City Ballet can be a revolving door of students who become disheartened with the lack of encouragement by the faculty who have favored students whose parents donate money to keep the school afloat.
Students whose parents blatantly donate money and are listed in performance programs as benefactors receive preferential treatment, promotions to higher levels and are nurtured. Students who struggle with paying tuition are treated like second class citizens.
Girls are very catty and unwelcoming to new girls.
A very competitive environment with little support from fellow classmates
Summer Intensives are packed with
30 plus students in small termite ridden studios.
My daughter came home with 20 welts from the bites and the directors acted indignant about our concerns .
The guest faculty are too old to connect with young people and it is a crowded place with no room to change or take a break.
Favored local students receive parts in performances while out of town students watch from the sidelines .
They will gladly take your $1,100 tuition and cram you into a crowded studio with little regard for your individual needs.Parents are not permitted to watch to see what they are getting for their hefty tuition fees.
A very unwelcoming , unfriendly place .

City Ballet School is a very nice place to enroll in ballet classes. The professionalism there is a very nice thing to have. They require each different level class to wear different color leotards but it is a nice thing to see. THey have good instructors and you will be learning fast!

I have had good experiences here. Ellen Davis is a great instructor and I guarantee she will give you personal attention. My only complaint is that I wish there was more floor time and less time at the barre.

City Ballet isnt so bad, but the girls there are not very nice. Nor is the faculty. However its ballet and you dont particularly expect nice and proper. Its an okay ballet school, but for serious dancers who understand how ballerinas are treated. If you want to do it just for fun or enroll your kids look elsewhere.
