Great atmosphere. A bit on the high end looking side, but the good thing is no smoke or smokey smells. Food is good, but rather on the expensive side.

I just went here for the first time and I will be back. We had a great time and loved the concept since there isn't anything like it in the area. It is similar to fondu, but you only you are grilling your food. So you get to cook it how you like it. They have the best kobe steak and sake too.

Took a friend of mine here for her birthday dinner once, and it was amazing. Amazingly expensive, but also unbelievable exquisite. We did the "cook it yourself" thing, where you get small, select cuts of meat and/or fish, and you get to grill them up right there on the table, as rare or as well done as you want. And this isn't just any old slab of meat, we're talking insane-quality bits of Kobe beef, succulent cuts of pork... Mmm... It was absolutely delicious.

You do pay a premium for it, though.

I've also been to the Juban in Burlingame (on Broadway), which serves lunches. The lunches are also very good (no DIY there), and actually very reasonably priced (lunch specials run about $6-10)... Not sure if the Menlo Park Juban does lunches like the Burlingame one does, though.

PROS: Super-high quality meats, grill-at-your-table fun!
CONS: Decadence doesn't come on the cheap.

Reserved for my family for 7PM on 10/28. No one seated us for about 30 min. Even 2 walk-in groups were seated while I was kept waiting. I complained to the waiter but he treated me terribly. I asked for manager's contact, then he said it was posted outside so write down yourself! He refused to give his name to me. He even said "Behave yourself!". He eventually told me his name was 'Smith'. We walked out without eating. I complained to the manager next day and he told me he was Edward, not Smith. The waiter lied about his name. But manager did nothing about this guy. I used Juban a few times. OK food, terrible service all the time. I will never go again.

The official review editor is clearly unacquainted with the pleasures of real yakiniku. If her standard of taste is Benihana's, she obviously has very little range when it comes to Japanese food. Juban offers fresh, delicious Japanese yakiniku -- a nice variety at an affordable price. It's fun to go with friends and yes, you require a sophisticated palate.
