From the outside, the restaurant looked great. Unfortunately, that is the only thing this place has going for it. Seems like a tourist trap (yes, I am a tourist on vacation in SF). Food was bad, overpriced, and the icing on the cake came when we received the bill showing that the pasta we ordered for our 1 year old and 2 year old was $12 each ($24 in total). The waiter said they do not have a menu for kids and suggested pasta so we ordered it. When the bill arrived, we asked the waiter if the tiny plate of pasta for our 1 year old and 2 year old was $12 each and he said that it was correct. Given that an adult entree of pasta was $19, it is just not right to charge $12/plate for pasta for infants and not let the customer know about it in advance. This place deserves to go out of business.

A friend recommended that my husband and I go to Cafe Tiramisu for our anniversary, and we were more than pleasantly surprised. This jewel of a dining experience is tucked in an alley near SF's financial district, and features a palette-pleasing array of classic and not so classic Italian dishes. The service is attentive, yet not intrusive, and the wine list is reason to come back every week. I really can't say enough about this wonderful place. I look forward to returning very, very soon.

I've been eating in Cafe Tiramisu for over 10 years, whenever I get to San Francisco. Great food, attentive but not stuffy wait staff. Medium priced, not expensive, and definitely worth it. Can be crowded and a little noisy, but who cares, since its a great restaurant. I recommend it to everyone I know who is going to SF, and that's with a money back guarantee. It's as good as anything you will find in Italy.

I?ve been here before and each time, I have had a very pleasant dining experience. On top of that, did you know this restaurant is teaming up with StreetSmart4kids? It?s actually really cool what they?re doing. I just heard about how SS4K is a nonprofit organization that helps underprivileged teens stay healthy. They are running their ?Dine Out and Donate? campaign here (as well as approx. 70 other restaurants in SF) during October and early November. After having a fabulous dining experience, just fill out the donation form when paying the check (minimum donation $3). This is perfect for people like me, who love to eat out all the time and also like to give back to the community. Check it out for yourself on the StreetSmart4Kids website!

I went to dinner the other night with a friend and ate at this amazing retaurant. It felt as if we were in Europe! We ate outside (next to a heater, as the famous San Francisco Fog was rolling in!) I had a wonderful seafood dish, topped off by the restaurants famous dessert Tiramisu (I figured any restaurant that names itself after the dessert has got to be good, well not only was it good it was GREAT!) We had made reservations on line on "open table" and we were seated almost immediately after arriving at the restaurant. Our waiter was from Italy and that added further charm to our dining experience! He was charming, cute(Yes I flirted a little!) and was very attentive to our needs. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for an authentic Italian dining experience. They offer exotic dishes (not your typical Eggplant Parmegan or Spaghetti and meatballs) but REAL northern Italian dishes! Wonderful! I will be back!

I have been going to Cafe Tiramisu for nearly 5 years. I go with my boyfriend who LOVES to sit outside(he says it makes it feel as if we are in Europe) that's a stretch, but it is romantic. All or most of the wait staff are foreign (many from Italy) which truly makes for an authentic Italian dinning experience! The Baby back ribs are my personal favorite! and try the tiramisu for dessert!(I figure any restaurant that names itself after that wonderful Italian dessert has got to be good) and it's not only good, it's great! Better than my boyfriend and I had in Italy! Thumbs up to Cafe Tiramisu!

Great ambience outside with candles with GREAT service! Being half Italian, I am very picky about Italian food and I was VERY impressed with their food!!! I've been to so many restaurants in North Beach area of S.F. and cannot believe how Cafe Tiramisu beat them with flavor by a long shot! The rigatoni and the ahi linguine was delicious! Oh and the desserts... I can see why they named the place tiramisu :) I have been bragging to family and friends about this place all weekend! Keep up the great work Cafe Tiramisu!

You can't really go wrong with any of the restaurants on Belden Place. Wanted to have Italian for dinner with Friends so we chose Cafe Tiramisu.

The charm of Belden Place is to be sitting outside of course. The Cafe Tiramisu is no exception. The inside of the restaurant has not particular interest, I would highly recommending making a reservation and asking for an outside table.

Great wine selection and good dinner. Our dishes were good but nothing memorable. The proximity of the tables may make it a little uncomfortable for certain but we enjoyed it.

With all the bustling noise and excitement at this restaurant, I felt as if I were back in Italy, visiting the charming little eateries in the tiny alleyways of Italy. Fortunately the ambience wasn't the only thing reminiscent of Italy. The service was very friendly and charming (all with a touch of Italian) and the pasta was delightful. I had linguine with clams, zucchini and dungeness crab - everything was so well flavored, light and fresh - I literally finished the plate. yum! I saw other diners feasting on steamed mussels and they looked lovely - i will have to come back and try those next time.

The owner recommended steamed mussels as an appetizer. It was very good. My friend and I, whom I brought along for her birthday, could not get over how delicious the spicy tomato sauce was. It smelled wonderful. A big bowl of steamed mussels, full of spices and garlic. The sauce was great to dip bread in. We also had the steamed clams and a pear salad with brie cheese that were both good. The brie cheese combined with the wine dipped pear made for an interesting but tasty treat. We loved that one too! The wild boar gnocchi was extremely fresh and, thankfully, well portioned after we had nearly stuffed ourselved silly with appetizers. But no regrets for these foodies! The gnocchi tasted soft and light, unlike other places, which tend to be hard and chewy. The wild boar did not taste gamey and the sauce was great since it was not too rich and heavy. Very nicely done. My grilled rosemary chicken smelled wonderful, but portions were big, so I had to pack it to make room for dessert. The tiramisu cake was light and fluffy, not too sweet and bitter but just rich enough to know you're eating a wonderfully sinful dessert. Service was great and attentive, despite the place being full on a Thursday night.

Tiramisu is certainly one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco because of their exquisite food and unique setting. I wanted to impress some of my colleagues in the hotel industry for a business dinner, as they were visiting from out of state two nights ago. I've decided to take them to Tiramisu because this restaurant has always provided me a memorable dining experience. Murphy's Law...we have encountered a minor hiccup with the service that evening. I spoke with the restaurant manager on the side about the situation and he completely turned the experience around for us from being disappointed to being amazed. He wanted to make things right immediately by offering us desserts or wine. I told him it wasn't necessary, as I just wanted him to be cognizant of the experience, so they could improve on it. He approached our table to apologize to everyone and offered us some port wine. No one from our table took his offer, but they all raved about how wonderful the food was. We then waited for our check and when it came back...the waiter said the entire dinner was on the house, compliments of the owner! Our jaw dropped and we couldn't believe it. He didn't have to comp the entire dinner for a minor hiccup. Everyone left the restaurant happy about the food and in shock about the way our minor hiccups were handled! They certainly went way above and beyond our expectations! To those who are in the hotel industry, if you want to impress your guests or clients...I highly recommend Cafe TIRAMISU. My guests and I left with great perception of their service and they made me look good!

I came to this restaurant with a friend not expecting anything and was pleasantly surprised. I've been pleased with most restaurants on Belden Place and this one is not a disappointment at all! I was very happy with my ahi tuna - it was cooked to perfection. The pumpkin soup was quite yummy as well...also if you make reservations using open table, you get 20% off your tab. That was definitely a great surprise as I didn't know that coming into the restaurant. The place can get packed so make reservations.

Not much to say -- excellent food, excellent wine, excellent service. Pricey, but not unusual for San Francisco. I had lamb and my husband had steak. . . both were cooked perfectly and delicious. You absolutely must save room for dessert and order their dessert sampler -- it's to die for. Also, take their recommendation on the wine; they know what they are talking about and end up making a great pairing.

At first, I did not expect too much on this restaurant, as I tried B44, Plouf on the Belden Pl, B44 was ok, but Plouf was horrible. My view on this restaurant has totally changed tonite.

I ordered Lobster Bisque, they made a nice looking by having half side of pea soup and half of lobster soup. Pea soup was light and favorness, which made an excellent match with heavier texture of lobster soup.

Appetizer was Black ink rice with Lobster..., excellent!!! Much better than the Negre Paella from B44 next door. Portion was large enough as an entree.

Then I ordered the Duck Config Spagetti..., yummm..., so tasty. The spagetti was freshly made and the duck meat was so tender and juicy. Mixed with tomato souce..., oh my god..., I will come back again for this dish.

My friend also ordered Lobster cioppino. Spicy seafood soup with 2 kinds of fishes, potato, tender shrimp, scallop, mussels, clams and of course, half lobster. You won't regret to order this plate.

Last, we had Lemon blueberry Creme Brulee..., it was ok, as I was so full at this point. I was expecting to have coffee creme brulee, but seemed that's the seasonal menu kinda thing.

Overall, this visit was full of surprises. I vote it as the best restaurant on Belden Pl.

Last night I had to scramble for a place to take 8 out of towners to dinner. One person was a vegetarian and two people hated fish - not an easy crowd. I wanted to take them to Beldon Place because it's such a cute area but most of the restaurants there are mostly seafood. I called at 6:30pm to make a reservation for 8:30 and they were able to accomodate us and when we arrived we were immediately seated. The food was incredible! Beyond delicious - a few people at the table said that it was the best meal they had ever eaten - and everyone was extremely impressed with everything on the table including the wine. This is the first review I've ever written - although I always check reviews on Citysearch - I actually felt compelled to write this and would recommend this place to anyone and everyone - has to be one of the best places in the city.

Cafe Tiramisu was a splendid lunch choice. Instead of a boring burger or tired salad I had black ink risotto with scallops. This was listed as an appetizer but was a perfect luncheon size. I ate alone and was treated royally. The dish was absolutely delicious and the menu offered so many other wonderful choices -- must try it for dinner someday. It was very busy and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Seemed to be a large business crowd. Cafe Tiramisu is on unique Belden Place, pedestrians only, with outdoor seating. A real find.

We made reservations for a party of four. When we arrived on time for our 7pm reservation, the host told us we were a bit too early. We were asked if we would like to dine outside in the very chilly weather (we declined...) At 7:20pm were were told, that they were running behind and we should go have a drink at Belden Traverna a few doors down. The hostess escorted us to Traverna and said she would come get us when a table was ready. At 8:15 the manager of Traverna told us that the host of Taramisu told him we should eat at Traverna, because they were not going to ever be able to seat us at Tiramisu. We gave up our notion of having a romantic dinner at Tiramisu and had dinner at Traverna . So "no experience" at Tiramisu"

I went for a late lunch at aroung 2 p.m. It was a major disapointment...... it took over 10 minutes for a waiter to bring a menu.

The menu sounds like a great Italian selection and I picked chicken with roasted potatos and some sauted greens.

Chicken was burned and dry as a bone, flavorless but definately sized to feed at least 2 people. "Roasted" potatoes were deep fried, cold, and hard as a rock. The greens needed salt and pepper.

The food was barely warmed but the plate was hot which only means one thing- it was sitting under the warm lamp for a very long time, considering that it took over 25 minutes to bring the plate to the table.

The service was totaly indiferent. I ended up paying over $30 for crappy food and lousy service.

Don't waste your time on money. Find another place to eat.

Pros: great location, excellent food, friendly service

I love this place! I take all my clients to dinner there. Its by far the best rip-eye in town. Not what you'd expect from an italian restaurant, but the Borrello wine sauce is to die for! The wine list goes on and on. And the staff --I've love them. Did I mention the deserts? They are all homemade every day. You'd be crazy to pass this place up!

I headed over to this cafe today and I was pleasantly surprised. We waited for about 10-15 minutes and then were sat outside. It is a little tight, but it is in an ally with a bunch of other restaurants so I thought it was understandable. I had the crab/lobster ravioli and I thought it was absolutely delicious. The seafood was so fresh and the sauce was fantastic. My fiance had the caesar with crab meat on top, delicious! I really enjoyed the meal.

The service was really poor for the price that you pay. The seating was really tight outside, and I'm a small person. I was rubbing elbows with the people to the left and right of me. It was crowded and very noisy. The chicken I had was dry. Save your money and go to another restaurant.

I first came to the Cafe nearly 2 years ago during my first ever visit to San Francisco. I started with the steamed mussel appetizer, followed by the rack of lamb entree', finished with a desert sampler for the table (I recommend as you get a little serving of each of the desserts for about $8 per person.) The food was exceptional, service hospitable, and the setting was quite entertaining. We were seated in the wine cellar, although tiny and loud, it was an experience. My next visit was dissapointing. I again had the lamb entree' which seemed as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp waiting for the veal scallopini to arrive. My girlfriend ordered the Sea Bass, cold at first, sent back, only to arrive then overcooked. Our server was rude and unattentive. We left with a disspointing feeling nearly spending $150 for dinner for three.

Just returned from Italy and went to Tiramisu. It was better than Tuscany. The porcini salad was fantastic. The mussels--yum. Although it was very crowded we never lacked for service. Would definitely return.

My partner Byron Hancock and I,have been going to dine at Tiramisu since shortly after their intial opening(late 80's early 90's!) We are always treated with kindness and respect, the owner Pino is an extreemly gracious man, who makes everyone feel welcome! His charm, wit, and professionalism is always refreshing! The food is always consistently good(and I am a vegeterian and difficult to please!) The atmosphere is charming, at times loud, but cozy, intimate, and clean! I would highly recommend Cafe Tiramisu, for a night of Southern European dining! If you have not yet experienced Cafe Tiramisu I would urge you to do so!

This place is packed on a Friday night. But if you don't need to sit outside (it's too cold and too many birds flying around anyways), you can get a table quite easily. The food is not really worth the price ($15-$20 per entree), for the taste is not that special and the quantity not that plenty. The taste is to my liking, however. I ordered the gnocchi with fresh porcini mushroom. The gnocchi was too filling, but the sauce and mushroom was good. And the tiramisu was really good, in my opinion. I would come back again for the tiramisu, and try the other desserts. Besides the price, the tightness of the place was also a problem. We were literally 4 inches away from our neighbors, on each side. Perhaps on a not-so-busy night, the setting will be better.

Great little part of town to dine. The outdoor balcony is an excellent place to dine. The food is average and expensive. Waiters stand around and chat and hardly come to your table to check. If you are looking for a place to hang out then this would be it but don't expect to get your money's worth.

This place is so good. Get the black in risotto for an appetizer then move on in for the mixed seafood grill and finish it all of with the namesake dessert. Also, here's an insider tip: order the fresh strawberry port. It is out of this world

My friend took me to Cafe Tiramsu tonight, and I was blown away by the food, the ambiance, the value..... I am speechless...

C.T. offers a great selection of food, and the flavoring is just perfect... it is obvious that the ingredients they use are very fresh.... there are over 20 main entrees to choose from,... I had the chilean sea bass sardina risotto, and it was heavenly.....

for dessert, we had the sampler... to die for desserts are of course tiramsu, chocolate mousse, and the passion fruit sorbert...

what really tipped me over is the great value... my chilean sea bass was $22, shrimp & artichoke salad appetizer was $11, and sampler dessert was $8.... food portion was not skimpy...

the ambiance is lively, yet cozy the same time... the servers enjoy their jobs, and are very accomodating....

I high recommend this restaurant...

I have to say that I am usually a generous reviewer, but this was far and away a huge disappointment. The waiter was unbearably rude, the atmosphere was nice but didn't make up for the freezing outdoor seating, and there were no apologies when our order was forgotten in the kitchen. When our food did finally come, it was cold and overcooked. I've been a waitress and I can overlook a lot considering the behind-the-scenes dramas of the kitchen and staff, but when paying this much for a meal I at least expect to have problems acknowledged and apologies attempted. Even something as small as an offer of free coffee would have prompted me to give them another chance, but I have to say, try someplace else! There are lots of excellent restaurants next door, and this Belden Place bistro is hugely overrated!

Appetizers: Best mussels I've ever had in my life with a spicy tomato sauce.

Pasta: My wife had pappardelle with fresh porcini outstanding.

Steak: I had the rib eye steak. Mouth watering huge very lean. Eccellent

Dessert: Sampler plate for two very generous portion enough for 4. We still finished it all.

The waiter made very good suggestions. The service attentive.

The only downfall is the tight tables and it is a little noisy but truely great food. These guys know what they are doing.

Summary of a recent dining experience:

Reservation: Seated 45 minutes late (we had made reservations 2 days earlier)

Atmosphere/Seating: Nice atmosphere. People-watching environment. Not much privacy. Extremely noisy.

Service: Extremely poor. Our waiter was impatient, rude and slow. Not sure if he was just having a bad night, but it was unacceptable.

Food: Gnocchis were a little tough. Chilean sea bass was overcooked (it should melt in your mouth). Dessserts were good.

Overall: With so many wonderful restaurant in the City, you should probably avoid this one. With lackluster service and less-than-stunning entrees, you shouldn't have to pay for the abuse.

Excellent food - try the sea bass, the rib eye and/or the flourless chocolate cake. Specials can miss the mark occasionally. The place gets incredibly packed and the waiters do the best they can. Great place on a nice day. Key is avoiding the lunch rush (12:30 to 2).

One of the best restaurants downtown. Much better than neighboring and more popular restaurants, Plouf and Bastille. Great pseudo-European environment, huge winelist, and wonderfully delicious, constantly changing menu.
