Don't go here
my first mistake was taking my 2 year old daughter to see Rose Magno, this was her first dentist appointment and at this visit she told me that my daughter needed head gear immediately to correct the alignment of her jaw. Yes a 2 year old child. Right then I knew I needed a second opinion. When I took my daughter to another dentist he told me that head gear would never be put on a child that young, head gear is something that would be given to a child at least 10yrs or older and that Rose Magno was not a pediatric dentist and should not have suggested that as a form of treatment this early.
I rate Rose Magno and Emeryville Dental Unsatisfactory

Worth Every Penny! Emeryville Dental
I truly enjoy coming here & Ive been coming here for years. I like how honest and caring the staff & Dentist are. I like that they have many technologies & new techniques they have in their armamentarium to use on my mouth, which seems to be always upgraded every year. I like that I only pay 20% and my insurance pays for 80% of my dental work. I didnt like it that my insurance only covered 80% up to the cost of my silver fillings and metal crowns (which was far less costly), instead of covering 80% of my white fillings and white crowns (which is about twice more), but the staff was upfront and let me know that before I went ahead and did the work. I liked it so much, that I replaced all of my silver fillings and metal crowns to the white fillings and white crowns. I sent my mom here and she had her dentures remade and she said it was the "best set of teeth I ever had". She said she paid a little bit more but at least now her teeth looks real and natural. She even calls it teeth now instead of dentures. I like that they made her feel happy and made her feel like smiling again. I like that this office is ahead of the pack in cosmetic work and lets me know whats possible. I like to know what is possible, how I can make things better, how I can take care of my teeth better, etc. and I like how things are recommended to me and the choices that are given to me. I like that they spend quality time on me and Im just not a number. I trust their judgment and would not go elsewhere for that value. I like the Doctors sense of humor, warmth, good karma, & expertise. As a treat, the Dentist is also beautiful outside, as well as inside. Worth every penny!

Worst Dentist Ever!!!
I have never been more disappointed with a dentist in my entire life. Dont go here!! They charge you at least 20% more than any other dentist, and they do work on you that DOES NOT NEED TO BE DONE!! Not only did I have a horrible experience here, but many others have as well. They try to sell you everything in the book...from the Rotodent, for $200, to unnecessary invisalign braces costing upwards of $10,000. Also, they lie to you and tell you that the normal recovery time is far less than what it actually is...I had an important event that was planned for over a year...they told me that the pain from removing my wisdom teeth would take between 3 - 5 days, however, it took 2 weeks!! I was miserable for the event, and if they would have been straight forward with me, it never would have happened. When i wised up and realized they were screwing me over, I switched dentists and they charged me $55 dollars to make copies of my records!!! Please, for your own sake, do not go to Emeryville Dental Care!!

#1-Dr Alfred delaCruz was the one who pulled your wisdom teeth & he says that he had told you that normal healing is within a week or so unless you have a immune problem. He could not have promised you an exact healing time, since everybody heals& recovers at a different rate.If you smoked (&other DoNotDo's during this healing phase) which you were told not to do,then this would've caused you problems or had a longer recovery time.# 2-Your insurance said they'd cover up to 20% of your basic services& they could pay more or less. There was never a guarantee of pymt from your INS co.& this was explained to you.# 3- We ONLY did work that YOU WANTED.# 4 We DO NOT charge those fees you've written on this net.# 5 We would post all of these agreements & consents that you have signed to prove that what you had written here are false, however, we will not. Best Regards in LA. www.EmeryvilleDental.com Emeryville Dental Care

I went expecting the worst. but I was pleasantly surprised! The whole staff thoroughly explains work to be done. insurance. and cost in detail. Indepth & extensive exam highly appreciated. Ambience& caring atmosphere.I like the personalized attention.I just got my wisdoms taken out & it was not as traumatizing as I thought it would be either. I'm very pleased with this office. My co-workers commend this office too.

Great Experience.Simply Wonderful Dentist at Emeryville, California
I am very phobic, as a patient & a very suspicious person, in general. I just thought Dr Rose Magno was very real, very honest (& I can smell crooks a mile a way, & Dr Magno is not), She told me like it was & spent alot of time going over my needs & wants. I never had a great experience with a dentist before. Very gentle, Very caring (& I can tell she's very genuine). I had all my black fillings replaced, had my gaps fixed, & other cosmetic work done here over the course of 8 years that I've been at this office. I'm very excited and happy that I got it done. I should have done this before, but I never met Dr Magno before. Also, my daughter had her wisdom teeth removed, came out unscathed & had invisaligns done to straighten out her teeth. We have been Dr Magno's patient for almost 8 years now and we highly recommend her office at Emeryville Dental Care in Emeryville, California.

I Highly Recommend this Dental Office! Great Experience
I've been going to this dental office off & on (because I move alot & travel all over the world for my job) for the last 10 years & there's no comparison.Very GOOD, Very HONEST.Very THOROUGH. Very KNOWLEDGEABLE, QUALITY thru & thru. The dentist understands & knows her job.You can tell that this place is not an insurance run mill-house dental office.THEY CONCENTRATE ON YOU as a patient! & not overly concerned with what the insurance company dictates to their patients, that's not their job! They know what needs to be done& they make sure to follow thru.If that's your definition of pushy, then they are.But I'm a HAPPY patient here & I've been everywhere else. This IS the dental office I recommend to ALL!

Simply The BEST
I AM VERY PLEASE WITH THIS OFFICE. I dont know what these other reviewers are yelping about, but I AM VERY HAPPY with their work & staffs. Nothing Fishy Here. Everything (Insurance, Cost, Work to be done) is explained (actually I think it's over explained- which should be reserved for clueless people which some of these other reviewers seem to be). This office is personalized. They are not a mill factory like those preferred provider dental offices that my insurance company recommended to me or was sending me to, cheaper maybe but the quality is questionable. I believe Dr Magno & her staff are more passionate and more detailed oriented - more quality oriented about their dental work than most other dental offices I've been to in the past 30 years. I believe Dr Magno loves her job & cares about her patients dental health so she may seem to over emphasize getting treatment done asap,etc... I have been coming to this dental office for over 5 years and I have observed over the years other patients that were coming in the office who were saying (& had said) the same thing; Dr Magno is very passionate about her work, very caring, very personable, very quality oriented, very detailed oriented, etc... Anyways, I only went to this site to say;
I finally got my new smile & I LOVE MY NEW SMILE! I ASKED FOR IT & I GOT IT! + MORE THAN MY EXPECTATIONS. DR MAGNO IS THE BEST!
Everything is explained too well right from the beginning & is in writing. (which I dont think some of these reviewers didnt do, it's all in writing folks, you just have to read!) HONEST staffs & Dr is all I got. VERY THOROUGH! They dont miss a beat when it comes to the health of my teeth. Case in point: They wouldn't let me start my thousands of dollars of dental work until I got my gums back to health 1st. THEY CARE MORE ABOUT MY HEALTHY GUMS & TEETH 1st BEFORE MONEY. HELLO! I have EXPERIENCED THE DIFFERENCE! THANKS AGAIN to DR MAGNO & her staff. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE TO EVERYONE!

something fishy
A clean, modern office with a pleasant staff but I had a weird feeling from the moment I got to the office. I had an initial visit and was told I had to have a dozen cavities filled, deep cleanings, the works.... besides me, the office was empty - it felt like my bills would be paying for the space. It's been reassuring to see the other reviews on this site from people who got the same vibe that I did... I will not be going back!

Dear Patient

If you had previously gone to a retiring dentist, or a non-PAC-LIVE dentist, a non LVI dentist, a dentist that likes watching cavities grow, a dentist who only take the minimal continuing education classes to update and upgrade themselves, or a non proactive dentist, then you and others like you may have been surprised how thorough your exam was.You may have been use to a 10 minute exam or a 5 minute Dentist quick look with the hygienist, but we do not do that here. We complete a thorough exam, unless you only want emergency tooth/teeth taken care of, which can last up to an hour and a half depending on what the Dentist finds. We at Emeryville Dental Care are not tooth doctors, but Doctors of the Mouth .We look over not only tooth, but also, oral cancer, jaw problems, alignment problems, gum disease, and look for other causes of migraine headaches, sinus problems, etc..all that relate to the health of your mouth and jaw. We also use many special tools to find these issues. We constantly update our mode of equipment to assist us in finding mouth problems. Please note that the office was probably empty since you had come during our xmas break.
BEWARE UNETHICAL DENTIST!!
Please do not use Rose Magno. I made this mistake. She claimed my son had five cavities. I took him to two other dentists for second opinions. Both examined my son thoroughly and found no cavities!! She did work on me that my insurance did not cover, but did not explain my options before starting the procedures. I can't say that she forced me, but she certainly did not tell me how much the procedures would cost. I have excellent insurance and ended up paying thousands out of pocket! Dr. Magno invents reasons to drill your teeth and empty your pockets!

If the Doctor says your son has 5 cavities, then that is so.See comments above. Here, the Doctor treats you on what you need, not want your insurance company or an insurance run dental office deems fit for their budget. It is not the Doctor's responsibility to circumvent around that and we will not lower our standards because of it.The options were explained to you, your insurance benefits,& estimated insurance payments were explained to you.You signed the disclosures that acknowledges this. It's Doctor's responsibility to let you know the best possible treatment & alternatives if you can't finance the best. Also,We don't need to make up cavities, there are plenty out there already. We're just here to fix it and take care of those problems. That is our responsibility.
"Your Smile Starts Here...Experience the Difference!"www.EmeryvilleDental.c
In defense of our office, I have been working here since 1999 & have known the Doctor since then.
The Doctors DO NOT diagnose patients unless they need the treatment or if the patients want cosmetic work (which we are known for).Work /Treatment is recommended, the patients are given their options, cost is explained,& it is up to the patients to decide what treatment is best for them.We recommend what is good & best for the patient. If patient's finances can afford it, great. If not, other alternatives are explained.Nothing is ever forced upon anyone.
A full set of x-rays do not cost over $200. Our full set of x-rays are at least 14 to 18 x-rays where many other offices do not offer this. Duplicate x-rays costs & the cost is passed onto the patients.
It is also disclosed to all of our patients that our office is NOT an insurance run dental office. We treat the patients & NOT what the insurance dictates or wants. We are NOT members of any insurance companies for this reason, however,we help facilitate & ensure the patients get the most of their insurance benefits paid for them. The only reason we would bill the patients' insurance more than once is when the insurance company would say they never received our claims. We bill the insurance companies more than 3 different ways to ensure that they receive the patient's claim & is paid on time.We are not anti-insurance.We have many patients who have Delta Dental, Aetna, Cigna, BlueCross, Principal Financial, etc.. & are utilizing their dental benefits at our office.
NEVER, have we EVER, charged for work we have NEVER done.
We will charge for work we do &that is only fair.
You will get your money's worth & more.We spend quality time with our patients & we use high quality materials. You will pay for the knowledge & expertise that is above & beyond the "drill & fill dentists".
When you walk in the door, you will see possibilities that is beyond what the "average" dentist can do.We are proud to show this.
We don't believe in watching cavities grow & thrive. We believe in prevention & taking care of problems BEFORE it becomes bigger & cost the patient more in the long run.
FYI: Deep cleaning aka: Root Planing aka: Subgingival Curettage is more involved for those who need it (bleeding gums, gum pockets over 4 mm's, pus, permanent bone loss, etc..).There are 4 sides to a person's mouth, so when the Root Planing is completed it is billed 4 different times for the 4 different sides; upper right, lower right, upper left, lower left. All dentists do this and bill as such.
We offer many other procedures that have to be referred to specialist by other dental offices because it is not in their realm of knowledge. Many possibilities can be done here that only others can imagine. Give our office a call and give us a try (510) 595-1900. www.EmeryvilleDental.com

Dont go here
I've also had a bad billing and dentist "recommendation" experience here.
When I went in for the first time I was told that I needed several procedures done. They also insisted that I needed to get a full oral x-ray done which they later charged me more than 200 dollars for. When I changed to another dentist and asked them for copies they wanted to charge me $60.
The dentist definitely is trying to make a lucrative business out of her practice. It is evident from the moment you walk in and find yourself emersed in what seems like a tv ad for teeth whitening, etc.
Billing with my insurance company was also a mess. They charged me for procedures that were never done and and on top of that -- their prices, compared to other dentist in the area, are super high.
I would not recomment this dentist to anyone that I know.
PROS: clean office

1)Miscommunications decreases when listening is 1sided.2)We can't tell what's happening in a person's mouth w/ only 1 to 4 xrays. We need xrays of the whole mouth to be able to diagnose properly.Just like u cant tell what a person looks like just by taking a picture of the eyes, nose&ears. In fact,we don't do any work or give a definitive answer w/o at least 1 xray in an emergency3)Also we didnt charge u for a complete set of xrays as a special intro,so u cannot expect to get it for free to use in other dental offcs.4)Our offc is not a mediocre dental ofc,so u can expect possibilities to happen5)We preauthorized ur dental trmt,it doesnt mean we did the work.Dont confuse preauths w/ actual trmt.6)We dont do mediocre work,we spend quality time&go beyond what's basic, therefore we must be compensated in order to continue this tradition7)Our dental "business" must be based on honesty, otherwise, our business doesn't thrive. We've been in business& thriving for over 10 yrs,so we must be doing something right. Our offc relationships are from word of mouth&many of our best pts have referred us to their friends&families. We take pride in that.Thank u for ur feedback.
Emeryville Dental drills your wallet for Cash
The first thing you notice when you walk in the door is a TV monitor with a video tape loop selling teeth whitening services.
They seem to be a very modern place, with good equipment, and friendly, people. But I got a feeling that something wasnt right.
I ended up with way more dental work than I thought I'd have. But, they argued, "What are you going to do, look around for a second opinion, until you get one that you like?", and "You can do it now, or you can get the whole root canal later".
The work they did was good, but I'll never know for sure if every service was necessary.
When the bills came, I noticed I was being invoiced for things they had already billed by Dental Insurance for. That practice continued - and the receipts from Delta Dental showed they had billed them using different procedure codes than the ones they had billed me for.
Eventually they said that they were dropping Delta Dental because they were slow to pay. I Called Delta and they said they were getting the same compaint from several people, and that Delta had dropped them!
In their defense, this was a few years ago - maybe they've cleaned up their act by now. I hope so.
PROS: Good Equipment, Friendly People
CONS: Pushed Services, Double Billing, Confusion about Payments

Your Smile Starts Here..& We Truly Believe That

We can Fix what seems impossible. We're here to give u ideas that u never thought of,a smile that u've been dreaming about or wanting for a long time&didnt think could happen. We can make ur teeth look&feel better, dentures to look natural, etc. There was a black out the day u came&it looped the TVmonitor. That dental info video also talked about how to properly brush, floss,& other good things.Your talk w/ 1 of our staffs about getting a 2nd opinion was taken out of context which cannot be discussed in this forum. So we'll just say,it wasn't like that.Your ins didnt pay for certain procedures since they claim they didnt recognize it.So we rebilled it for them.Hence,it appeared that we were double billing but we were not. Also we bill ins co in many different formats;by mail,by fax,by phone, etc.so they can't say we didnt send the claim. They'll see it more than once&their claims read"this is a duplicate claim"&wont be paid.We have many Delta pts in our offc who choose quality.Delta tells them to go elsewhere so they can dictate their trmt to a Delta dentist. They cant do this to us.We look out for our pt's best interest.
not happy
I went to this dentist twice. What a mistake. First of all, my two appoinments were at 1 and the dentist arrived 10 minutes late. Then she said I needed to get a "deep cleaning" done, and I needed to come back to finish it in another session. The procedure was ok, but when I got my delta dental papers in the mail, I saw that she charged them twice for the same procedure for both times I went in. My co-worker who went to her also said she recommended "deep cleaning" so she could charge the insurance more. Not professional.

Do You Know the Difference Between Deep Root Cleaning & Regular Cleaning?
Posted at: 11/26/07
We apologize for not being able to communicate with you, the difference between Deep root cleaning& regular cleaning.Again,You have Periodontal Disease. This is the reason you needed Root Cleaning. You have 4 sides to your mouth Upper Right (UR),Lower Right(LR),Upper Left(UL),&Lower Left (LL).The billing code is the same for all sides, but they are different parts of the mouth. When all 4 sides are completed, then your cleaning is considered complete. This is not a one time treatment. It must be done every 1-2 yrs.Thank you to insiderpages.com for letting us finally respond to these gripes online, since you understand there is always 2 sides to every story. There was another complainer on here that complained that her fiance spent money on his dental work, but she wasn't aware that he cashed our ins ck that was meant for our office, hence he was billed finance charges&billing charges. On his chart he said many good things about our office, but when she took over his finances,to save face,he told her he didnt know what the charges were&he (James S)didn't know why we were billing him &had to leave our office because of her (Irene S).
