I have had the best experience at West-Wind. I have been there for 2 years and I love the group classes as well as the private lessons. My teacher, Ms. Delossantos, is a wonderful lady. She and all the teachers are very dedicated and serious about martial arts. Training and passing a test to get to the next belt is no easy task but feels well-deserved and gives you an amazing sense of accomplishment. The teachers are extremely supportive, experienced and motivational.

I spent half a year checking out other schools within a 25-mile radius of Alameda before deciding to enroll my child and myself in West-Wind. The other schools never conveyed the level of attention, respect and fun that was abundantly clear from the first day at West-Wind. They are like family that welcomes you, supports you and helps you to discipline yourself.

If you are serious about the martial arts, and don't plan to leave as soon as it gets difficult only to claim "sour grapes" in an online review, this is the school for you. You will emerge a better person.

Yes, it can cost more than other schools, but you get what you pay for: the best martial arts training in the bay area.

My family and I have been involved in West-Wind since 1999.

West Wind has been in Berkeley since 1969 and in Alameda since 1979, but the training stays fresh and current with and emphasis on old world etiquette. This BokFu (white tiger) style of martial arts builds confidence, endurance and can train you to save your life. The teachers are dedicated, enthusiastic and talented. They work well with kids and adults in private and group classes. The Dojos are open in the daytime and evening, so you can fit training into your busy lifestyle. There is a good balance between self-guidance and instructor push to keep you moving ahead. They screen student candidates for work ethic, initial ability and productive attitude, so it is a great and inspiring atmosphere for everyone to work and play in. I believe I am a better person for having gone there.

This karate school is amazing. Respect is the core of this whole program. They instruct the children, drill in them if you will, how to not only respect each other, but how to respect themselves. This is all done while truly teaching them karate like I have never seen it done before. Unfortunately, it reallly is expensive. But when you weigh out what your child is taking away from this program vs. others you may have experienced....well, I found it to be worth it. Your children only get one childhood, and you want to make the most of it for them.
