I'm originally from Hawaii and have been looking for a place that serve good "local" style food with Hawaiian music and found it here at Hukilau! I love the diversity of the musicians each weekend.

Hukilau is probably one of the more upbeat places to be in San Jose's Japantown. With their cool Hawaiian vibe and good food, this is a really fun place to be. Although straying away from the more traditional foods, they take the plate lunch approach serving katsu, fried rice, and fried chicken to name a few. One of my favorite things to order is the ahi poke, which is really good and can rival the locals in Hawaii. For those who are 21 and up, they do have a bar and have a good range of drinks, from the tropical to your common favorites. This place is fun all around with prices a little on the expensive side, but they do deliver good food.

I love this place. It's a very nice atmosphere to hang out with friends. I'm not familiar with Hawaiian food, but I've enjoyed everything that I've had there. They have good fruity drinks, my only complaint would be that they are small and not very strong. You'll have to go on Thurdays when they have their 1/2 price specials.

This place is so reminiscent of back home. The atmoshere, food, portions, aloha spirit, everything. If you haven't tried this place, you are missing out. The food is delicious and the portions are huge and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Any of you islanders out there who wants a bit of back home, this is a must place to dine, drink, whatever. Da' grinds are da' best! Oh, and the servers are gorgeous!

the hukilau is an absolute MUST go to restarant! it has HUMUNGOUS portions at very very low prices. the food is definately worth more than what is priced on the menu. i would recommend the teriyaki short ribs for ONLY $10 for the huge plate. also the spam musubi is very intriguing, which is spam wrapped around rice and nori (seaweed) looking similar to sushi. the service is amazing! our waitress was extremely helpful. she told us her recommendations of what meals to order, and our other waiter visited our table several times to fill up our cups and ask how our meal was doing. definately a must go!
