Kicked out by the witch lady :-) (8 year old review)

by r k.

About 8 years ago, I was kicked out of the dental office when I requested for less x-rays during my regular check-up. During that time, the final quality of the work seemed to be good. I had a crown (not sure if I really needed), lots of fills, and regular cleanings. Of course, they came with long (2-4 hours) waiting times and the witch's (owner's) abusive personality.

Change is good.

by E s.

Wow, what difference! I went there recentley for a cleaning and to check out my teeth. I don't like going there but my insurance covers it. The lady in the office wasn't there anymore. Everyone was happy and cheerful. I asked where she was and they said she doesn't work there anymore. I can finally recommend this office to my co-workers and family. Good job peeps!

Worst Dental Work Ever

by m g A.

A pity no stars are not offered as this business receives none. The billing supervisor Suzy will BLATANTLY LIE to customers. Dental work is sub par and very expensive. Forget appointments as this office ALWAYS takes big money procedures ahead of you and makes you wait an extended period in the waiting room. A utilized this dental office for three of four visits. I found that competent dentists soon move to a different office. If you like waiting, overpaying for poor dental work and being lied to constantly then this is your place. But then you probably need a mental doctor and not a dentist. I fully gave this business enough time to show their character, but alas it is just a money grubbing dental office which herds you like cows to an expensive dental slaughter!

Feel like a sucker for going!

by Lindsay B.

I got an account on this site just to be able to add my voice to the chorus of people saying "DON'T GO HERE!" I feel like a sucker for not researching them better before I went and for continuing to go for so long. I have shoveled out so much money in the past two years for services that no one before thought were necessary (I only changed offices because I wanted a more convenient location). The entire process there is stressful and that finance woman is intimidating and unpleasant to deal with. I also saw the dog in the office and think that is very unprofessional for a health practitioner.

I too went in for a routine checkup and ended up staying for 4+ hours and being shuffled around to four different people for lots of extra work that needed to be done "immediately." I have never been nervous about going to the dentist, but going to this place freaks me out now.

Then, when I come back of my own accord to have someone look at my canker sores, no one knew what to do with me. This is after calling to ask if someone could even help me, and having to tell about 5 different people why I was there because no one was telling anyone else. I had to refuse x-rays and a checkup and constantly insist that I just wanted them to look at my sores! In the end, no one was able to tell me anything more than I had already found out on WebMD.

I'm never going back to this place.

omg

by p k.

There is some serious health care insurance fraud going on in this office. The very nice front desk girls told me quietly "come back on Tuesdays, she's not here" in reference to the who wandered the halls yelling orders at people, yikes, turko where are you? I will never go there again and encourage anyone who has had a bad experience to write your insurance companies (or tell the FBI, they should look at this)

WOW

by oh m.

I so wish I had read this BEFORE I went to this place! I only googled their phone number today so I can go get the xrays I paid for to go to another dentist -and saw these reviews! I went ONE TIME, got the whole car salesman pitch from the fast talking troll owner. She insisted I have all the work done right then, I sat in the chair for FIVE HOURS and after three different dentists gave me 12 shots of novacane and could not hit the nerve, I was told to come back for a root canal! They also NEVER even billed my insurance and had me pay a third up front.

What the *%$#

by Ms. T.

In my 55 years of life I have never seen a more unprofessional human being in this office. I was wondering as I sat in this office for my dental appointment how they can manage to get any work done at all in this office. The lady that runs this place is so rude and come to find out she is the owners daughter. The staff is exceptional and the receptionists are so nice and caring and try to elliviate all of the negative energy in this office from this lady that makes you feel like a piece of %$^# while your in her office.
In researching some of the things I found out on this office I am surprised that they are still open. It seems to me that any rational person would assume that she is deliberatley trying to damage this place, there is no other explanation for this. My husband still has to go there because of the location to his work, but I am pulling myself and telling my son and daughter to do the same for their families. Two visits was more than enough for me. One can also speculate the father/owner does not care about his practice or how he raised his daughter. Highly upset and disappointed that they are allowed to remain open.

Investigation????

by P B.

How has Turko files not come in and done an investigation on this lady that runs this practice?? I was in this office two weeks ago for some routine dental work and the financial lady in there is crazy. I was overcharged by $565.00 and still need to ocmplete my work. My insurance company said that they already had to pull their patients from this office once before so how they are still open is beyond me. I saw an old lady having to give her life savings to this crazy woman and on top of that her staff looked like a bunch of children that were in trouble. Some one big should be investigating them. IS the owner clueless or what????? My neighbor and older sister both had bad overcharging experiences here. I agree with all these complaints except the other side of the coin and they must not have dealt with t he crazy lady on that day. COME ON TURKO, IT AIN"T RIGHT!!!!

Mr Snyder

by Shannon S.

I agree with all of these comments and cannot believe that the financial demon is still there. She makes you feel like a child that did something terrible when she tells you what you "need" to get done. Then when you tell that you cannot afford to pay her incorrect prices, then she talks down to you like you are worthless. I got a routine cleaning and a tooth pulled and she me that my total was $375. I told her I could only afford $80 at the moment, and she took my "partial payment". I called my insurance immediately and asked about the cost and to complain. It turns out that they over charged me. The total cost of what I had done
was $40 and they were trying to charge me $335 extra. Once I called them, the receptionist, did admit that they had charged incorrectly and refunded the amount that I overpaid, but I never went back. 2 years later, my sister had the same thing happen to her. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!

Very Disappointed

by Ms. D.

I had my first and last appointment this week with them. I'm wondering does the owner know what kind of employee he has working for him. Her name was Kyleen and from the moment I walked in she wanted money and acted like she knew more than the dentist. Very poor choice in an employee who deals with their patients.

Beware of the money lady

by Mr. G.

I was recently "seen" at this facility and for lack of better words it was just disgusting. The staff was rude and looked mad the whole time I was there, the girl who checked me in looked like a prostitute and the lady who gives you your prices looks like death and sounds even worse. I was grossly overcharged with everything I had done and am now fighting with my insurance to get the correct prices so I can get a refund from them. I thought Military dental facilities were bad, but after retiring from the Navy and having a taste of civilian life I'd rather have the Military dental service back.I will advise all my family and fellow retirees not go here.I think it might have been a little less traumatic if the money lady wasn't there... all she did was insult, scream and make you feel bad.

Hated this place

by Aimee E.

I was recently overcharged for fillings that suddenly appeared after regular visits to this office for two years. The fillings weren't even found by the dentist who examined my teeth, but by the dental technician who did my cleaning.

The lady who does all of the financial transactions is horrible. They shuffle you into her office where she is anything but polite. She is pushy and doesn't care about the patient... just the money.

I put up with this place for two years but after my last visit, I am never going back.

Very sad

by Anonymous

I have to say that I am very surprised to see how Dr. Kassners office has been changed over the years. I have been a loyal patient of his for many years and was recently in there for a check up and was disgusted by the demeanor of his staff and especially his daughter who runs the office for him. I am sorry to say that I have defended his reputation to family and friends over the years but no more. He has been around for a long time but the treatment his daughter shows her staff members and patients is uncalled for and I will not be returning to this office. It is sad to to see that Dr. Kassner built up a practice all these years to watch his reputation destroyed. I use to have to wait forever in the waiting room and now there is hardly anyone in there. I brought my kids there and now I'm looking for a new dentist after all these years. Very very sad. I hope Dr. Kassner is aware of the horrible treatment that his daughter gives his patients, he is not in the office very much anymore which is a shame.

Staff is nice here but the wait time is long. You are never witht he same person for to long and the dentists were not to polite. The big problem this office has s the lady they have doing the paper work. She is mean, nasty and even her staff is afraid of her. I will not go back to this office because of her.

Not a good place!

by Anonymous

It took 2.5hrs for a simple exam and cleaning! They were not nice, herded me into room after room, the people were rude. No one said Hi or talked to me. Just shoved me into chair after chair only to make me wait. No one said sorry for the wait or even checked on me. Worst dental experience I have ever had. My 1st and last time going there.

Gross!

by Anonymous

All I can say is that his office is horrible!!! The dentists and staff are ok but the office manager is horrible. She over charges. i went to the office and needed some simple fillings and still ended up with a $500 bill.I needed four fillings, a cleaning and I wanted lycure (?) fillings and was told that they didn't do those. Left the office with amalgams and when I got home I called my insurance not only was I told that the office did do licures (?) fillings but that they were at no charge. This is not the first complaint that my insurance has received about them they are under investigation because of the office manager. By the way she is the owners daughter and I can't imagine he knows that she is running his business like this. She is rude, unprofessional and all you hear while your there is her screaming from her office to her staff. She also looks very sickly or drunk and should not be seen in public. I will never go back again!!!!

Do not go here

by Linda G.

Unfortunately, they were my dental provider for 3 years. Although the dentists are very good, the business is unscrupulous. My husband was quoted almost $2000 for a root canal, that in reality ended up costing only $90 when we changed providers and were properly billed. Each time I went in they recommended costly procedures (e.g. ,sealants, fluoride treatments, repeated xrays), despite the fact that I have only had one small cavity in my entire life, and have no dental problems . I refused, but practically had to fight the "office manager" to leave without signing/paying. This place should be reported to the BBB. DO NOT GO HERE!

excessive charges and plan to spend the whole day

by Anonymous

watch out big time for the charges at this place. The dentists are good when you finally get to see one. But the owner's daughter will take you for every penny you have before you get to see a dentist. She is a fast talker and gets you to sign paperwork while talking about the weather or something else. Also, she determines the work to be done and makes sure your insurance company doesn't cover the material for the procedure. She also tries to make you feel like a fool or a crabby person when inquiring about the billing.
If you still decide to go here make sure they give you an itemized bill and that you understand exactly what you are paying for before you sign. Also, take the bill home and check with your insurance first. This is a terrible example of assembly line dentristy. But I have to admit the technicians and dentists are really nice people.

i have been coming here years and just saw this site, wow was i surprised! yes sometimes the wait is a Little long, but i have been happy with all my dental work. i just got crowns on my front teeth and they look so beautiful, better then before. the staff and the doctors are always so pleasant, especially the young lady at the front. i know the minute i walk in I'm going to see a big beautiful smile greeting me " hello". i am always treated respectfully and the owners daughter, who runs the place, actually spends time asking me how i am and doesn't just shove me in and out just trying to take the money, she as well as other make sure i am pleased with the work and staff. she may be on the hyper side, but that just adds a little entertainment. i will never go to another dental office!

Oh my dog!!!

by Anonymous

I recently went to this office and was appauled that there was a dog in the managers office. It was in some sort of a pen which was not good for this animal and to top it off I have allergies to dogs. What is a dog doing in a dental office anyways? I went in for a simple exam and cleaning and although I felt rushed and unattended to I couldn't help but wonder about this dog being in there. I think it is highly unprofessional to have dog in a dental office and I plan to complain to the proper authorities but this outrageous situation. The doctors and staff were acceptable but the manager was less than pleasant.

Unscrupulous Dental Office

by S. P.

Had same experience as previous reviewer. Went in for simple exam and cleaning. Little old gal who runs the place drew up a treatment plan that would have cost about $4200, wanted signature on the spot, and to have her dentists do all the work that same day.
This included several tooth extractions and numerous other procedures I did not necessarily need. Just got the exam and cleaning and left. Reported them to our insurance plan so they can be investigated. DO NOT GO THERE. Most devious professional office I've ever seen.

horrible

by Gary N.

this place is a mess. When you first go in, you are literally hustled by the Insurance coordinator (who is, in fact, the CEO) but did not volunteer this info. Then she proceeded to load me up with all of these procedures that weren't needed and were not covered by my current insurance plan. I told her that I wanted only 'covered' procedures, but she talked so fast and slick that I signed, thinking I was getting only what I wanted. When the bill came in, I was shocked. That's when I filed a complaint with the state dental board and my carrier. Investigation is ongoing, even after 8 months.

5 1/2 hours at the dentist!!!!!!!!

by steph h.

I am not even exaggerating, my first trip in to mission valley dental took 5 1/2 hours. If you choose to go there you need to make sure you have the whole afternoon free.

I originally scheduled a consultation... that was it! I went in it was 9am they did my consultation told me i needed 3 fillings, plus 2 more fillings on places where my gum receded which were considered cosmetic and would be 380$ each, and then there was the crown i needed on a tooth where a cavity fell out. Of coarse my insurance wouldn't cover that either! After paying half of the 2200$ they started prepping my crown.. i guess so i wouldn't have a chance to change my mind, and they did one filling ALL ON THAT DAY!! ALL I SCHEDULED WAS A CONSULTATION! And remember it took ALL DAY because Each dentist has 4 or five patients at a time so you are waiting around A LOT!!!! Good news is the crown looks beautiful dentists were nice but be careful u don't get pushed around!!! Financial lady is nuts!

Over priced Dentist/ MVD

by Anonymous

I'm writting on behalf of my Husband who was a patient there, all they have ever cared about was pay as you GO!!! there are no payment plans and in our case my husband has a heart condition so he has to be careful about getting infections so they started work on a root canel and the a crown and it is in 2 parts and when he went back to get the permanent crown on they ask for payment and he said he couldn't pay until the following week so they wouldn't finish the work and he had to leave the office so in the meantime the temporary fell off but they didn't do anything to help until we paid $$$$ When he finally go it on we had to find a new Dentist and he looked at it we were told they had left a gap so now batteria could get in it, we paid 3,000 for it and we ended up paying another 3,000 to fix Mission Valley's mistake.. I wish we would of read some of these before we went there..DON'T GO!!!!

HORRIFIC

by Anonymous

I went because I had a cavity (I could see clearly with my eye--it was the size of a seed!), and they completely jipped me and gave me a bunch of things I did NOT need. They put a crown on I didn't need and it looks HORRIBLE--food gets stuck in there all the time! They also kept changing their mind and what was wrong with my teeth. First it was one cavity, then two, then two and a crown, then two cavities and two crowns and a possible root canal! I only got one side of my mouth done and decided I had had ENOUGH of them, but when I went to pay the first time they claimed they didn't know what to do with my insurance! I found them on my insurance website!!! My CEO goes to them! I went in March, it is August, and there has been a HUGE battle over the money--they have tried to charge me THREE TIMES for the same procedure! Almost six months of arguing them and I'm HOPING its settled! ANd they said they were going to contact creditors even though it has been THEIR mistake!!! NEVER EVER EVER EVER GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go elsewhere

by Anonymous

I believe the "financial advisor" is the daughter of the lead dentist (now retired), and I heard she is the wife of another dentist--nepotism reigns there. In any event, unfortunately my insurance knowledge is limited so I have fallen prey to the fast-talking spiels of the "financial advisor". However, I do know my teeth and also feel they perform many unnecessary services. I go approximatley every 5-6 months for check-ups (have since childhood) and each time, there is a shopping list of major work that needs to be done as if I haven't sat in a dentist chair in 10 years. I fell for it at first, chalking it up to the fact that I am in my 40s and many of my fillings are nearly that old, but now they want to re-do what they have re-done to line their pockets. The dentists seem reasonably skilled and are professional and gentle but jump from room to room in a frenzied rush. On average you will be seen about 1 to 1-1/2 hours after your scheduled appointment time. I agree with the other patients--they always want to do all work immediately, as if you have five or six hours to spend there. If you're independently wealthy, go there, but if money is an issue (as it is for most of us), either bone up on your insurance knowledge so you can be prepared for the infamous "financial advisor" or go elsewhere--they will take your $$$ if they can.

DONT GO!

by Anonymous

This place was HORRIBLE. I scheduled a routine 6 month appointment and they told it should take about 2 hrs. I just thought that this place must do a fantastic job if they spend 2 hrs cleaning my teeth. Well, I could have not been more wrong. I just moved to the area and just had an apt with my old dentist just 6 months prior and my teeth were fine. However, after 6 trips to the chair for X-rays, which they couldn't seem to get right, I was seen by one dentist who advised me I would need 3 crowns! What the @#$$! So, I was then led back to a room to see the "insurance/office manager" who was INSANE! She spoke a million miles a minute and explained nothing. After she went though how together we would defraud the insurance company by billing for services that weren't covered, I proceeded to tell her that I work for the insurance company and NO I wouldn't be paying up front for services because they are Contractually Obligated to collect payment AFTER the claim had been filed with the insurance company. She very quickly changed her tune when she realized that I had more knowledge of the insurance process than she did. So, after accepting the fact that I wouldn't be paying up front, she informed me they could start the crowns that day. I stated NO, that I had scheduled a cleaning only and only wanted only a cleaning and would schedule a follow-up apt for other services. I was then led me back to the chair for the cleaning where I had to remind several dentists to back off (they kept coming into the room to start the crowns). That place had me so paranoid that at any moment they would just come up in the middle of my cleaning and start numbing me up for crowns I couldn't even relax. It was ridiculous! I have never experienced anything like this before and this place is a joke. They herd you through like cattle giving everybody crowns. I have never went anywhere where you have your cleaning and then they want to start work on you right away before you even have time to process what is going on. I feel they do it so they can trap you into paying for services you don't need, because after they start the process of the crown they know you HAVE to come back to have the work completed. They were handing out crowns like candy and have dentists lined up in back just waiting for the chance to start expensive procedures. I will never go back there again and have told everyone I know to stay far far away. I just feel bad for the patients who have limited insurance knowledge, as the speed freak in back will take every opportunity available to take as much of your money as possible.

like horrible experiences

by George N.

I just wanted simple cleaning, well $450.00 later left with a sore mouth. Definitely felt like a number here. Check in and wait then get in line for X-rays, then wait, then hygienist, wait, then wait again for the crypt keeper insurance demon tells you to take out your wallet (pushiest person I met in a long time) even though I had insurance (which I thought was good) apparently not very good there. I went back like an idiot 6 months later, chalking up my first experience to just having a bad day. I again just wanted to have a cleaning, later to go through the same lengthy process come in have a seat wait go back to waiting room ect.. To find out that they didn't fill the right teeth 6 months prior. The devil came in and tried to re-charge for work not done the first time, I through a fit, threaten to sue then miraculously I was not going to be charged this time. Well I did have two teeth filled again, had my teeth cleaned, left again with a sore jaw, then changed insurances. I will NEVER go back there. I asked people in the waiting room during my extended stay about their experiences and many of them felt the same. STAY AWAY FROM HERE

I didnt even make it to my appointment today because of all of the reviews I read that were so bad!!! I had spoken to this "devil" woman on the phone before and it reminded me that I should not go to this office! When they called me just 4 minutes after my apointment they seemed demanding and inpatient and wondering why I wasnt there yet. I told the receptionist that I am not going because of their horrible reviews and customer service. She said nothing to apologize and just hung up the phone on me like she did not value my response at all. I will never go here, and will not make the mistake that others did, unfortunately.

worked there for 5 hours, They did not pay me. After 1.5 hours, I told her, I would not accept the job. She told me to stick around till later. I did not want to leave them short handed. The reason I did not like the job was that it was like a factory line. They line up the patients and tried to maximize profit by doing as much work at one time. They did not have the tools to do quality work. I hold my standards much higher. It is possible the Dr's there were doing quality dentistry, I just don't see how given at the rate the were seeing patients, and the equipment they had (just the basics)

Slam Bam No Thank You Mam...

Went in for a simple cleaning, walked away with a long bill and sore mouth. Assembly line. Check in..wait..wait longer..get in line for X-rays..wait in line for the dental hygentist..wait. When I thought my time had come for my cleaning (2 hrs later), I entered a dark room with no windows. Behind the counter in this small windowless interrogation room sat the devil with a very large calculator. Although the hygentist "suggested" proactive measures, the devil insisted these items were necessary to avoid any future pain. (root canal) After 4 hrs. in the chair, no cleaning and a very sore mouth...still hurting 1 month later. Don't make my same mistake...just say NO Thank You and walk away...

okay, so i have bad dental insurance. does that mean that i have to go to this terrible place? the insurance lady is actually in charge of prognosis, and the licensed dentists are apparently just there to make suggestions. actually, don't bother with your insurance, just bring your check-book as you will pay out of pocket for EVERYTHING here. and forget about options, just do as you're told and pay what the lady asks you. before receiving services ,of course. what self-respecting dentist or dental assistant, or receptionist for that matter, would work in such a terrible place? stay away from here, far away.

#$%*&^%!!!!!!!

by Lynn S.

The "financial advisor" is so money hungry I don't even think she's human! The dentist's themselves are very nice and efficient but that lady is bad enough to make me want to never EVER go back, and spread the word to every person I ever met. First she didn't go over any prices, options, insurance coverage or anything, and then when I tried to read what I was signing she slammed it down and said "don't bother with that boring stuff it's just about gum disease" When in reality it was additional unnecessary services that I was agreeing to pay for. At the end she kept insisting on services I did NOT want, nor had the dentist suggested as a priority. Terrible customer service!!

high costs + unnecessary procedures + assembly line dentistry = scam

by Jane D.

Q: Why do i have to visit the insurance adjuster, several times, in between my dental services? A: Because she will claim that they don't provide services that my insurance covers and over-charge you for all of their services (even if the HMO directory lists them as covered) and force you to pay out of pocket. She will not offer alternatives and will simply tell you what you must do, even when the dentist suggests several options. They wouldn't even cover a basic filling becuase she claims they do not do "silver fillings", only over-priced fillings not covered by my insurance.
Q: Why might she do this? A: Because the so-called "insurance adjuster" is actually the CEO of the company. Don't believe me?, call and ask yourself. I have filed a grievance with my provider against this dental group and suggest to all of those with similar experiences to do the same.

Mission Valley Dental

by mercedes j.

Our insurance co. listed this company as a choice to choose as our DMO provider. Hubby went in with a problem, they fixed. I believe they suggest things that should not be done. Through our DMO coverage, they charged us more than non-insurance dentists. They refuse to file insurance claim form. They talk a fast-talk, but it has nothing to do with reality. Have ANY work from them PRE-APPROVED from your insurance company. I recommend find a different office. As to the work done, time will tell.

Not the best experience -

by Sarah J.

I had no problem with the Dentist, she was very professional, unfortunatly, I can not say the same for the "Insurance/Payment" women. VERY pushy and extremely RUDE, even the receptionist agreed with me. I've already selected another dental office and I'm much happier. Going to the dentist is stressful enough, why add the aggrivation of dealing with someone who has NO BUSINESS dealing with the public

Wait and wait some more and then spend alot

by Linda K.

Have been to this dentist office for several years. The wait time for a simple cleaning is always over an hour but more like 2. It feels like an assembly line. The Insurance coordinator is very pushy with procedures and last time extreme, trying to get me to start that day on several major procedures which would have cost me thousands of dollar out of pocket above and beyond ins. It also seemed that is was more than what the dentist had said directly to me. I'm am going for a second opinion and switching offices.

Very Happy

by Lady B. | insider Insider | Rank: 22,901

I was happy with the dentist and the resluts of the procedures that I had at this practice. All I ask is that I get in and out without alot of hassle and no pain. They did thier job.

Assembly Line Dentistry

by Sophia M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,091

I started going to this office when my previous dentist stopped accepting my insurance. I went to Mission Valley Dental for several years, partly hoping the experience would improve. This office practices what I call "assembly line dentistry". Go in for xrays, go back into the lobby, go in for cleaning, go back in the lobby, then go see the dentist. Also, I feel like their insurance coordinator/"sales manager" was somewhat pushy on treatments. I would not recommend this office.

long wait, okay dentists

by Katherine T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,839

This place is alright. I hate dentists, so I can't say any dentist is good though. The good thing about this place is that they take a lot of insurances so most likely if you have any insurance, they will take it. The dentists are very competent, but it often takes awhile to get in to actually see the dentist. So if you're dying of pain from a cavity or need immediate assitance for some blinding ache, I suggest trying somewhere else. Otherwise I would recommend this place if you just need a normal check up. Call early though.

Not impressed

by Jill T.

This place filled more cavities in my mouth in 6 months than I had ever had done my entire life. I think they recommend services that aren't necessary. Plus, I speak Spanish, and they assume I don't, and one day I heard a hygienist discussing very unprofssional stuff with the dentist.

Also, it always takes forever in there. They leave you stranded in the chair for up to half an hour before they see you.

PROS:
CONS: Long waits. Recommend services that are unnecessary.
