I recently had a cast on my arm and wrist and had a difficult time maneuvering the cart through the very crowded store. Without being asked, a manager offered to have a clerk accompany me as I shopped, pushing the cart and collecting the items I wanted from the shelves. AN ABSOLUTE LIFESAVER! The young man who assisted me was pleasant and patient as I compared prices and brands. This service was above and beyond anything I'd experienced at any other store in the 11 weeks I was in that cast. At the time, I was not a "regular' customer at the Los Gatos store - just a customer in need. But rest assured that I have shopped there whenever possible since that first awkward day and will continue to do so.

I purchased a carton of Ice Cream from Nob Hill Foods Store, Los Gatos, California, Los Gatos Boulevard, and Los Gatos Almaden Road. When I got it home I discovered that it tasted very bad. It had a bitter flavor. When I went back to return it from the same store I purchased it from, Terry, the Manager, told me that they cannot accept returns without a receipt. So I went home and got the receipt. Then she said she couldn??t accept the return because when she looked at it she said it looked fine. When I told her it tasted badly, she said we couldn??t cater to your tastes. We are not here to serve you. We cannot return it for credit and we will loose money on it. She said this in a very loud voice so all the people around me could here. I was very embarrassed. Every time I go to that store, the managers give me the feeling that I am not good enough to complain about anything. If they are out of a sale Item, I am always mistaken and they try to prove me wrong. They try to humiliate me and say it is on the shelf I must have missed it. If I insist they make me wait 10 minutes while someone searches the shelves, the back of the store, the refrigerator or the freezer, just to prove me wrong. When they finally get back to the front they say, yes we are out. Like, oh well too bad. If I want a rain check I have to wait another five minutes while they find the pad and make a big deal out of it. Most Safeway stores will bend over backwards to make you happy. They will give you a substitute at the same sale price. Or write a rain check on the spot. No questions asked. I feel like they want my business. Since Raley's took over Nob Hill it is not the same. They were once the models of customer service, the gold standard of fine quality grocery stores. It was a pleasure to shop there. I am sad to say that that is no longer the case. As reinforced by many similar experiences, I am very dissatisfied with the service as represented by the Managers of the Nob Hill Foods Store, in Los Gatos, at Los Gatos Blvd and Los Gatos Almaden Road. What really saddens me is that many of the long time Nob Hill employees, who are not managers, really are good, and try to serve you despite their Managers. But they are defeated by a management that puts profit ahead of good customer relations, and prove that, by hiring managers who also put rules and profit ahead of customer service.
