First off, this place gives you an insane education. You learn more booksmarts here than you can anywhere else, however you learn nothing of the real world. If you dont get in at kindergarden level, good luck. I put a puzzle together, teach your kid the same and he/she should be chill. Grammer school was fun, Jr. high was a blast, high school was aweful. If you do not aspire to go to an Ivy Leauge university, Caltech or MIT dont waste your time. The academics are crazy hard and 95% of the students are geniuses. Poly encourages you to not be humble, but to know that you are better than most people but that you care about them by reading to blind kids once a week. Receiving a well rounded social life here is hard, since there are only 80 kids per class and the school fosters a ?bubble? like atmosphere. I had fun playing sports, but those are a joke to. To quote Adam Carolla ?How?s your seven and a half man football team doing?? sums up their sports. I got a great education that prepared me for college well, but was disappointed with the administration. If your child does go to this school, make sure they at least look at a large university or they will forever have their handheld through their years of education and think they deserve the world on a platter.

PROS: Great education, AP classes, good college prep. Everyone plays sports
CONS: Costs more than most universities, Privileged kids, no diversity

Polytechnic is a traditional college preparatory school with an outstanding reputation. The campus takes up 15 acres of prime Pasadena real estate and includes 2 gymnasiums, 2 tennis courts, an athletic field, a performing arts center, a fine arts center, 2 libraries, a computer lab, science and history buildings, and a media center. The campus is extensive but has more of a lived-in than a modern feeling to it. Polytechnic is a private school that offers a great education (especially at the upper school level), but one thing that it doesnt offer is enough spaces for the hundreds that apply each year. Even school alumni have trouble getting their children enrolled at Poly. The best time to apply is at the kindergarten level where there are the most openings (32). Grade 6 generally has about 20 openings, and grade 9 approximately 15-20 openings. All the other grades have very limited openings somewhere in the range of 0-4.
