This shoe repair store at this location is under new management called WILLOW GLEN SHOE REPAIR AND IT ROCKS!

I'm only giving it one star because R Herrera unfortunately for all of us is now across the street and I recently had a horrible experience at his store. I don't want folks to get the impression that R Herrera is any good when they open his name up on this site. R Herrera is now located across the street at 1585 Meridian, San Jose. If you open up R Herrera on YELP u will see horrible reviews. The one review shown here is as horrible as my experience.

SHADY, DISHONEST, RIP OFF, FALSE ADVERTISING ON PRICES

RUDE, VERBALLY ABUSIVE

TEMPERMENTAL, SEVERE ANGER MANAGEMENT ISSUES

DEFENSIVE, DISGUSTING 'CUSTOMER SERVICE"

NO QUALITY REPAIR

Description above is how this store operates.

Just had the most horrible experience at this shoe "repair" shop. Brought in a pair of boots to have a sole replaced. I brought in the other boot to show the style of how the soles should look.

The owner took the good boot, grabbed a shoe pick and before I knew it -ripped off a perfectly good sole that needed NO repair! I had already told him this boot was fine--that I just wanted to show him what I wanted it to look like. He wasn't listening--too focused on grabbing a shoe pick, I guess. His response, "it was ready to come off anyway". I said, "You tore it off and now both boots need to be resoled". He shrugged, tried to charge me to have BOTH boots resoled but he knew he had no business ripping the second sole off without my permission.

Glue was oozing out of the shoe, cheap stick on (I could have done a better job using crazy glue) and both soles were crooked, uneven, and lopsided. Whatever product he used was as cheap as they come and the "repair" was an amateur job at best-- (that's a compliment). Previously he told me he would clean the boots as part of their "service", but the boots were covered in dust when he handed them over to me. Honestly, the boots looked like they've been through hell.

It gets worse...the second time I wore the "repaired" boots within a week, one of the soles just flopped right off in the middle of the street. An hour later, the second sole just slipped right off! I returned them to the store and politely told him that I've only wore these boots twice and the soles already came off.

Before I could even finish my sentence, he immediately got defensive and said it was the way I walked--it had nothing to do with his work. I was trying to tell him that these things happen and if he could ....couldn't finish what I wanted to say...then he yelled, "what do you want from me? I told him I'd like him to replace the soles at no charge since I've only worn the boots twice...and one boot was perfectly fine until he tore off the sole WITHOUT my permission. He threw the boots on the table, pushed them way from him, palms pushed toward my face and yelled, "NO", shaking his head over and over.

While I tried to explain that this was not what I paid for, he started SCREAMING at me while walking away toward the back of the store repeatedly telling me to GET OUT with his fist clenched toward me. People outside the store could hear him. He didn't have any other customers in the store ....wonder why...but even if he did it wouldn't have matter because he lost complete control of his temper and it was pretty scary. As he continued to be verbally abusive, I told him I was going to write him up on YELP and he screamed from the back of his store as I walked out, "Go ahead--I dare you, &^%()**!! , The Yelp are a bunch of *^#@! idiots anyway...and no one will believe you." He knows I work at a successful high tech company a couple blocks away and he said, "I don't need their business either-I don't care...they're a bunch of idiots. No one will believe you...". IMO, they're only idiots if they still go to this establishment AFTER reading his reviews.

Also saw him try to rip off an elderly gentlement who brought in twelve pairs of shoes to shine. I believe Herrera advertises $1.50 per shoe shine when I was there, but his neighbors said it fluctates between .99 to $3.50. Today it's $2.50. That price is just to gently wipe the shoes with a cheap cloth. If you want them polished, blackened, shined, and include all the "repairs" he claims the shoes need, all those "extras" are an additional fee. Bottom line...a generic shoe shine is about $30.00 depending on the type of shoes...it goes up for shoes with accessories, zippers, stripes, heels, etc. . The poor fella walked away so disappointed and Herrera told him to leave if he didn't want his shoes shined at his price..."go somewhere else, I don't care", he replied.

.

I went by around 4:45p.; they were closed, but their sign said open till 7p. Desperate to have my only work shoes repaired, I walked around back and saw a couple of workers through the window. I got their attention, asked for a quote, and was aked to return in an hour. An hour later I came back, they were opened and I was helped by the owner, R. Herrera. His quote was $2 more than his worker quoted me, and he would not budge! Herrera claimed his worker, "Doesn't know what he is talking about." This shoe repair business is unkind, rude, and Herrera had an abrasive demeanor. Consequently, this service will be my first and my last!
