We have been taking our dogs to Heritage for 14 years and have always been so impressed with the caring and professional staff. Dr. Palmatier is incredibly knowledgeable and sensitive and has always taken amazing care of our dogs. I am so happy that we found Heritage when we moved to Santa Rosa. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Palmatier to anyone.

I do not recommend Heritage. They have such a high turnover rate - every time I go in, there is someone new working the reception area. I like to feel like I know who is caring for my animal - I want to establish a relationship so that I feel comfortable leaving my pet behind when I have to, for whatever reason. I also felt that Dr. Palmatier handled my pets a little rough. And as far as compassion goes, I dont see it. Who, in their right mind, starts a conversation about THE WEATHER when I am having to put my cat to sleep! Are you kidding me! That was the worst experience ever.

I am a student will little extra money to spend, however I get a discount because of this!! Whenever my pet and I walk in, the receptionist are on top of things with a huge smile to share. They truly love animals of all kinds and will go out of their way to make the experience more comfortable for my dog and I. The techs that start the exam ask good basic questions and never force products, just educate me, which I completely appreciate. When the doctor (Dr. Palmatier) walks in he is always in a good mood and performs excellent exams and seems to truly respect and love all types of pets...rats included!! I would like to add that my friend has rats also and takes them to the Dr. P. All have lived well and happy lives. My friend comes back from the vet relieved that proper attention was given to her and her rattys.I am confident in these caring and educated people! We, as pet owners, are not ones to diagnose pets. You may think it is a yeast problem but where did you go to school? are you a DVM? BY THE WAY pets CAN have flea allergies, just one single flea can cause them to break out and you may never be sure if you don't use flea control. If you don't believe this do some proper research for yourself or ask any veterinarian.

After taking our kitty to another vet (a nearby "wholistic vet" ) and being told our cat needed a therapist, we decided to try Heritage. A friend recomended them and so we gave them a try. They were great! They listened and asked a bunch of questions that gave us some insight into the diagnostic process. Dr. Palmatier explained everything and was not afraid of sharing information. He didn't try to "dumb it down" unless we asked him to. They performed tests and always followed up in detail. Dr. Palmatier called us personally to ask a bunch of follow up questions and was very thorough and thoughtful.

Heritage was great and we would totally recomend them to anyone. We have since moved out of the area. On the morning of the flight to our new home state, Dr. Palmatier let us bring in our cat and gave her a tranq shot no charge so we could handle her on the plane.

We'll miss you guys.

...and honestly, who keeps rats as pets? I've only known one kind of person who has a pet rat (and I've known a few rat owners).

I was under the impression that Dr. Palmatier had good experience in dealing with RATS, so I brought my rat in. (I saw a rat web page referral to him and the receptionist echoed that he had an expertise in this area.) He did not even know how to handle rats -- he started bending forward when she went onto his shoulder, so my rat was climbing down his back ... He seemed a bit of a faker, with respect to his dealings with rats. The technician who brought us in asked about vomitting -- which rats cannot even do. Then he echoed "no vomitting" as well when he came in to the exam room. I actually brought in two rats -- one to have tumor (my guess) removed and to have her spayed as well, and second rat to spay. He did not recommend spaying either, and the estimate for tumor removal surgery was $250 -- I got home and turned around and went back to get the rat, and found another vet who looks like she really knows rats, who said it may just be a cyst because of its location near tail, and who also diagnosed mites. I only brought in the second rat for spay-only because I was thinking of getting them both done at once, but since he wanted to do research to figure out the benefits of spaying an 18month old rat, he did not suggest doing spay on either, but he did examine the second rat, though I did not bring her in for any problem. When they went to charge me $35 for *nothing* for this second rat, he at least reversed that charge. But his manner and expertise with rats made me really uncomfortable, not to mention the ridiculous price, made me turn around and go get my rat. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM FOR RATS. And his manner was so odd, and the office staff attitude was also not very good -- so I would not recommend Dr. Palmatier or Heritage Veterinary Hospital for any pet.
