4 Stars: Cheap sushi on the promenade (by AngelaKP)

I always stop at Yangtze whenever I'm at the 3rd st. promenade. If you sit at the sushi bar, most rolls are half price. Every tastes great and the staff is very attentive.

4 Stars: Fresh fish served by attentive waiting staff (by doll83)

I have been there with a Sushi-maven and in his opinion the fish was
exceptionally fresh. The inventive sushi creations were sublime--tender
taste, though a firm texture. Ginger and water was served by attentive service
as much as we liked alongside. A versed servant told us that "Yangatze"
is the name of a river in China. There was also a discount on our meal for
eating at the bar.

4 Stars: Order In (by Joann S.)

I usually order and pick up the food here. Delicious sushi and chicken satay. They are always quick and I have never had any problems. Prices are reasonable and service is good.

3 Stars: OK sushi for people who don't know any better (by marpop)

A few weeks ago my fiance & I were looking for a quick bite before a movie and decided to give this place a try -- we figured it couldn't be that bad if they got an "A" grade and we were really in the mood for sushi. This place is huge -- we walked past the front outdoor patio and then thru the main dining area before being led to another eating area and then the far-back sushi bar (we later learned that sushi is 1/2 off when you eat at the sushi bar and good thing we did cos it totally was not worth full price). The fish was fresh but certainly far from the most buttery, flavorful sushi i've had -- the albacore nigiri was pretty tasteless and looked really boring -- no scallions, no nothing to make it look somewhat artful. The rainbow roll and shrimp tempura rolls were OK but nothing to write home about. I think what i remember most about that place is the customers next to us who kept sucking on their teeth -- when the clientele is gross, it kinda ruins the whole experience. Needless to say, we won't be back.

1 Stars: This place has went downhill... (by julianna1212)

I live four blocks from Yangtze and work less than 2 miles away. Yangtze used to be my favorite sushi spot and I ordered food from there at least 3 to 4 times a week, but I don't think I will ever eat there again. I ordered food online for lunch one day for myself and some coworkers. After an hour and a half when it did not arrive, I called and was told the food was on its way. After another 30 minutes with no delivery, I called again and was told again my food was on its way. This time I asked for the manager because that wasn't possible since my office is less than a 10 minute drive from the restaurant. When the manager got on the phone, he told me they never received our order because the fax machine was broken. This is after I had been told twice that it was on its way! By now, the whole office is hungry. After I told the manager what happened, he did not offer anything except to redo our order. It was ridiculous! Instead of apologizing and giving us the food for free as any respectable restaurant would do after such a mishap on their part, he sent the delivery guy over with two free 50cent sodas. I can't believe this is how they would treat someone who is such a loyal customer to them.

And also, the last couple of times I ate at the restaurant, my boyfriend and I experienced horrible service. We sat in the back sushi bar area. Our waitress was horrible and it took her forever to bring us our check. I'm so over Yangtze and am looking for a new sushi spot in Santa Monica if anyone has any recommendations.

2 Stars: Good for Promenade People Viewing - Can they charge for that? (by colinsilveira)

My first time to CA and my husband's maiden return after 9 years. To sum it up...poor service, horrible food, over priced, below quality sushi. I love sushi and expected better from a coastal area. I also expected better prices than what we pay for it in Chicago. Boy, was I disappointed! My husband had the basil chicken. Is this dish REALLY supposed to be sweet? We've never had it on the sweeter side of the palette before, so that was a disappointment!

Sitting out on the street eating our lunch was about the only tout we can give this Promenade restaurant.

3 Stars: DON'T BOTHER. SHODDY SERVICE, ZERO AMBIENCE, MEDIOCRE FOOD. (by ambergross)

I signed up for Citysearch just so I could express my frustration with Yangtze. Despite living a block away, we have determined never to return. What bothers me most is not the horrible service itself, but rather how unapologetic everybody who works there is about the horrible service. "Only one guy back there," we were told after waiting a half hour for sushi rolls that were not in fact the rolls we ordered. (The restaurant was virtually empty.) Another time, a busboy piled too many plates onto his arms, and spilled soy sauce over my dress, there was no attempt to make amends; he didn't even seem sorry.

Not once in our multiple visits has the meal gone off smoothly. We routinely waited more than fifteen minutes for a waiter to make an initial visit to our table, waited half an hour for food, hot dishes were brought out unevenly, busboys tried to clear plates out from under us even as we were very obviously still eating off them, we waited god knows how long for the check. We finally wondered why we were doing this to ourselves. Not worth it. Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy service. No ambience. Take-it-or-leave-it food.

3 Stars: Poor customer service... (by len74)

The mixed variety of oriental menu in Yangtze Restaurant was great. The Thai pork BBQ was especially tasty. The ambiance was decent, definitely not romantic though and the prices were reasonable. However if you're looking for great customer service then THIS IS NOT THE RESTAURANT or PLACE FOR YOU. The server we had was unsociable and inattentive. She took the order wrong and did not even try to rectify the mistake, nor did she gave us an option to resolve the problem. Yangtze provides good food but offers TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE...

5 Stars: Excellent food-Great Service (by scruffl)

Our dinner for three last week couldn't have been better. The potstickers, Chinese Chicken Salad, Mu Shu, and particularly the Blazing Noodles surpassed expectations. Waitstaff was helpful and prompt. A fabulous before or after movie spot with something for everyone.

3 Stars: Okay food... (by danijela)

the food here is good, but not great. if you absolutely need to have asian food on the promenade, then, go there. if you can drive to hollywood for thai, san gabriel for chinese... i would do that. the prices are very good though.

3 Stars: Adequate but not worth a return visit (by uclagirl)

The bao appetizer was quite good, as was the Thai selection my friend had. However, my chicken was overcooked to the point of toughness, and the service was only passable. Maybe it was an off day, maybe I ordered the weak dish on the menu, but I don't think I'd give Yangtze another try.

3 Stars: (by Meow O.)

I found a huge fly in my rice noodles! They did offer to cook me a new platter free of charge, but I was wary. I decided to order dumplings instead. I used to come here all the time because of the wide selection of tasty foods. I would say that it's overpriced though, but they have little competition. I think the nearest Thai restaurant is on Wilshire and 6th, where you'd have to find metered parking.

2 Stars: Below Average Food and Terrible Service (by jasoneskin)

The menu at Yangtze is a little unorganized in that they try to catagorize it by region. The service was absolutely terrible- we were rushed through our meal and rarely checked up on.

There are many other places to eat on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica- DO NOT GO HERE!
