I'm embarrassed for them

by Dave P.

OK... this is the worst food I have ever ever ever had!! My boyfriend and I both ordered chicken tandoori with nan for take out... It was 35 dollars and the worst meal I have EVER had. There was two small little bad pieces with some stick rice and some NASTY cold sauce. They should be embarrassed. I'm embarrassed for them. Save your money and go to Royal India in Gas lamp... its the same price and much better.

Excellent value

by diane r.

I am just amazed at what super value The Monsoon Restaurant Group offers.
I should not say this but for offering such high class restaurants in excellent locations, I would be willing to pay alot more but I do love the value for money I get.
The service needs polishing up but apart from that, I give ten out of ten.

DONT believe the other negative reviews at all

by guest g.

This restaurant is a gorgeous and stunning restaurant. I read the other negative reviews and they did not make sense at all. I think they have horrible competitors that are jealous of their success. These guys have a chain of the most beautiful restaurants. They must have put millions of dollars into them. Food and drinks are to die for.

Delicious

by Nauz D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,166

Bombay is one of my favorite Indian Restaurants in San Diego. They have great portions and its a great place to take the family. I would absolutely recommend getting HOT garlic Naan and Tamarind Chutney for an appetizer...its to die for!

Simply stay away

by fcathy8 W.

It deserve negative star. I usually do not complain however it was the worse of the worse (at least they win that award). Horrible food. It ruined our anniversary dinner. Server did not come on our table for 15 minutes and then the drinks I ordered did not come for 15 minutes when there were only 2 more tables. There was no taste in the food and the bread was like card board. Simply STAY AWAY.

Average food, poor service

by Geronimo S.

New and improved dining experience, but poor service. Long waits, unless you have a reservation. Food is dry and average, not the best Indian food in San Diego. Also, not cheap. Consider other places in the area with better service and food.

Very good food, excellent service

by C P. | insider Insider | Rank: 28,606

Lots of tasty Indian food here, and we've greatly enjoyed their vegetarian options. As noted before they have excellent pakoras, and be aware that their appetizers can be very generously sized. If you order some naan (and, really, why wouldn't you?) I'd recommend their garlic naan which is delicious and well balanced (often overly garlic at other places).

Be aware that this is a bit upscale/trendy, I think most entrees are in the range of $15. Worth it if your budget allows, but if you're looking for cheap curry then look elsewhere.

I have only been there during weekday evenings, but the service was consistently good. Pleasant staff who pay attention and can provide tasty suggestions. We did stop by on a Friday evening once, but the wait was about an hour so we moved on.

Please note that they moved across the street from the location listed above (now 3960 Fifth Ave).

PROS: Food and service
CONS: Hillcrest parking, worth getting a reservation on weekends

Best palaak paneer Ive ever had!

by Eric C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,111

We love Inidan food and this is one of our favorite places to get it. They give you an option of how spicey you want your food. The service is courteous and accommodating. I especially like their palaak paneer, samosas, and pakoras. I wish they offered something more by way of sweets but their kulfi and kheer are quite delicious. It can be crowded here at times and sometimes there is a short wait for a table, especially during the holiday season and on weekend evenings. You will most likely have to park in the lot just a few steps away. BE SURE to get your parking stub validated at the restaurant so that you don't have to pay for parking!

PROS: Fantastic food and service
CONS: crowded at times

excellent food

by Shinene C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,426

The puri and palaak paneer are the best I've had. The naan is pretty delicous too. The maater paneer is awesome. The decor is warm and welcoming and the staff is friendly. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant seems quite clean. The samosas and pakoras and delicious! Parking is a hassle but you can pay to park in a lot nearby. Get your reciept validated at the restaurant.

PROS: Excellent indian cuisine
CONS: poor parking

Good Indian Food

by Ting W. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,391

Bombay is one of two places to get Indian food in Hillcrest. At first glance, its location seems extremely small...and it is. It howeve leads an intimate feel to the setting, and one can see several couples on dates at the restaurant. The garlic nan ($3) is delicious, as is all of their curries. Do not get their appetizer sampler unless you plan on eating a giant plate of fried food. Indian food in San Diego however is not cheap and a curry will set you back about $15. A good option is to get the buffet. For $15, you are able to get an assortment of all-you-can-eat curries, unlimited nan, and mango mousse dessert.

PROS: Good food, nice ambience
CONS: Too expensive for curry

MONSOON GROUP RESTAURANTS ARE THE BEST IN SAN DIEGO

by guest100000030

have been following the Monsoon Group Restaurants for over twenty years now.

I went to their first location when they opened Kool Korner cuisine in Hillcrest.

After that I followed the Monsoon Vegetarian restaurant, Bombay, Masala, the new Monsoon and I recently dined at your latest Mexican restaurant ..Casa De Madera.

I told all of my family and friends and they are all true loyal customers too.

Not only is the food excellent but your design and decor is incredibly beautiful.

Keep up the good work guys.

Will be in tonight and keep a booth for me.
Jamie Johnson.

We came to your Taste of Hillcrest event and just loved it...your Theatre is great in the back.
After that we came to try Monsoon and Masala and were blown away.
Please open in London as we have no classy restaurants like this.

OK... this is the worst food I have ever ever ever had!! Honestly... I don't know what the people who reviewed this place positively were eating. There were two little pieces of bad chicken with some sticky rice and some NASTY tasting cold sauce. They should be embarrassed. I'm embarrassed for them. Save your money and go to Royal India In Gaslamp.. its the same price and much better.
