This is NOT a thrift shop, but a place to shop for quality

We experienced a very bad, very negative feelings at that store. The employers & owners were very rude, with uncivilized behavior, impatient, rude on the phone, and in person.

They took one dress, but did not give us any receipt, and no price.

When we came back later to take that dress back, they did not want to return it, and said that they don't have it.

They were hostile, yelled at us, insulted us Instead of a polite conversation. The Owners were so uncivilized that we were afraid that they would fight with us to push us out of the store.

They don't respect any civil rights of the costumers, don't have any moral values, don't know how serve people who provide the living for them.
Also, the store owners did not care about any punishments such rudeness might bring them from the law. They expressed no respect for the law, people, or fair for the punishments.

We want to help other people NOT to use this store! Other people should know how bad that store & service is. Such store should be OUT of business with such bad attitude and manners.

I took items to Deborah's Next to New in order to sell them on consignment. From the moment I entered the store, I was greeted by the store's proprietor with insulting hostility. Because I'm the sort of person who chooses to give people the benefit of the doubt, I persevered, assuming that the proprietor was simply having a bad day. As she went through the items I was about to entrust to her for resale, she insulted and berated me while her employees exchanged knowing, fearful glances with one another and with me. They tiptoed around her as if they were quite familiar with her awful moods, trying not to draw her attention while she was in such a horrible mood for fear of drawing her fire away from me and onto them. Once she had decided what she was willing to sell, she gave me a receipt with a few numbers on it, without any itemized list of my belongings. Those numbers could have meant anything. I should have reclaimed my belongings and left the store but, unfortunately, I didn't. It turned out that there was a method to her madness. Because of her hostility and insults, I was disinclined to ask questions that I had every right to ask, including what prices she planned to attach to my items. She sold my serger sewing machine worth $150, used, for $39! And she, of course, kept 60% of that, leaving me with one tenth what the machine was really worth. Some of the items I left with her were antiques, in good condition. For all of those items, I received $19. I have no idea what she sold and what she simply "donated". She refused to offer any accounting. After this experience, I can't help wondering whether she deliberately creates a hostile environment in order to prevent consigners from asking questions or insisting on their rights. I will NEVER go to Deborah's Next to New again, either to sell or buy. And if you want to keep your self-respect, you won't either!

I just got in from shopping at Deborah's Next to New and it was wonderful. There was so much positive energy in the store starting from the warm welcome when I walked through the doors to the time I checked out. Deborah's employees were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about their items in stock. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the store. The prices were reasonable and I will continue to shop there and recommend Deborah's to all.

i went to deborahs this afternoon and was VERY disappointed by there overall stock available and prices. I had high hopes for Deborahs and was looking forward to going there. as soon as i walked in not one person greeted me or anything of that nature. i will admitt there where A FEW nice things but the pricing was insane. i didnt even bother going o look at the rest of the store. for whta its worth i would go to amvets anyday rather then go there again, at least they are not overpriced.

this store is a jewel in the hidden valley of escondido. it is fun, friendly and always has many great finds. the clothes are very high quality and diverse. the glassware, dish sets and furniture are also of the highest quality. I find something fun every time I go there. deborah's is one reason escondido is a cool and quirky city and the center of north county inland - i hope the store stays around a 100 years. i can't waity to visit this weekend.

Obviously people who have negatively commented about CONSIGNMENT stores either don??t understand how it works or just don??t get it. Cristine should not take her bad items that are NOT ??Next to New? to that store and sell them on craigs list. I consign there and find it very nice and convenient. There pricing is fair and reasonable, often what i request they sell it for. It is one of the few remaining independent stores left anymore. Overhead, expenses, taxes, rent, insurance, and the percentage the consigner gets, it is any wonder the store even stays open. Cristine should stick to wal-mart and target, when she is finished with her items she should sell on craigs list and donate them to salvation army. OR, people can support a business that has been around for longer then I have been alive, (I am 33). My mom has shopped there since I was a little girl and now my daughter shops there. It??s a great place. Christine, which also sounds like the ??anonymous?? posting is the one who is dishonest and obviously has some real issues other then this store.

I love Deborahs Next To New!! I have been a longtime consignor/customer there for over 20 years! I am shocked at the previous review by Cristine P, she obviously had a bad day. They have a great policy about items that have been there too long, items get donated only after they are there too long. Go see the store for yourself, don't listen to the hater!

I had consigned several items, too many for them to list, so they just numbered them (should have left then). Went back a couple of weeks later, all new items that were still in boxes were no longer in boxes, boxes destroyed, one item broken. How can I sell these new items without the boxes or broken items anywhere else now?
Was told to leave my items past the 60 days because I left them late in the month, so I did. At the 90 day mark, the items that I was told had sold (went back for the money) were "donated" to them. I did not "donate" anything- I went there to get my unsold items back! - and they were no where to be found. One item was a table. My understanding is that all furniture stays until sold. I didn't realize that furniture can be "donated" (stolen from me) just like all the other items after a period of time. I not only lost items but the money for them as well.
Rotten owners and employees that feed off of others looking to get a bit of extra money in these times. Don't waste your time, money or effort on such a business, they only give you grief. Craigslist is the only way to go!!

I just got back from this store and I couldn't believe how high everything was priced. They did have some nice things but these items were the same price as buying it new at a nice furniture store and i know this because i've spent a lot of time looking around and pricing. The majority of things you could def. tell were used but priced as if they were brand new. There was a Kathy Van Zeiland purse that was completely haggard looking and it was priced at 59 dollars, I couldn't believe it. Most of her purses from Macys, brand new are 60 dollars. Plus you can get them new at Marshalls for less than 20 dollars. It was interesting to look through the shop but I wouldn't pay full price for anything in there.

We love bringing our items to this place, this is the most honest place we have ever dealt with, and we have been to a lot of consignment stores!! We figure once it is out of our home, someone else is going to re-love it and re-buy it and we make some money! It is great! We end up spending it at the shop on the way out, but we LOVE it!! We couldn't believe that negative anonymous posting, they must have had a bad day. We wanted to post a wonderful review!! Thanks Deborah's for helping us keep organized and clutter free in our home. Use it or consign it!!!
Have a great day!!!

I AM NOW THE OWNER OF MY DECEASED MOTHERS BUSINESS OF 34 YEARS, "DEBORAH'S NEXT TO NEW."

Our pricing structure reflects what the CONSIGNER wishes us to sell the items for. ??DEBORAH??S?? is NOT a thrift store, but an upscale, ??NEXT TO NEW?? store. We are not the Salvation Army, Goodwill, AmVets or any other type of thrift store. Some of our items are Brand new from stores that sold new items and went out of business, Antiques, or quality used items in ??new condition.??
Prices are usually at the request of the consigner and are then marked down 30-60-90 or more days there after. After that they are donated to St. Vincent DePaul Society, and other various charities.
Please stop by and say hello to one of our team members who have been there 30 years, 15 years and two others 10 years respectively.
Please tell your friends to stop by and have a look and help us look forward to future generations and community involvement.

I love the store and the value I receive for my items I no longer want or need is much easier than e-bay or a garage sale. 'Deborah's' is definitely NOT a thrift store but a 'NEXT TO NEW' store. I just found out the owner, ??Deborah?? passed away about a year ago and they have been struggling to keep it open and in the family. They recently remodeled and it shows. I spoke with the Son and he mentioned about how much theft had occurred from shoppers and had to install a camera system and security tag system. Its unfortunate people steal from such a small business.
I will continue to consign there and am hopeful they are around for another 34+ years! ??Deborah??s?? is a vital component to the community, give them your support!

Deborah's is very dishonest! I brought some clothing in for consignment and was given a receipt that clearly states that AFTER 60 DAYS unsold items will be donated to charity. That is fine with me. But, I later found out from a store employee, Donna, that some of my items had subsequently been "rejected" and tossed in the donation bin, never having gone on the sale floor. This is a clear breach of their own "contract". No one called me to come get the items, which I would have done. Donna couldn't even tell me which garments were rejected or for what reason, nor would she give me a straight answer as to how they can do this when the receipt says otherwise. I went to the store and talked to the manager about it who also tap danced around the issue. She was supposed to look into it and give me a call, but that never happened. I sent two
e-mails through their web site which have never been answered. If my items were not up to their standards, they should have never accepted them in the first place, and I would have taken them elsewhere or donated them to a charity myself and gotten the tax receipt. Deborah's must get a huge tax write-off for all the "rejected" clothing they donate! No wonder consignors get so little money back from them...some of your garments are never being put on the sales rack. Paul E (the owner) I hope you read this so you know how your employees are running your deceased mother's business. I will NEVER consign or buy at this establishment again.

Some people think their stained, old clothing, is so precious and valuable, clothing is not an investment! Anonymous obviously does not get the consignment concept, if your stuff is donated, the consignor gets the tax deduction, not the store! The store does not own the merchandise, HELLO!? And anonymous mentions Donna, a long time, honest, wonderful, and helpful woman, as if anonymous knows her, obviously this is not the case. The entire staff at Deborah's are all long term, committed employees who love and value this family business, and Deborahs legacy and as a long time customer and consignor I will continue to consign, purchase and "donate" my stuff there!! Good job Deborah's Next To New and staff, do not listen to this sad, ignorant review. It is an obviously lie, otherwise it would not have been posted anonymous.

This place is wonderful, the way it works is people bring their gently used and new items into this store for re-sale, new items are brought in in every single day that they are open, which is 7 days a week! I go in every other day , sometimes just to do a quick browse, in case something came in that I missed, it is such a great store, go check it out, you will love it!

This store is way better than any other resale or consignment store I have ever been to, it looks like it has recently been upgraded, they painted and made more room in the already huge store. You can find really unique items and there are many hidden treasures to discover, but you need some browsing time to get thru the place.

Wow, what a great consignment store, I have only recently discovered consignment stores and the great deals you can get and this store is the best!! Very clean, well organized, special sales every week! They have dollar days on Weds. and Sundays. They have furniture, jewelry, mens ,womens and childrens clothing as well as maternity. The furniture is unbeleivable! And all the household items, I can't say enough, and the store is huge!! Go check it out, you will be addicted!
The only downfall is that you need at least and hour to browse!!

Deborahs Next To New consignment store is the largest, nicest consignment store I have ever been to. Deborah, the owner, recently passed away but her family is keeping the business going and they have made some wonderful changes. It is a great store to browse around in and find your treasures and with great prices!! They have everything, Mens, womens, childrens and Maternity clothes as well as jewelry, antiques, household items and new and used furniture! And always a sale going on too! Go see the new and improved store, it is really nice. This is not a Thrift Store, they don't take donations, like Amvets and Salvation Army, they actually are very selective and take in only the nicest items.

I have to agree to the reviewer before me, this store was entirely overpriced for the used items they sell. Selling prices of mildly to heavily used items for prices you'd pay at a department store. I saw nothing worth the prices that they were trying to sell it for. It was clean though, and you never know, maybe they'll take the advice from their potential customers and lower theiur prices that reflect the real value of their items.

PROS: very clean and well laid out
CONS: prices where far too high

Everytime I've been in here, I've found merchandise that is way overpriced for what it is. They claim to be offering only the best in used merchandise, but really they are just another thrift store. You are better off going to AmVets.
