3 Stars: Pleasant, but a little expensive (by R T.)

We had a very pleasant dining experience at Jaipur for both lunch and dinner. Lunch was reasonable, but dinner was expensive for the portions we received.

4 Stars: Excellent (by Thea S.)

Excellent Indian food and if you're interested in something new, you should give it a try. Very different cuisine than most are probably used to but it's fun to experiment and try new stuff. Enjoy!

1 Stars: Worst service I've ever experienced from a "good" restaurant in 30 years (by EdE888)

My wife and I hadn't visited Jaipur in several years. Boy did we make a mistake. My wife's entree was served a full 10 minutes after mine (that's not an exaggeration - as hard as it is to imagine). When it arrived, there were no apologies or excuses. The waiter later claimed the cause was a substitute chef, but since the quality of the food was still good, I suspect it's a management problem. Other than the late entree (and a mistake in the order),the service was nearly nonexistent and the meal was ruined. They didn't even give me a receipt for my credit card payment until I brought it to their attention. This is the first time in my life I was so disguted that I didn't tip, and I'll never go back. It qualifies as the worst experience I've had in a LA restaurant in a long time. Good food and reasonable prices are nice, but service this bad will ruin any meal. Hopefully they will wake up!

5 Stars: The Best for Indian Cuisine (by Ruth B.)

The service is outstanding, the ambience is peaceful, and the food is heavenly.

They serve a great muligatawny soup, a divine chicken makhni, and the kahbuli nan kicks butt-- heck everything I've had there has been wonderful.

For Indian food, they are reasonably priced -- if you want cheap then go elsewhere and wonder why things all taste the same or swim in fat.

4 Stars: excellent indian nosh (by kopite11)

Excellent flavors! I had a chicken and a shrimp curry. Aromatic and delicious. I could taste the spices very well. Definately will return. I ordered take out. Restaurant seems pleasant and clean inside. I would give them 5 stars except the parking is a bit difficult. Will have to valet or park at the near by mall.

1 Stars: Wretched customer service (by lexpress)

I used to be a loyal Jaipur customer despite the fact that the food was consistently way too spicy (and I consistently asked them to make my aloo gobi mild). That changed when the rude service on the phone (I only ever got delivery) trumped the merits of the cuisine. Customer service is abysmal though the food is not as greasy as many Indian places.

2 Stars: SLOW-to almost NO Service - BLAND Food - Go elsewhere (by radiancelee)

our waiter was non-existant, most of the serving was done by an overworked bus boy.
the rice pilauw was wet and sloppy with fruit from a del monte can.
the sag paneer (spinach and cheese) was ok, but seriously lacking salt.
the rogan josh (lamb curry) was nothing great, but the most decent dish on my table.
we had to wait 45 minutes for our chai and naan to arrive, actually, our server didn't really listen to what we ordered so we had to re-order, which is a chore.
go to india's oven on westwood instead, it's around the corner, MUCH tastier, cheaper and the service is impeccable.

5 Stars: Tasteful, elegant and great food too! (by tashasha01)

I simply loved this place, it's tastefully decorated, very romantic and the food is good too! Lots of variety to choose from, so it can accomodate even the most discerning tastes. I really enjoyed the service too, the waiters are very patient and willing to give pointers. All in all a very pleasant dining experience.

5 Stars: Consistently good lunch buffet. Good vegetarian selections too. Excellent food. Great for work-week lunch (by adamgator)

I run down to the Westside Pavilion for Jaipur' lunch buffet whenever I can. Unlike some indian buffets, Jaipur is consistently good. Food is hot and constantly being replaced. Clean. Good variety and nice Vegi and meat selections (if you're into that). Fresh nan brought to your table whenever you ask - never soggy! Excellent chutneys and sides. Selections vary day to day but the best dishes are always out: Palak, Bengan Bharta, Tandoori, Curries. Open for early or late lunches. Dinner is good too, but not has happening as Electric Karma on 3rd St near the Grove. Don't forget the 10% off coupon - keeps the price for 2 people at approx. $20 for lunch with tax and tip. Coupon works on the buffet! Service is good with filling waters, clearing plates. Slow to bring the check, but heck, they're not rushing you out! Just flag them down when you're ready to leave. Staff have never been rude or even borderline inpolite to us and we go all the time! Park on Pico or just south in the residential areas (1 hour free parking there, just read the restrictions). Best Indian on the West Side.

4 Stars: Tikka Masala. the lamb spinach dish!! YUM (by divine01)

Ok this place is fairly bare bones, but the food is good. Definately try the chicken tikka masala, and the lamb spinach dish (can't remember the name) they are great! Make sure to also order plenty of naan bread to soak up all of the sauce! They do delivery which is always convenient too! Come here if you want good indian food, but do'e expect much more. The service is decent, parking is convenient, but they have no a/c. It does get warm in there during the summer.

5 Stars: Best Indian Food in SoCal! (by Jack H.)

Highly recommend the lunch buffet. The selection is outstanding and the staff is friendly and attentive. The Chicken Makni and Tandoori is very good, as are the standards such as Spinach Saag and Lentils. Not to overuse a well-worn cliche, but you will not leave here hungry.

1 Stars: Terribly rude. Bad Decor. (by dcesquire)

I typically used to get delivery because it's more pleasant to eat in my home than in the cramped and uncomfortable dining room. The bathrooms look like an Alabama truck stop.

I called to order my usual delivery order and was told very rudely that I needed to order more or he would not deliver. My order was rudely cancelled and I was hung up on. The proprietors don't know how to treat customers. I won't be back.

The food is pretty decent, but you can get the same or better from Nawab or New India Grill without being treated like garbage for my trouble.

1 Stars: TOO RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (by night_owl68)

I asked delivery because they say they "deliver" on their web site. The person on the phone said,"For the delivery, you have to call a different number." So I called the number he gave me, and found out it was a delivery company whick had nothing to do with the restaurant. The delivery company charges us $7.00 for delivery! I felt the restaurant should have explained about that when he gave me the number. Therefore I called the resutaurant again, and I asked the manager. Then the person hang up on me. Then I called again. He hang up on me again! I will NEVER call them.

3 Stars: average all you can eat lunch buffet (by lainian)

i'm usually not an all you can eat buffet fan since i'm a believer of quality is better than quanity but i was decided to try it because of my husband's love for rice pudding. we were disappointed. the rice pudding was pretty bland tasting mostly of condensed milk. mango lassi is ok but the plain lassi comes salted and seasoned making it taste more like the persian yogurt drink than plain lassi. the naan is thin and slightly crunchy. the highlight of the meal was the vegetable of the day but since it changes daily it's not enough to draw us to come back. the chicken tandoori was not bad (btw ok and good) being tender and mildly seasoned. the chicken makhni's curry was a bit too mild altho the chicken was ok (good on flavor but not equally moist. some pieces were good, others slightly dry) the lamb curry was surpisingly good considering the rest of the buffet offerings being strongly flavored and tender. the salad portion of the buffet is quite respectable. the sum it up, everything offered tasted ok but nothing exciting enough to make us go back.

3 Stars: I wouldn't try it again (by gnoleb)

Tried this tonight, Sunday- right off the bat, parking is hard to find and it is $4.50 to valet.

The restaunt is very small, and their few tables for 2 are butted up to other tables, so you better like it cozy. The lighting is too bright for my tastes, and you can hear other people's conversations, so people tend to talk less.

They did start you off with two papadums and mint chutney (one of my favorite indian elements), so that is a plus. I don't like it when indian places won't give you anything to snack on. Since this was my first time here, I ordered a few standards and a few recommendations- Chicken Tikka, Sheesh Kebob, Kashmiri Pavlir (or something, it was a rice dish), and Vegatable Korma. With some onion Naan.

The food took about 25 minutes to come out to us, which is ok. Unfortunately, the start of the show was the Vegitable Korma. The sauce was rich and the dish was yummy. The Sheesh Kebob was alright. A bit larger in sausage shape, so you get a lot, but it tasted like it had a lot of "filler"...not a great spicy rich lamb taste. Just average. The Chicken Tikka, which only the second I've had not colored red, was dry and unflavorful; a total bust. The Kashmiri rice dish was terrible. It was literally yellow rice with raisins, nuts, and then the peculiar addition of Fruit cocktail. I'm not kidding, they literally dumped the pears, peaches, grapes and little bit of half cherry into the rice. It didn't fly alone, and was even worse mixed with anything else (even Tamarind sauce didn't make it better). The garlic naan was pretty good, tho...a bit more flakey and dry than other places, but in a good way (not oily to the slightest, probably healthier).

The prices were about average for a sit down indian place- $50 for 2 after all is said and done.

I don't think I'd return here. The atmosphere isn't very good and the food was on the lower side of average (with the fruit cocktail rice being laughably bad).

3 Stars: Spicy (by bastette)

It was ok, the food is on the spicy, spicy end of Indian Restaurants even though I ordered a dish that is traditionally mild. They also charge separately for rice. It's "upscale" but didn't knock my socks off for the price.

4 Stars: Consistently good (by moonchilde)

I've been coming to weekend brunches, and occasionally dinner, at Jaipur for about six years. I think that what I appreciate most about the food is that it's not OVERspiced (and by spiced, I don't just mean heat). Their sauces are delicious and on the subtle side, which IMO is as it should be. They don't have to shock you with strong flavors and high heat, the food is just good. The brunches also include dishes you don't usually find at the average Indian buffet (the chicken makhni is to die for), and there are *more* dishes offered than average. I too was pleased that the champagne and bread included refills. I could eat gallons of the rice pudding (khir). I have always, found the service prompt, very courteous, and unobtrusive. Sometimes, though, there is more of a delay than I'm happy with in receiving the check and paying. However, that's a small thing and I'll remain a loyal customer.

5 Stars: Best Indian in West L.A. (by Matt R.)

They have a great buffet, but the dinner is by far top notch. It is small and quaint, excellent service, with a good range of Indian beers. Highly reccommend the Chicken Tikka Masala.

PROS: The food is the best Indian you will have
CONS: Interior could look prettier

4 Stars: Great Indian lunch buffet (by kc1980)

Simply put, I recommend this place. If you're just looking for good Indian food and not a stuffy ol' joint where waiters will polish your shoes while you eat, then this is the place. Also, in response to the previous reviewer that complained about the waiters telling him not to waste food, it clearly states so on the buffet tables. Yes, there's a sign and I totally agree with it. Most Indian immigrants did not grow up in an affluent country like the US, so it is painful for them to see others grossly waste food (and this typically happens at all-you-can-eat buffets). Just play nicely, respect others and eat all your greens. K?

5 Stars: Great Experience.... (by simyas)

I really liked this place! Although the ambiance is simple--it's a clean and cute place--the food was really good. I would consider this one of those restaurants that you can always count on for a good experience...you know, the kind where you want good food, but want to come as you are.
5 Stars: BEST INDIAN BUFFET IN WEST LOS ANGELES (by traviscattach)

This place is the best Indian place in the area. We went for champagne brunch on a saturday and the place was moderately full. What impressed me, was the fresh selsction of lamb and chicken (as well as salad and other condiments) as well as their extensive chutneys. All available at the same low rate. Even desert was catered for you. And FREE REFILLS for brunch is unheard of. My friend and I (two larger gentlemen) were provided ample amounts of bread and the service was perfect - the bill totaled $22.00. Will definitely be back for more.

1 Stars: I wish I knew how the food was. . . (by dematteosm)

I have never been treated more poorly than I was treated in this restaurant. The restaurant was barely half full and my boyfriend and I sat for nearly 20 minutes with our menus closed ready to order without even being offered drinks. In the meantime the waitor even had extra time to set up table and even refill our water, yes, we were sitting there long enough without being helped for our water to be refilled. If you look slightly different from average, with even the slightest sub culture flare, I wouldn't suggest going to this restaurant. They don't like to serve us.

4 Stars: "Indian Dishes" (by screwjc)

We passed this place by several times until trying it last week. The decor is certainly pink, as is the theme, but warm. We were seated quickly on a Saturday night. The menus did not give enough detail for people that are not familiar with Indian food. When my wife asked what one dish was like, she was told, "It's an Indian dish." This was not overly helpful. The appetizers were inexpensive and delicious and my three year old loved them. The service was quick to serve, but a bit slow to bring the check. The main dishes were served in warming dishes with large portions. One order would probably have fed the three of us. The food was altogether delicous. Make sure you order rice as a side as it doesn't seem to come with the entree. There were several kids there at the time we dined (6-7 pm).

Great food, flavor, service, & price. This is a real
gem in West LA. We have gone for the Buffet many

5 Stars: Jaipur rocks (by bophisto)

I have been going to Jaipur for many years. Its a great place to get tasty indian food in a relaxed setting. The owner is a very nice man, and will always ask how you are doing. I've always enjoyed their food, and their lunch buffets are an excellent value.

5 Stars: Wonderful Experience (by hm2000)

Jaipur was by far our favorite restaurant during the three years that we lived in LA ( till 2003). The food is wonderful and the service and personal attention outstanding. I am compelled to write this after reading the earlier negative review. The owner, Billy has always gone out of his way to take care of us and all our friends that have gone to Jaipur. So, I am personally stunned that the previous reviewer had such a bad experience. I will strongly recommend Jaipur. It's a great, cozy, restaurant that makes excellent food and tops it with excellent service. As an Indian, I know good Indian food when I have it and Jaipur will always be on the very top of my list.

1 Stars: Insults customers (by pjanard)

The worst service you can ever get in any restaurant. The 2nd time I had gone there, I had the painful experience when the owner comes with the bill to me and says 'next time don't waste food' . We had the buffet (already overpriced at $9.99) and to my best knowledge did not waste much. This guy is an ultimate beggar, not fit to run a restaurant. He doesn't know the basic courtesy, manners and the way to behave with customers. We or our many friends in this area will never go there again in our life.

5 Stars: Excellent (by lesly)

I am not a huge fan of Indian cuisine, until I dined here. I reluctantly went along with a friend for a quick lunch. The selections are great and the taste was surprisingly fresh and perfectly seasoned. I tried the Began Bharta and found it to be delicious. I will go back and be a bit more adventurous. If you have not gone, then you're really missing out!
