Bank Of America

The tellers and bank personnel are very kind and helpful. The best thing is the extensive network of B of A's all over the country. I can easily transfer funds to my children in college.

PROS: Large network
CONS: California network is still not seamless with other states

I moved to California in 1990 and started banking with a neighborhood bank called Gilbralter Savings. Within a few years, they were bought out by Security Pacific and then Security Pacific was soon bought by Bank of America.

BofA is a global banking operation and they are very skilled at acquisition, consolidation and optimization. They helped make the transition - which included payroll deposit and safe depoist boxes - relatively painless.

The best feature of BofA is their state of the art online banking. When I was overseas on assignment for 2 years in a 3rd world country, I was still able to pay my monthly bills and never missed a mortgage payment.

PROS: Online Banking is 2nd to none
CONS: Wish they had higher savings interest rates...
