BEWARE - they are the worst kind of vets - they killed my 10 year dog with their stupidity. I will regret bringing my dog to this awful place for the rest of my life. If you love your pets - take them somewhere else.

Dr Naidus HAS LEFT Animal Medical Center. He is now working at a fantastic hospital in Santee named Cuyamaca Animal Hospital. You will find the reviews of his NEW hospital to be completely OPPOSITE of those at AMC. Please DO NOT ASSOCIATE Dr Naidus with the reviews of his OLD hospital. He is a gifted doctor and is thriving in his new environment at Cuyamaca Animal Hospital. Thanks!

I had such a bad experience there. Like many of the people who posted here already, I'd taken my pets to Broadway Animal Hospital in the past and never had a problem. Then, when my cat developed asthema, I called the old number not knowing it was no longer there. I guess they had the phone number switched over to AMC, because someone answered and said it was still the same veterinary clinic, and that they just moved into a new facility. This false info. is what caused me to got there w/o checking it out first. I wish I'd read these reviews first!

I had my friend's daughter w/ me when I went to pick up my cat's prescription on Thursday. As we made our way to sit down on some vacant seats (yes, you have to sign in, then wait to just pick up a prescription), a dog we walked past lunged forward and bit my friend's 5-year-old daughter. Some of the workers looked over, but quickly went back to their work. None of the staff came until another customer came over to help us. My friend's daughter was very traumatized and was crying. I honestly thought the best thing was to get the little girl home ASAP and that her parents or I could call later to find out if the dog had rabies, was sick, etc.

Believe it or not, they wouldn't release ANY info. about the dog, even when her parents called. I couldn't believe it. I feel so guilty about the whole thing, I've been literally sick. I called and requested to talk to someone in management, because I wanted to know why they couldn't just assure her parents that the dog didn't have rabies, I was told they were bound by privacy laws. I know human medical records are privilaged, do they really think that extends to animals that have bitten people?

They can have the best vets in the whole world there, and I will never go back.

I took my cat here and all they wanted to do was run up extremely LARGE vet bills. Wanted me to take my very sick and weak cat to an oncologist for treatment. I explained to them that I didn't feel she could handle that kind of treatment. The staff and the doctor's made me feel like I wasn't willing to do whatever it took to make my cat better. That is far from the TRUTH.

They make you feel like you are just a number. The wait to see a vet is extremely long and once you have seen a vet it takes another long time to check out.

I would never refer even my worse enemy to take their animal to this facility.

I too took my dog here to be looked at as he was hacking & coughing a lot. I inherited this dog when the previous owner left to move to another state & they had been using this vet, so I figured, what they hey. I love this dog like family. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! They not only kept me waiting past my appointment, but then wanted to keep him over night. I had called the night before & asked about payment arrangements. They assured me that they do payments. What they DON"T tell you is that they have to run a credit check on you first, see if you "qualify" & if not then they set you up on the plan. The downside is that they want HALF the bill upfront & then you can make payments on the balance. We left our dog over night after paying half the bill upfront. My daughter went the next day to get our dog & they told her that they wanted the rest of the money or she could not take the dog. I was livid! I called them & told them to give my daughter our dog or I was calling a lawyer & then the news stations. THIS PLACE IS THE WORST FOR SERVICE & FRONT DESK HELP. Their only interest is the MONEY. Go elsewhere. I know I am.

I took my dog to this place when it was the old converted trailers and for quite awhile after the new building opened. I liked it alot more when it was just trailers, the place was small, but people knew what they were doing. At the new place it has been down hill. Incompetent front end staff. They stand around talking and don't even acknowledge I'm standing there. I had appointments, but every time would have to wait an hour anyway. It was awful. Trying to check out and pay the bill, another wait due to incompetence. No one appears to be in charge or supervising or training the front staff. Makes me fearful for what goes on behind the scenes. I never had a problem with the Vets, but toward the end the techs would tell me the Vets are too busy and the tech would be the one administering treatment to my dog when I took him in when he was sick throwing up, etc. The tech couldn't answer my questions. After several more occassions like that, where a tech was doing the treatment and I felt more uncomfortable with the outcome, along with the fact that the service never ever improved, I evenutally decided to leave this place. I think the final straw was when I left him there to board for 3 nights and upon picking up my dog, he was sick, the front end staff says he might have "kennel cough" the Vet said it wasn't kennel cough. but my dog was sick and they wouldn't treat him without payment, he wasn't sick when I left him there. I think the kennel was cold, my dog is an indoor dog and not used to the cold. I just felt like they had all kinds of excuses and techs and customer service trainees should not be making diagnoses and treatment decisions...they are not Vets. I asked for and did get copies of my dog's chart from AMC and have since moved to a different Vet. It is very sad that the owner cannot spend the money to get a qualified supervisor to manage the front end staff; or doesn't choose to hire qualified support staff. No matter how good the Vet may be, if techs are running the place, and untrained people are answering DR level questions, bad news. Everyone I know who has taken their animals there has bailed out of there, it has a bad reputation. Be Careful. Don't let a tech make a decision about your pet's care. That review about the bunny's back being broken is exactly what I am talking about. This place is a factory staffed with stupidity.

I have taken my pets to Animal Medical Center and have only and always been helped to the up most, My small pet ate a tack and had to have an emergency surgury and went into surgury and out in a moments notice. My little muggles was saved and the cost was so dueable. the Dr. was very friendly and very concerned about my pet. You will see other reports of good use, and some bad review far and few between. Owners need to make sure they are careful about throwning there comments out there and atacking a Hospital that only puts out there best each and everyday 24 hours a day. Everyone that works there works hard and long hours, the owners think only of serving their community to the upmost. During the fires 2 years ago the Hospital opened its doors for anyone in trouble and took NO PAYMENT only donations. There have been people at that hospital for years serving our community and pets for years. I give this place nothing but full 5 stars you can count on anyone there always.

We had to put our bunny down! So upsetting!
"Animal Medical Center" aka: A.M.C
Sept 11, 2008, My husband brought in our Rabbit, as she had wax built up in her left ear.
At first the check in person said: I don't think we have anyone that can work on bunny's today, she said she would go to the back and check. She came back and said we have someone. So later the Vet told my husband they would have to sedate our rabbit in order to clean her ear out. ( which we already knew) as there's no way you could get all the wax out and do a ear flush on our rabbit. She would be mad at definetly not sit still. They took her in her carry cage to the back, and they returned her in her to my husband in her carry cage. The bunny was panting very heavy, and I was afraid she may have a heart attack, as she was breathing so rapidily. We kept her room quite and I closed the blinds to get her to rest. My husband said, He's concerned about her back legs he said she's not using them, I thought it was from the sedation. We let her rest and she still wasn't moving her legs and I touched them and she didn't move them... I called the vet's office and spoke to a front office person and I asked if it was normal to not move legs after sedation. They said: No. I said she's not moving her legs at all, we we're just in today she was sedated and had her ear drained, She advised to bring bunny back into office.
I brought bunny back and was told after x-rays the bunny's back/spine is broken! OMG! AWFUL!!! SO UPSETTING!!! I asked how this could of happened to her?? A few of the girls who we're in and out, said, they don't know, but she left here fine! OMG! These individuals we're saying that to me that never even saw the bunny, or worked on her! Then the news comes.. I asked the Vet how they did the procedure. The Vet told me that the Tech (shelly) wrapped the bunny up tight in a towel and they didn't have to sedate the bunny. That the Tech(Shelly) held the bunny down while the procedure was performed! The bunny had an ear full of wax and ended up having ear mites, they had to do a ear flush and treat the mites. I said: My husband was told the bunny was getting sedated. The vet said: The tech was able to wrap her up in the towel and we didn't have to use sedation, the vet said your bunny held really still, and that she was actually surprised how still she stayed for them! OMG!!! Ya because you broke her back hold her down!!! AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL thing to go through...
The Vet said they would refund all of our money for the procedures done earlier on the bunny. At that if we put her down she would do it for us. The Vet did feel bad, and said if you want time with her tonight she understands, and that she's off tomorrow, but will come in to be there for us and the bunny to have her put down etc...
The next morning we couldn't even bring our bunny back there again. It made us sick, it took hours and hours, and we took her to a different Vet to have her put down. We we're to disgusted with this Vet office.
NEVER TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!!

We use to go to Broadway Animal Hospital, in fact we've brought our animals there for over 20 years, then we moved over to the new facility when some of the doctors left Broadway Animal Hospital to start a new location called "Animal Medical Center".

WE "WE'RE" LOYAL CUSTOMERS FOR "OVER 20 YEARS" WITH OUR DOGS, CATS, RABBITS ETC....
WE'LL NEVER GO BACK !!!! THEY SHOULD OF TOLD US THEY DIDN'T HAVE SOMEONE THERE THAT DAY THAT "SPECIALIZED" IN HANDLING BUNNIES!!! YOU CAN'T HOLD A RABBIT DOWN, PUTTING PRESSURE ON THEIR SPINES!!! THEIR BACKS ARE FRAGILE! THIS USE TO BE A GREAT PLACE TO TAKE ANIMALS TOO.. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENED OVER THERE BUT THEIR NOT GOOD ANYMORE!!!!

our dog went to this hospital and never came home.
She was a part of our family and our children miss her very much.
The answer I got was "if I knew she was going to die I would of watched her
closer" this was said by the owner. by the way his wife is terrible to.
Our dog had a sore between her toes that would not heal.
after years of trying different antibiotics another vet said that her thyroid was
low. After a couple of days on low dose thyroid meds her sores healed immediately.
The only good Dr. there was Dr. Hyatt.
I went to pick her up frozen from their hospital and it was raining for a week here.
Frozen I carried her body to my car in the rain and the girl at the front desk would not release her body me for burial until I paid her 25 dollars that the owner told me I could pay later for.
Our dog was not ready to die. They are negligent and need to be accountable for there errors.
They were expensive and did experimental tests on her with years of different antibiotics which none worked.
I spent lots of money here. Save your money and go some where else.

The problems began when they became a big hospital. After they just built the new hospital, I had an appt there. I just thought things were crazy because they were new and still trying to get their bearings. But after several visits over several years, I see nothing has changed. Every time, as I've sat there waiting to be called I've watched the front office staff not know what's going on - they are totally unorganized and have no customer skills whatsoever. Some I've even seen are scared to attempt to talk to a client. It's a circus. They definitely need to get a new client manager. If it weren't for Dr.Hampel's surgical expertise I wouldn't go there at all. Back in the day, when they were small, it was not like this. Too bad.

We have been going to AMC for over 3 years, it started off okay. Then they moved to a new facility and got too busy. My dog went there today for a check up, they are out of the medicine she needs and won't get it in for a week. We could have taken her to a different vet to get her medicine and now have to wait a week while she is out. They also often get our dogs medical records mixed up with one another and I hate how they don't offer appointments any longer. They also failed to mention that she was due for more shots so she will have to go back again to get them. There have also been other problems such as a lost sample. The facility looks great but it is all for show. Go somewhere else.

I took my dog here to get spayed and everything went normal as expected. But when i returned to have her stitches taken out she was so scared i had to carry her in and then once in the door she shaked uncontrollably and peed all over herself. Ive never seen an animal act like this before. I expected her to be a little scared but not to the point she peed on herself. There is no reason a dog should be that afraid to go to the vets office. We now take her to a different vet and she doesnt act like that anymore.

During my two years with Animal Medical Center, I have had nothng but poor service with them, mainly the front office. Never once has their vaccination records been accurate.

The final blow came last year when I phoned them from our summer home in Vermont asking them to fax me a copy of one of my cat's rabies vaccination. Unfortunately, our cat had bitten a groomer and her arm became infected and she requested a copy of a rabies vaccination. I was told he never received a vaccination. How embarrasing to call the groomer and tell her that false information. Therefore, I had to take him to a vet in Vermont for a rabies vaccination. When I returned home to El Cajon, CA I found in my records that he had a rabies vaccination in January of last year. He then had to see the vet for an eye problem. They did blood work on him and gave him an antibiotic. At that time they told my husband that he would get his rabies vaccination when he returned for his recheck. I told my husband NO. Unfortunately, my husband forgot, and the fax which I sent to their office about receiving a vaccination in VT because of their incompetence was put in the wrong chart and the vet gave him another rabies vaccination. Also I was told there was no charge for rechecks, but Dr. McDonald charged us and when I called the answer was some doctors charge and some do not. I have filed a complaint with the Dept. of Veterinarian Medicine who will be investigating, and I will be suring them upon my return from Vermont.

I have filed a complaint with the Dept. of Veterinarian Medicine who will be investigating, and I will be suring them upon my return from Vermont.

I came to have my animal spayed and it seemed like I was inconveniencing them by bringing her in! Then I was told I would get a call in the afternoon (I dropped my dog off at 8:30) when she was awake. At 5:30 I had to call them to find out she just went into surgery. They told me they always do spays in the evening. Well, then why was I told I would be called in the afternoon?? I never received a call about her condition and I had to call the next morning to find out she was done. This business looks good on the outside, but they should have spent their money on better customer service. If I didn't have to take my dog there because the rescue organization said I had to then I would never bring an animal there!I had the same experience from them when my dog was being boarded there before I adopted her. They had no idea who she was! It took 4 people to figure it out!Looks are deceiving! Don't bring your animal there for shots! You won't even get to go back with your animal to watch them give the shots! If you are having an emergency there is a fabulous place in La Mesa on Jackson. Go there!

We boarded our little Maltese at this facility for 5 days and had a really bad experience. Our dog was clean, healthy, lively and alert when he went in, (and was current on all his shots and vaccinations), but when we picked him up, he was dehydrated, listless, dirty, and suffering from acute diarrhea. He also seemed underfed. Everyone we came into contact with, as far as the boarding aspect of this business is concerned, was amateurish, disorganized and unprofessional.

First, when we went to pick our dog up, the attendant didn't seem to know anything about it and couldn't find his paperwork. This after calling them in the morning and telling them we'd be there in the afternoon. That in itself was rather alarming, but it only gets worse from there. After he fumbled around and talked to a couple of people, they finally found our dog. As soon as he was brought out, it was clear that he was dirty and listless. This is when the guy told us our dog was entitled to a free bath due to the length of time he was boarded there, and that he should have been bathed before we picked him up. This was the first we heard of any of this. They didn't bother to inform us about the free bath when we booked him in. Finally we were overcharged by one night. I discovered this later, and was told we would be given a "credit" on our account. I'll probably go back there and get my money, because I can't imagine a scenario in which I would bring my dog back to this place. Our dog's name is Jack. The staff there referred to him as Crazy Jack, though I wasn't able to determine why.

While the building itself is new, clean, and visually appealing, there is a certain degree of chaos and disorganization that seems to permeate the place. I have heard very good things about the vets at this center, and I believe they are good. But the boarding apect is horrible.

A final note. I emailed the Animal Medical Center of East County and relayed to them the issues I've outlined above.

I never received a reply.

I have been to this facility 3 times. One time, I waited for 1 1/2 hours for my dog to have one shot. Another time, I waited almost an hour to pick my dogs up from being boarded. Choose another place to go if you can!

I have only had the pleasure of using this animal hospital once but I got a very good feeling just this once. Their staff is very caring and concerned. Their prices are within the normal range, which with any place, is sometimes shocking. The reception area is very tidy and clean.

PROS: caring staff, good enough prices
CONS:
