Bad Feeling 
I took my car in because it was starting to overheat, and smoke was coming out. Because I was crunched for time and worried about not being able to get my car to my other mechanic's location, I agreed to pay the $250 for diagnostic tests on the engine and cooling system (since as the seemingly helpful Andrew pointed out, this cost would be applied to any repairs needed). My final cost was close to $700 to have two coolant bypass hoses and two belts replaced and an oil change and brake fluid flush. Since I got my car back three days ago it has been stalling continuously and the Check Engine light also keeps going on and off (it came on during their road test of my vehicle- as I was paying them - they did a test and said the car would need more expensive repairs to pass its upcoming smog test). My car is older, so I expect a certain amount of repairs, BUT I don't expect: the Check Engine light to START coming on AFTER my car is "fixed," the car to tremble as I drive it (and especially when idling - it ran smooth before I took it in), the car's stalling to be MUCH worse (not just on cold mornings) after it is "fixed." I gave them two stars instead of one because the car's no longer overheating - but I don't trust them, and won't be taking my car back there. In hindsight I should have paid attention to the post about the same rave reviews being posted on multiple sites.

OVERPRICED! 
Don't know who these other poor saps are reviewing, but these guys are WAY OVERPRICED. Charged $125 to diagnose my car, claimed battery price was $98 plus 25-35 labor charge. Pep boys was $70 to diagnose to give you an idea of how overpriced that is, and even better Art's Automotive charged $46 to diagnose! and the battery cost was $70 NOT $98. LAME. They should really know better with as many competitors as there are here in Berkeley. And the people over at Art's smile a lot too.

Berkeley's best kept secret
We used to take our car to either a dealership or some big fancy auto shop for service, but not anymore, they are just too expensive. We just recently moved to the bay area and a friend of ours recommended Car Care Service. Initially, when we drove up we were not very impressed with the shop, it looked so small from the street, but once inside we could see numerous cars out back where we learned there were three lifts in addition to the lift right inside the door. The technician on duty was nice enough to take a look at our car right there on the spot, and explain to us what would be done if we decided to service our car there. He made us feel very comfortable and so we decided to give them a try. WOW! They did such a great job and at such a fair price, they even got rid of a rattling noise that had been driving us nuts for months and no one else could ever seem to fix. Just goes to show that you really can't judge a book by it cover. Exceptional workmanship, knowledgable staff and more than fair prices..that says it all..in one little nutshell.

Best in town
I have been living in Alameda for quite awhile and was very satisfied with my mechanic, unfortunately he decided after many years of service that it was time to retire and move to Florida so he sold his shop. Great for him, stressful for me and other clients. Lucky for me I stumbled across Car Care Service. A bit apprehensive, I decided to give them a try and it paid off big time. Not only did they win me over by doing a great job on my car, but they treated me so kindly and knowing I had just lost my longtime mechanic they really made me feel comfortable and confident that they would take great care of me and my car and they have ever since. I even recommended them to some of the folks that used my old mechanic and their experiences have been all good. Thanks Car Care Service.

Fast Friendly Service
brought car into this shop, had been to my mechanic for the same problem he was not able to repair my car, they diagnosed my car and reported back to me the same day the manager was very helpful and walked me stage by stage in the way they were going to repair my car ,,,,they are my new mechanics from now on .....Neil

Good deals for auto service in Berkeley
I found Dons to be customer friendly with mechancis and service managers being knowledgable and articulate when explaining technical issues. Their prices are competive and their service is impeccable right down to the free loaner car while yours is in the shop.
