i can say is wow. The food was delicious - my wife is still talking about the mango lassi (it's been 2 months since we dined here). Located in Beverley Hills, we expected the prices to be outlandish, but that was not the case (a pleasant surprise).

Pros: Food just like my mamma makes

Cons: Make reservations on popular holidays, cause they get busy

Great Food, Great Service

by bidaal

The last review seems very skewed to me! I've been coming to Bombay Palace for 10 years and have been happy with the service and food every time. The decor is still lovely, the staff friendly, and the food quality top notch. The vegetarian selections are just as good as the meat ones. When you ask for the dishes to be prepared spicy, it really is! What a refreshing change from the oil laden, tasteless stuff most Indian restaurants try to pass off as "Indian" food. The food and service is great and I truly don't understand why some people had such a bad experience especially on Valentine's Day (very strange). I'm South Asian myself, so take it from someone who grew up on mom's homestyle food, you can't go wrong with Bombay Palace if you want good food.

Pros: Food, good chef, good service

Cons: N/A

Bombay Palace - A "Bomb"

by paradiseseeks

After reading the reviews, had to try it!

As we arrived, a tour bus stopped in front and about (40) people arrived for dinner. A buffet, private and screened, was set up for them. As out table was near the front window, we watched, this group depart and another bus group arrive.

The service and food, at best, mediocre... truly a disappointing dining experience! If this is romance, I missed something along the way.

Quality Indian and warm, classy ambience without the expense

by babystrange

Don't be deceived by the high end address and lovely white candle-lit interior of Bombay Palace. It is as welcoming and reasonably priced as can be, with fairly sized portions of masterfully made Indian cuisine. Our dishes were clearly composed of nothing but the freshest ingredients, and escaped the major fault of so many upscale, less authentic Indian establishments that prepare the recipes to be very dry. Bombay Palace gives you sauce galore and ample varieties of freshly baked, doughy naan to sop it up. One can eat and drink well here for $20-$30. In addition, the relaxed but upscale ambience makes Bombay Palace apt for small, quiet occasions.

Pros: Food, value, ambience, appealing location

Cons: Nothing

too expensive

by aj1972

I went to this restaurant on valentines day with my wife. First of all the menu was too expensive, and the quantity was too little. Besides this, we didn't know that the menu will be different today. The other thing is that the customer service was bad. The lady in pink skirt was very mean and rude.I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially on valentines day!

BOMB-bay Palace - Tragic and Disappointing

by stromp

For some reason, this restaurant keeps getting recommended and I wish it would just close down for good. My wife and I ate there on Valentines Day - and what a mistake - again. (we've eaten here before and the staff is still incredibly rude but we wanted to give it another chance - ugh, can't believe we did). In all of my world travels and all the places I've eaten at, eating here has set a new benchmark in HORRIBLE. Absolutely the rudest staff in LA I've ever encountered, the food was overpriced, my wife and I were totally forgotten about and on top of that, our food was nothing more than average. No presentation, no care taken at ALL, the portions were small and the cuisine uninventive. Sadly, this "palace" is nothing but a glorified "shack" now and has slid so far downhill, it's not even worth going to it anymore. A terrible disappointment. We were treated SO horribly. Stay away - far far far away from Bombay. Awful.

Pros: Clever lighting.

Cons: Everything else. Food, service, value. All bad.

Great food! Great service!

by samiras

We went for our first year wedding anniversary. Each and every member of staff made us feel on top of the world. My husband and I both work in the food and beverage industry and found the food tasty, the service prompt and the surroundings clean. Being Indian myself (married to a Frenchman), we would go back any day!

Wonderful service, amazing food

by tm66

I really don't understand how Bombay Palace has gotten all these bad reviews - my husband and I have been going for years on a regular basis, usually on a weekend night. We love the romantic atmosphere and the cozy seating along the wall. The staff is always very personable, helpful and informative and we find the food amazing. They have delicious vegetarian dishes that we cannot find in any other Indian restaurant. We've gone by ourselves, with family and friends and without fail every time we go we always have a fabulous experience and whoever goes with us always leaves loving the place as well.
Sorry these other people had bad experiences but I have nothing but great things to say about Bombay Palace!

Worst Indian

by abinan

The personnel is rude, ignorant, restless and careless. I am surprised to see a "ZAGAT RATING" at the restaurant, which doesn't deserve any kind of a compliment. ZAGAT has to be much more careful in rating such restaurants. I trusted them and visited the restaurant. It was an awful experience at a time of which has importance to me and my girlfriend.

Prices are also so high, portions are so small, personnel is behaving the guests as if they are the "guardians of prisoners", they don't listen to the orders, don't care about the guests' comfort and i am afraid, "ill mannered"...

Stay away and stop by any other Indian.... even a "drive-in" would leave you with more joy and happiness.....

Pros: location

Cons: irritating attitude, high price, mediocre food

As bad as the other reviews!

by intlfoods

We've dined here twice in a 5 year period. The food was comparable to Gaylord's (1 mile northeast on La Cienega Blvd. but Gaylord's much more professional). Let's not get into food, the issue here is dining experience. The staffs' very unprofessional and very incompetent, they should work in a buffet parlor instead which do not require any professional people skill. Sadly it's just their nature and they are ruining other peoples' dining pleasures. The owner's there but he's clueless, to them, it's just normal business as usual...very sad.
By the way, do not believe that they are the same owner as they have claimed to own numerous locations in NY and Canada, 'Bombay Palace' is a big chain owned by one man which resides in New York, particularly on the east coast and in the Toronto area and its got nothing to do with this one.

Pros: location

Cons: $$$$$, very unprofessional, not what it claimed to be!

Bad Dining Review

by wizlaw

This place used to be good the last time I visited it a few years ago. Now I feel that it has just gone downhill. The portions are small, the wait staff obviously has forgotten the meaning of the word "wait". The prices are also out of touch with what other indian restaurants charge. Too bad..

Pros: None

Cons: , bad service

by harsim

A truly satisfying experience. I was skeptical to go after reading the reviews below but the Zagat guide convinced me to try it out. Must check it out for yourself to be the best judge.
The food service and ambience compliment each other. Server was very helpful recommending dishes. Must try the Chicken Tikka Masala.

Awesome Food!!

by potbelly

How do I start! I moved to LA from London and could not find a single Indian restaurant which met the high standards of a classic balti restaurant. Until....of course, I came across Bombay Palace! The food was awesome! Their lamb chops even beat the best of the best back home. Try their Achari Lamb - spicy!! Goes well with Mango Lassi.
Highly recommended - you have GOT TO try this place out. Service and ambience is great too.

Pros: Location, Valet Parking, Service

Classy restaurant with great food!

by golakers

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. The food is consistently good and the service is great. The dishes are authentically Indian and will appeal to true Indian food lovers.
Shahi Paneer and Baingan Bharta are my favourite dishes here and the aloo tikki among the appetizers is the best.
The decor is also novel and classy.

Worst service on the planet

by Panduka

I went to this restaurant for Valentines Day. The service was disappointing. I will never go to this restaurant, even if some one paid me. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. They really need to take a lesson in customer service.

Pros: Ambience

Cons: Bad service, Attitude, Tiny tables

Service was horrible .. food OK

by talkkkkkk

Last week we went for Lunch on Sunday. I was totally disappointed at the service. The buffet trays were almost empty, when we requested for extra food, we were ignored and my husband had to ask for it again. There were only 3 pieces of chicken in the buffet. When we request for extra naan, we got burnt piece of bread. I think the hostess was having a bad day. I have never had problems there for dinner.

great lunch buffet

by clunkified

haven't been for dinner, so i can't speak to the horrible service these people are talking about. but, the lunch buffet is classy and tasty.

the chicken is tender and well flavored, and the saag paneer is top notch. no messing around here -- walk in, seat yourself, serve yourself, pay, leave. it's an easy, hassle-free lunch experience and the owners have been nothing but friendly.

great for a quick lunch in the 90210.

Pros: fresh food, quick dining, great lunch buffet

Cons: no galub janum
