I went to pet arcade to look at the fish and supplies. What I can say is that they really take care of there fish and there supplies are awsome! The only thing was that the people that work there look at you funny when you go in or when you walk around or get things you need. They were ok not friendly and not rude which is ok. Anyways it's ok I will continue going there for fish and supplies I can't comment on other pets just fish.

I've been going to the Pet Arcade since I was 5. I got my first fish there. They really do care about their animals and treat them well. They will tell you everything you kneed to know about the animals. They teach you how to treat and take care of the pets. They have great equipment that will cover what ever you want for the pet. I've never been disapointed.

We have be going to Pet Arcade for the past 4 years when a friend recommended them as a wonderful old fashion neighborhood pet store that were around when we grew up. They have certainly lived up to that reputation with us. We got our first hamster there, which lived for almost 3 years. (They breed and raise their own hamsters, rats and mice). They are friendly and always willing to help even with "wild pets" that have made their way into our family pet collection.
I would highly recommend them. All the animals are kept clean and well cared for.

... ever since the woman who worked in the rodent department, Bea, passed away, the quality has really gone down. she fought for the rights of the animals. my sister bought a llhasa apso from there and she helped us take care of him and was extreamly helpful. after she passed, i went back to buy a dog for myself, and the prices have gone up almost 1,000 dollars! i was appalled!!! she was close friend and the fact that they would taint her life's work is amazingly disturbing. Bea was the reason i went to pet arcade. the dogs are cooped up in tiny cages and the cats are all the way in the back. they used to be in large cages and have a lot of space to move around. something changed and it needs to change back.

Though by no means an expert, I have been keeping and breeding various fish, reptiles and amphibians responsibly for most of my life. After relocating to the area, I was looking for a local store for supplies, and was told these guys knew their stuff, and were honest and friendly, etc. My personal experience was that yes, they were honest, and that's frankly where it ended. Though I admit keep more exotic species than the average person, I was forced to endure a uninformed, and embarrassing lecture on one of my pets, how it was endangered, not legal to keep, and they would/could call the authorities....When the captive bred pet in question has been fine, and a perfectly legal to keep animal for many many years. This gray haired gentlemen was loud, rude, embarrassing, and woefully under informed. He apparently lacked critical up to date knowledge about his own business. All in all be wary if your going in for anything but common freshwater fish, and even then I'd steer clear of some particular older staff people.

I have been coming to this store for over 10 years and the employees have been more than helpful about all animal questions I have had. As a foster parent I have bought several small animals for the children to raise (and was also told dwarf hamsters are nippy, which they are. I was grateful) have 2 allergic rescue Shar Peis who have benefited for the product suggestions I received at Pet Arcade and have a large fish tank full of Pet Arcade fish. Each employee I have interacted with has been helpful, knowledgeable and friendy, often spending a lot of time with me explaing things. They are my pet store of choice.

When I walked into the store I thought it was probably the best pet store I had ever seen. I mean all of the animals were so well treated and they had all of the supplies that you needed. I love the pet arcade and always will

I walked into this place today and walked straight out. After seeing puppies in the back that clearly were not up for adoption in the sense of saving an animal (like at PETCO- where they have adoption days for shelter puppies) I was appalled. I didn't think pet stores like this existed anymore, but of course i should know better because PUPPY MILLS still exist. 90% of puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mills, this is definitely not of the 10% who don't sell puppies for an insane profit. DO NOT SHOP HERE, DO NOT SUPPORT PUPPY MILLS!

This place has the rudest female employees I have ever met. The men employees are always very friendly but the lady with short dark hair & glasses, I think she is an owner, is a Bi***. If you have something in your arms that you are going to buy, she will follow you around the store. I am a huge animal lover who currently owns - Pug, parrot, Cat, Corn Snake, Ball Python, Chameleon(s) & Rose hair Spider.I have been a breeder of Chameleons for over 15 years. It is my passion. I sell my babies to the Vivarium in Berkley. They specialize in customer service UNLIKE THE PET ARCADE.This place is overly priced & the puppies/kittens are always sick. The vet that they take them to is across their parking lot. This place is horrible. I have several friends who have lost their animals that they purchased at the Pet Arcade who got sick days after bringing them home only for them to die at the hands of the vet that the Pet Arcade employs. If you want a sick animal who will need to see a vet as soon as you get it home, & will either die, or have permanent issues... Buy it here at the Pet Arcade. This place should be closed down. The only good thing about this place is that the birds SEEM to be taken care of. But, looks can be deceiving. The issue with Oregon - IS VERY TRUE. They will tell you that the animal(s) have sold, however.... they were just taken back tot the puppy mill in Oregon where they swapped them out for a different breed that will hopefully sell faster.I have a friend who use to work here. It was only for a few weeks because she could not deal with the dishonesty of the owner & the other female employee who was supposed to be her supervisor. She seen the way that they treated / neglected the puppies & kittens - & quit that day. She was in tears when she called me. I could not believe the things that she said that they did to these poor helpless animals. SHUT PET ARCADE DOWN - SAVE A FEW KITTENS & PUPPIES FROM A MOST CERTAIN DEATH!

From personal experience I can vouch that any reputable breeder of a pure bred animal would not mass produce baby animals for sale at a pet store. They are constantly returning the ones that don't sell for a new batch every 2 weeks. This place is all about profit and not about the animals welfare! Please do not buy a "designer breed" or "pure bred" from this puppy/ kitten mill supporter! Stop the animal cruelty and adopt from the local shelter.

I ran into a woman at another pet store, she had her dog with her. Her dog is sweet and gentle. We asked where she came across her. She told us The Pet Arcade. She proceeded to tell us that after several visits she was told that that would sell her the puppy 1/2 price because the puppy was going to be taken back to Oregon. We went in and found many cute puppies and several friendly people who either owned or were employed at Pet Arcade. Mellisa was wonderful, helpful and kind. My children and i really enjoyed being there. One of the owners was also friendly Fred. He was interested in talking with us, let us sit with our puppy of choice. We stayed an hour. When we inquired of pricing he gave us idea of how we could negociate. I had done research on pricing of various breeds and I felt their pricing was a little high. We went back the following day and there were two women there who were rude and abrupt. Joy was one of them. Knowing we all have trying days I chalked this up to a bad day at the office. When we inquired about price flexibility we were rudely told absolutely not. I believe there is another man with tattoos Bill. He was nice brought the puppy of our interest to us and we stayed a good 1 1/2 hour. He had great information. When we inquired of possible price flexation.. He said no. This puppy will sell and I have food I need to put on my table. I agreed because I understand that. The two rude women were there and seemed impatient. Again I think I understand as this is a business and they must have people goo gooing over the puppies. When I inquired to the other woman, with short dark hair and glasses would the puppies be returned to Oregon if they did not sell.. She said no all the puppies would sell. I already knew this not to be true so hmmmmm. Bill had said that the puppies go back within two weeks in which they pick up new puppies. We went in one more time seriously looking at the 875.00 price as a consideration. We spent time with the puppy and were told by the less than nice woman.... Jill I Believe shooed us out. No visits with the puppies.... I find the store to be outstanding and they have a good variety of pets. We are not sure we will ever purchase a puppy here because of the dishonesty.

My family and I have gone here for many years. I have gotten over 13 fishes and a Shi Tzu and a Kitten, that lived till the age of 15 I believe with no helath problems.

For all the people that have negative comments on here, there animals cost so much because they are pure-bred. My Shi Tzu was born in Oregon and its parents were show dogs. He has a perfect bite and is an extremely sweet dog. I was little when I got my cat that recently died but as I said I know that he never had ANY mediacl problems, along with my dog. A lot of you just need to do more research on animals before you get them, it's almost a guarentee that an employee at a store won't know the answer to one of the many questions you ask so don't put all the pressure on them and do some research for the better good of your pet. Also where are you people thinking Pet-Co gets there animals? And you're complaining about a place like Pet-Arcade?

The other day I went in there to find an adorable 'Cheetoh' kitten. He looked skinny so I asked a lady that worked there if he was okay and she honestly answered that he just came back from the vet (the one they use that is directly across the parking lot) and had a cold but is getting better.

To the person that said they told you dwarf hamsters are mean. They usually are, they're usually very nippy and mean. I have been to Pet-Co many times and have also gotten pets there. The staff at Pet-Co are NOTHING compaired to the staff at Pet Arcade.

I am 15 and knew more than a 30 year old that worked in the Reptile Center...he was telling me to use a fish light for my chameleon! I wanted to smack him after he tried to get me to purchase it. I told him I needed a Tropical Reptile light not a fish light and he then said "Oh uhhh..." and showed me a Desert Reptile light! I then went straight to Pet Arcade where they told me exactly what I needed. (The old fixture I bought at Pet-Co that had broken was because at Pet-Co they didn't tell me I need to remove the plastic cover for the light to even work. I didn't think of it because you had to unscrew part of the light to even get to the plastic.)

The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because their prices on stock, I just get my stock for my pets at Pet-Co which has many sales. Also because I personally believe adopting a pet is the best option.

I have been going to this pet store for a long time and bought a few pets from them...two of which were puppies. I bought a Cocker Spaniel and she started having eye problems right off the bat, very expensive to correct but worth it, I loved her. The last pet was a Toy Fox Terrier...or at least that's what they told me. We spent over a $1000.00 that's including all the crates and leashes, etc. I asked specifically if we are going to need a crated, leashes collar, etc, larger than what we had purchased and they stated that the dog was not going to grow much bigger then it was. Our dog now is 12 pounds and does not resemble a "toy fox terrier" at all. He has long legs and looks like a smaller version of a regular smooth hair fox terrier. I went into the store to see if they would trade in the crate and/or the collar, leashes to accommodate his size to honor their mistake and they would have nothing to do with it....it seems they support puppy mills and only money and have little regard for the pets they sell or the customers they sell these pets to. It seems a bit shady and do not refer Pet Arcade to anyone....and everyone I know owns multiple pets.

I am a longtime - 20+ years of this store. They take very good care of their lovely puppies kittens, hamsters, rats, lizards, snakes, and fish. They have a wonderful selection of supplies from basic to over-the-top. They also give great advice. This pet store has been under the same ownership the entire time I've been a customer. The staff is consistently pleasant and helpful. I purchased a lovely bearded dragon from the store and I purchased a yorkie several years ago who is just a doll...looks like a tiny silky bear but has a giant personality. I can't say more about this place. The puppies are kept clean, well-fed and cared for and always look healthy and active. Same for the kittens who alwas have climing and playing toys. I will NOT shop at PETCO. I walked into the one in Novato and found the parakeets all pecking for seeds in a bowl of nothing but shells. I saw very lethargic animals and have heard some HORRIBLE things about this company. PETA HATEDS PETCO!

Tammy, please email me about your experience with Pet Arcade. I've sent a copy of your review on Pet Arcade (through insiderpages) to Oprah. Did you see the Oprah shows on puppy mills? I've asked Oprah to do a follow up story on people who buy dogs from pet stores only to find out that they have a host of physical and sometimes mental problems. I've tried to include you as a friend on the insider pages, but don't think you got the email. please email me at jkmalak@comcast.net. I hope you check back to the site to read this. Thank you! I bought two cats from this store and they were both very sickly (covered with fleas and had to be treated for intestinal worms). One is still living but she has been a terrible pet. She's always been sickly and has such a terribly needy personality. I later did research on pet stores and found out that 99% of dogs and cats that these sell come from dog and cat mills. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Please go to the local humane society...there are millions of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens that need homes in the US. I can't emphasize that enough. By the way, did anybody watch Oprah on puppy mills?

I worked in the pet industry, in various capacities for over 15 years ... 3 of which were spent at the Pet Arcade.

The industry is a tough one to excel in ... not just financially, but for reputation as well ...

Neighbourhood family-run pet stores have all but disappeared. Overhead is outrageous. Public scrutiny is even higher.

It's a testamant to their business that it has been around for so many years.

Hands down, in my experience, the store has no equal.

I have been visiting this pet store for years and am a little disappointed. When I bought my cat here, the owner said she was in perfect condition and would make an excellent pet. She had a disease which nearly killed her but we had proper veterinary care so she made it through. I came back there to get a pair of Campbell's Russian Dwarf hamsters, because no matter their flaws, they are better than Petco. I asked if they had Dwarf hamsters and they said "No, dwarf hamsters are vicious and cannot be kept in pairs because they will fight like pitbulls!" Of course, I bought all the supplies for my new hamsters there but procceded to Petco for the hamsters themselves. The hamsters are very sweet and never bite, they get along perfectly well. I will continue to buy supplies at Pet Arcade but am likely to never buy animals there again.

I purchased a 3month old shih tzu here a few weeks ago. I sat playing with this puppy and his sister for over an hour constantly asking questions to the owners, I was promised that there was not a thing wrong with these dogs and that the boy had a great bite and could easily be used in a national dog show. they also told me if there was anything wrong I could exercise my puppy lemon law rights. I took the puppy to the vet to find out he had kennel cough as well as parasites He had bloody stools and later we found that he was missing toes. Now does anyone know of a dog show that rewards there contestants for missing a toe? When I tried to exercise my rights I was punished They guarantee to pay for any bills within the first few days, they did not, they told me that they would refund my money of over one thousand dollars a few weeks after I return the dog.The owner was very angry that I contacted the breeder which is Bailey kennel out of Jacksonville Oregon where they paid only 100 dollars for this dog. They also told me Just return the dog and we will both wash our hands of him! now would you want to return a sweet innocent animal to a man that would just assume to wash his hands of him. I scared for all pets that are in there care.I forgot mention that when i was purhcasing the dog I asked one of the older women if she wouldn't mind holding the dog her answer was yes she told me "Im not really a dog person" and suggested that I let the other lady hold him. If you want to buy a dog Do NOT DO IT HERE! If we stop supporting people like this we will all end up helping the dogs that are sold through puppy mills!

I am a long time customer of pet arcade, knowing most of the employees. Generally it is my favorite pet store, some prices are high, but its a quality small business. The fish are great quality, except the dead ones from the morning, but nothings perfect. The dogs are in cages, but I can assure you they're not from mills, they come from pure bread breeders in Washington and Oregon. Overall i love the store, they dont specialize in anything really, more so general pet supplies. No marine fish/corals either...but theres always SF for that!

I love this store, and will buy there for as long as i live!

Staff are very friendly and helpful, I'm not sure about the quality of their rats though or where they get them from. We did get a nice cage and bedding materials etc from there and the parking is good. Definitely better than Petco, but I wouldn't get another rat from them.

These people buy dogs and cats from breeding mills. In some cases not good quality or good health... And then over charge for pet quality pets as if they were breed quality..

Yet they are nice people. But the prices are over the top..

So only the emothional buys here.. My advise is to shop around and take your time. Then buy the same pet for 1/3 less and yet get top breeder pets... Healthy and breedable...

In other words... these people are to into the money and not the buyers... So buyers beware... And no
I am not a new comer to this company.. Fact is I was a customer.. then I got educated...

Best wishes...

A Consumer!

PS- OK they are good with FISH! But other then that DEWARE!!!! Because Warm blooded pets are not to be
sold like fish supplies.... so lets just call this company THE FISHY PET STORE....

A great place for pets. I go to set up my aquariums and feed my California Kingsnake and Bearded Dragon. I love just to look around and find things I need. They have pretty much everything here and live animals. If you are looking into reptiles or fish ask for Charley.

It's been about five years since I moved close to Pet Arcade located at the near corner of Redwood Hwy and Professional Parkway in San Rafael.
They are incredibly knowledgable and have consistently helped me with pulling together and stabalizing my large acquarium.

In addition I have bought the most beautiful birds from them, along with supplies, and they are always helpful and guide me in the right care.

When I have a problem with either animal or equipment they are always gracious to help. Pet Arcade is an excellent shop that practices good old fashioned, come-back, customer service!

I used to work close by to Pet Arcade and used to buy feeders for my Red Devil. They have a lot of pet supplies and accessories. I mainly go there for the fish supplies which they are limited in because its not specialized in fish. It is pretty big and has its own parking lot. The staff is very helpful and knowlegeable of everything they sell.
