We went here a couple of years ago. We were initially put with a guide, however, for whatever reason the guide left and we actually lost the way back. I would think that if you were not a good rider it would be a little scary.

I rented a horse from this place one time back in the late 90s. There was no guide. I went riding with a couple of other people I did not know who took off once we reached the river bed and left me to ride alone. I was new to riding then and was very concerned and somewhat afraid to be out there in the river bed all by myself. It was getting dark and I had no idea how to get back to the area where the horses are kept. It was getting dark and I was worried that nobody would come looking for me. Finally, I just eased up on the reins and the horse headed for "home" on his own. It was a frightening experience for a new horseback rider. I think they should pay guides who know the river bed to head up the groups of people going out on these rides. I would have gladly tipped someone handsomely who would have made the group stay together and bring us all safely home. I also know that there are areas of the river bed that have quicksand but didn't know where those areas were. The safety of the horses and humans should come first and if it means hiring people to be guides, then that's what they should do. Most people who rent these horses don't have a lot of riding experience. They need to take that into consideration and provide guides.
