Tokyo Go-Go shines by keeping its menu fresh, creating dishes that show off the best available ingredients. One of the best things Park has added is the selection of specialty sashimi ($12 for one type of preparation/$33 for three), which comes on a three-tiered stand of the sort used for afternoon tea. It's elaborate, but so are the flavors. -San Francisco Chronicle 4/05

The sushi was mediocre. If you like sushi because of the cool restaurants that serve the food and not actually for the food then this place is for you. Super trendy and only moderately tasty

Great sushi, hip decor, and mellow ambiance. They recently changed their menu, so if you don't see it listed be sure to try the "Tokyo Crunch" roll. Very tasty.

Great Place
by Yuriy
Went there last night first time after searching citysearch on good place to hangout. Tokyo Go Go didn't disappoint.
Great atmosphere, great service.
Food maybe not the best sushi i had, but they above average. Every dish we had, had something unique about it.
Definitely recommend this place

Great gimmicky sushi and girlie drinks
by sherrywt
I got scared the buhgeeze out of eating raw fish after a lifetime of guzzling authentic and raw nigiri zushi a couple of years ago. I'll spare you the details but I still love going to sushi bars and this is one of my favorites- great Little Fried Things In Cute Pockets- type dishes, completely inauthentic and funfunfun just like the crowd here! Definitely worth muscling up to the bar so you can get a high perch and a good look at the scene while you twirl your drink and enjoy the tasty specialty rolls. Yum!
Pros: Perfect attitide-to-hipness ratio

Fresh and creative sushi
by inignot
Definitely one of my favorite sushi places and one of the best in the city, as the polls confirm. Fantastic, modern ambiance with that warehouse/loft feel typical in the Mission. Old foreign movies play on one wall while loud music thumps throughout.
The specialty sushi/sashimi menu is always great, as are the rolls. The sushi here is among the freshest I've had, and the combinations are very creative, rivaling Kabuto A&S in the Richmond. They don't take reservations unless you're a large party, so definitely get there before 8pm if you don't want to wait.
Last thing - great signature cocktails, a must try. Even if the written description sounds strange (i.e. cucumber sake gimlet), it's good.
Pros: Creative sushi, great cocktails
Cons: kind of a "scene"

Happy hour!
by tf2001
Good place for a light, quick, early dinner. Stick to the handroll happy hour specials and order a $2 Kirin - it's a really good deal. Standouts are the dynamite and sunshine handrolls. Yum.

Didn't taste fresh
by jasper33
Service was good however the sushi did not taste fresh. The dragon roll was mediocre. Used to like this place a lot.

The best hang out place in SF
by brandon1111
Friendly!!! Very firendly, the waitress is so cute!!! Forgot her name tho. This is my favourite place to go in SF. I like to eat sushi and drink sake, and yet in a cozy environment, unlike sitting in a fine dining high class restaurant. I will go back to see my favourite waitress.
Pros: nice hang out place for couples
Cons: parking. they offer valet tho

Tasty Sushi in the Mission
by crminsf
Sushi was great--lots of speciality rolls to choose from. Loved the Azteca, Off The Wall, & Caterpillar rolls. Only dowfall was our server who wasn't very friendly & rushed us a bit. But sushi was good enough that we'd go back.
Pros: Inventive Specialty Rolls, Ambiance
Cons: Service wasn't friendly

I was so happy to stumble upon this gem while visiting San Francisco. The service was friendly and helpful. The sushi was the best I've had, fresh, innovative and addictive. Thanks for a great meal, I will be sure to visit again soon.

You gotta try this place...
by moko01
I recently moved back to the area and I was so happy to find Tokyo Go Go still at it. The food is more delicious than I remember. The sashimi melted in my mouth and the rolls were perfectly balanced. What a great spot!
Pros: FRESH FISH

Nice Mid-Week Surprise
by shanemonroe
I had the most delicious dinner at Tokyo a Go Go recently. Thanks to all the positive recent posts on this city search, I decided to give this place a try. I had been hesitant due to negative reviews a while back. Wow. This place is great. The husband and I showed up pretty early mid week and the place was just starting to fill up. We had great service and some really yummy dishes to share. The kobe beef tataki was the stand out. A close runner up was the tuna and salmon tartare. We also had the potato croquettes and the Off the Wall roll, which was a little fishy. Overall it was definitely a nice mid-week dinner out. I am sure we will be back.
Pros: Fun Menu
Cons: It starts to get loud as the place fills up

Good sushi
by suzy_funston
Great sushi, kind of annoying scene what with all the Marina girls in tube tops and kind of rude waitresses. But the fish is great. Stick to the specialty rolls.

Best Sushi in SF
by kingsushi
I could honestly eat sushi everyday, and if I had to choose a place to eat it, it would be Tokyo Go Go. I have been going there for several years now and I am conviced that no other sushi place in the city matches their quality and creativity. Others come close, but the Go Go reigns supreme. Trust me, next time you are there try the Spider Roll, Azteca Roll, Kamikaze Roll, Sake Nigiri and Hamachi Nigiri. No other Spider Roll comes close to this one. Not only is the sushi great, but they have a great wine list as well.
Pros: Food, Food, Food

My favorite after work treat!
by little_e
My favorite time to go to Tokyo GoGo is actually on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights because it's less of a crowd. I work in the neighborhood and find this friendly spot to be my favorite indulgence. Sure, there's a lot of sushi in the Mission, but sitting here at the bar, the chefs make you feel like you're at home. I recommend trying some of the specialty items-- they've convinced this Midwestern girl that monkfish liver is actually something to crave!
Pros: Friendly staff, interesting menu
Cons: parking

You gotta go to Tokyo Go Go!
by rymon
I recently had a great experience at Tokyo GoGo! My boyfriend and I arrived Friday for a late dinner and were greeted by the hostess who was very nice to us. She led us to the upstairs area to have a drink while we waited for a table. I only had two sips of wine, when to my delight our table was ready! We enjoyed Sashimi and specialty rolls like "Off the Wall"...shrimp tempura draped with spicy tuna and avocado..yum yum:) After a few bottles of sake...we were good to GO GO;)
and P.S to the person's review above...Learn how to spell first before submitting a review...secondly, No, not a member of the staff... just a happy customer who unlike you likes to drink, eat sushi and have a good time.....CHEERS GRUMPY!!!!
Pros: great sushi, cool ambiance, good times

Love this place!
by bhebdon
Amazing sushi with unique flavors and ths sake flows freely. The atmosphere is upbeat and cozy. I highly recommend sampling as many different sushi options as possible. Although it is great for a sit down dinner, my favorite is to saddle up to the bar with a small group and eat and drink to your heart's content. Watch out though. The sake sneaks up on you for sure.
Pros: Excellent Sushi, Sake, Great location

CREATIVE SUSHI FUN CROWD
by rubytues
I had a great time as a first time diner at Tokyo. I got there around 6:00 on wed night for an early dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the happy hour handrolls which rang in at $3 each and about the same for sake and beer. After a handroll and some sake my friend and I tried the kobe beef skewers since I'd heard about how tender it is and it was like melt in your mouth tender and soooo good!!After that a plethora of rolls standouts were Azteca and Golden gate. Good music, hip, young crowd and friendly staff.
Pros: Inventive Dishes, Laid back crowd, Fun atmosphere
Cons: , Not for families/kids

Excellent!
by kiearra
Great high quality food! There is something here for everyone, yes even for those who don't like raw fish. There were a variety of cooked small plates that were delicious and made a good complement to the sushi. This is a fun place to go on a date or with friends! Sit in front of John at the sushi bar.

New Chef in Town- creative & delicious
by elopez
I have eaten here a few times before, but recently the menu changed due to a new executive chef. The menu is filled with tons of new great small plates. I especially liked the tuna escabeche and tokyo gratin shrimp special. The best new additions are the speciality sashimis, truffled hirame and hirmasa topped with avocado and jalepeno -yum!
The quality of the food as always is high end, I really enjoyed the creative small plates that I have not seen at other resturants. I reccomend trying them all!! If you haven't been, it is a must try in SF!
Pros: quality sushi, creative food, relaxed atmosphere

Good fish, good service
by batifol
I had 3 of the special sashimi: seared hamachi, truffle-flavored hirami, and Chinese-style striped bass. All were delicious, with the gingery bass being my favorite. The goma ae had both spinach and asparagus and was beautifully presented. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful -- I wanted to get out quickly to go to a meeting, and they made it happen. There was a small mistake on the bill (charges $12/each for the sashimi instead of the combo price of 3 for $31), and it was fixed quickly and without fuss.
Pros: Great food, Great location

creative sushi
by leungdennis
This place has many creative sushi, many of them are vegetarians, and they are very tasty even for a meat lover like me. The menu doesn't offer much besides sushi, so don't expect to eat udon or noodles there. Sit at the sushi bar and buy the sushi chef a sake (I don't work here), they will fix you up with some good stuff.

ummm...Unagi
by vijaysinghrules
There is always a wait (they only take reservations for parties of 4 or more) which is fine because you can relax at the bar or walk across the street to Dalva (a gem). The fish is quite fresh and tasty and while the price could be less, we do live in SF. So its comparable to other sushi places. But what makes it great, in addition to the food, is the scene and atmosphere. It doesn't have pretense of Ace or Blowfish. Its definitely my favorite sushi place in the city.
Pros: nice 'views'

Sunday A-Go-Go
by nikipai
Sundays are the way to go as they have cocktail and food specials. The rolls were interesting and yum, the saki cocktails were tasty, as was the green salad (I'm a sucker for salad was good) and the warm appetizers. And definitelly get desert. The service wasn't too bad, but the seating isn't so great--we were right next to the kitchen wedged between two tables.
Pros: cheap Sundays
Cons: seating in the back
