I wish to respond to the review written on March 24, 2011. As any of our many other on-line reviews testify,as Garden Gate's director and lead teacher, I respond immediately, respectfully, and earnestly. We all tried very hard to help our new parent feel comfortable and happy here.
As lead teacher, I devote a lot of time to helping parents, always happy to discuss how together we can meet a child's needs. I love this part of my work.
Respect and courtesy are practiced daily amongst our students, parents and staff, and towards the neighborhood that so kindly surrounds our school. Ours is a delightful community of committed parents who love that what they want for their children matches well with the authentic Montessori education offered at Garden Gate. This includes how we talk to, guide, and support every individual of our community.
Part of what makes Garden Gate a very special little school is that it's parents commit to a full school year. (and usually stay through three or even four years.) This means that our parents first consider carefully what they want and the quality of our program. We do offer contract release arrangements in situations where a family must re-locate.
I hope parents find this helpful.

We have sent our two children sequencially to Garden Gate over last 5 years. At beginning, we did not know exactly what to expect except for knowing that this place was reassuring in the first open house.
It turned out that my elder one, who started Garden Gate as first ever community outside of our native language and out side of the parents, was the best first arrangement we took for him. It TOOK MORE THAN ONE MONTH for then little 3 year old to learn to be separated from his mother, and Ms Mimi, and her staff, were extremely patient and gave our son all the time needed to start exploring and to gain confidence to be away from the mother, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, set back and crying...and my wife was allowed and encouraged to stay as long as needed to help the transition. Patience, support and a lot of smile and love did help our first child become a very happy learner at Garden Gate. Being parent for a first young child in a new environment, we could use a lot, and actually did get, useful helps and advises to help our son grow! Then it comes learning new language, a little by little, from barely learning a sound or two from TV, our son started his exploration to English. Consonants to strengthen, key words to practice, although being Immigrant twice in my life I already had my formed opinion about learning new languages, Ms Mimi's timely advise was actually a very helpful factor. 3 years after first day at Garden Gate, my son moved to Elementary School with full confidence and felt that every school must be as much fun as Garden Gate, don't know if I should give Garden Gate 100% credit or at least genetics would have played some role in it. During the years of Garden Gate, my son's strength were explored, weakness were accordingly supported, you cannot find a better individualized learning plan customized to each little one. Too bad my son was not able to get into Montesorri school in the lottery system( tried to go Eagle Peak Montesorri Elementary School but did not get lottery numbers), but I would tell you that transitioning to regular elementary school system caused him no effort at all.
As regarding my second one, she could not wait enough to go to Garden Gate, and it turned out the choice as as great! During one period, she did not want to learn certain new skills( blocks), and showed minor resistance, what we got, was much more encouragement and coaching and eventually, she is doing new skills and learning toghther with other children just fine. Both children of mine are diagonally different, and the degree of personalized attention was no difference.
Garden Gate is surrounded by private residences, and we cannot appreciate enough the kindness neighbours has put up for these years the traffic of parents coming and going, the last thing we want is to make Garden Gate neighbours pay any extra burden or price because of their kindness. Ms Mimi is there for the love of children, and I would say that the entire neighbourhood support is also indispensable, any property damage would be kind of bad, no matter how small that can be.
Definitely recommend this place to anyone. Great place for little ones.

We enrolled our son at Garden Gate for one week and withdrew him after many observations and conversations that did not fit with what we would describe as a Montessori environment. I was told that my son was too inquisitive on one day (and that he should ask permission before attempting a task), then stated that she was surprised he was sitting on a bench, doing nothing the next day. When my son picked a flower from a neighbor's garden to give to her (which I told him we shouldn't do again as the flower belonged in the neighbor's garden, but thanked him for being so thoughtful), Mimi responded to my son by saying "Oh, I will never hear the end of this" rather than a simple "thank you." She discouraged me from speaking to our son in Greek, and said that we should only converse in English. Lastly, on the first day of school, she scolded him when he got up from the bench in the back garden area during pick up and told him he may only get up when told to. What kind of Montessori school is this? Not one that my children will ever be enrolled in. To add salt to the wound, the $1500 or so that I paid with our application was never returned to me-and we were there for only one week!!! Fortunately, we found a much better Montessori school, one that reflects Maria Montessori's teachings, and one that my sons thrived in.

Our son just finished pre-school at Garden Gate Montessori and we have been pleased with the experience from the first moment we visited the school. Miss Mimi has provided our son and all the children in his class with a safe, sensitive, caring, and productive environment which has allowed for their growth on many levels. We could not imagine a better fit for small children! Thank you a hundred times over to Miss Mimi, Miss Cherry, and Miss Almarie for all they contribute to this lovely little school. We will be back for Kindergarten next year!

We have had a wonderful experience with Garden Gate Montessori School. The head teacher is a seasoned Montessori professional and is also the owner of the school. She has two outstanding assistant teachers, both Montessori-trained. They are all caring, very knowledgeable in early childhood development, and the children adore them. My daughter began her Montessori experience at Garden Gate and will be doing her kindergarten year there as well. She has thrived under the teachers' guidance and comes home excited about school most days. The school places great emphasis on respect--for peers, teachers, and the natural world. I would highly recommend this school to any parent.
