Last night at Max's Diner, we asked for the server's recommendation...something we do when it's our first time dining in the restaurant. Our server recommended a dish that wasn't on the menu "shrimp over sweet potato for $14.99" which sounded delicious! So we both ordered it, but we didn't expect it to be fried shrimp over sweet potato fries. Guess we should have asked how the shrimp and sweet potato were prepared...anyway, the shrimp was good, but I left the sweet potato fries.

The dessert we shared (Max's Fantasy Torte for $6.99) was a good one for us, as I don't like "too sweet" and he likes "too sweet" as in "chocolate". It was three layers - plain cheesecake (I like), chocolate ganache (he likes) and chocolate cake (he likes).

On a side note, their ladies bathroom was very dirty...and 2 out of 3 stalls were out of toilet paper.

I Had a hamburger but it was great and came along with a huge portion of french fries. I think Max's is a great 60's style diner but has much more to offer than your normal diner style food. When people come in to visit I always suggest Max's diner to eat.

This restaurant has delicious American food. I got the turkey pot pie i think it is called and it was so tasty. It was a huge amount given too, and i couldn't finish it all. Also, the drinks they offer are quiet delicious too. There are different variety of lemonade. :D

I don't think I have ever seen a menu as big as theirs and with such a different variety of everything. Their menu says "Everything you've always wanted to eat" and they mean it. Our waitress had to come back to our table a handful of time to see if we were ready to order. Their portions are very huge and the food is really good. The place itself is really cute as well, kind of like a '60s diner.

Don't bother with wasting precious calories here!
The food is badly made, is reheated to death or has then died a slow death under the broiler until the server (in this case a lady called Patricia) decides to serve you!
Both the Potato skins and the Crab cake appetiser were so disappointing that I left them uneaten.
The management did not offer to discount them, offer me a replacement or gift card!
Eat at your own risk!

Pros: Good parking, clean toilets

Cons: bad food, bad service

As the menu says "no place for a diet"--they have enormous portions (not inexpensive) but the food is really good, especially the soups, appetizers and desserts. They have a lot of the authentic NY style deli specials too.

Max's is a pleasant but not mind-blowing dining experience. If you're looking for a typical diner menu, this is a great place with piles of french fries and decent hamburgers. The deserts could tempt the saintly. If you're looking for lighter entrees don't be put off by the "diner" image. Max's has alternatives for almost everyone.
