Just wanted to write a quick note to say how thankful I am for Dr. Hunter. She was professional, compassionate, and patient enough to give me a thorough explanation of what was up with my sick Kitten Otto. If she was only moonlighting and worked somewhere during the day, I would definitely switch vets. What we paid for an exam, blood work, two prescriptions, and some fluids to hydrate him was reasonable and well worth the peace of mind it gave me. As far as the front desk staff, they were polite to me and I would probably cut them some slack if they weren't, considering 90% of the people they deal with are near hysteria. The only thing that keeps me from giving them a perfect score is that when a guy came in with a baby pig that had been attacked by a dog and was bleeding, they told him they couldnt help him at the front desk. They probably have valid reasons, but this was the guys pet, he didn't know what to do, and everybody in the waiting room wished they could've at least taken a look or helped get it stabalized until he could get it to a vet that does deal with pigs. Overall, very helpful and reassuring. Not a long wait and reasonable prices. Otto and i thank you.

By the way, I paid $295 for the services. Hope that info helps

I personally have only had positive experiences with Dr. Dawson and eagle rock emergency and I've been going there for years!! She has saved many of my pets and has been reasonable with her prices. Plus, her diagnoses have been spot-on; it's like playing detective with some of these cases.

I think Joan M's review of Dr. Dawson is completely inaccurate and offensive. Even SHE states the obvious: "Her advice was to leave my dog at the clinic for further tests and to keep her hydrated. I know how to do subcut fluids and after Dr. Dawson had administered antibiotics, fluids and something to help with the nausea, I decided to take my pooch home." Clearly, Dr. Dawson was aiming to help but the client refused to keep the pet there. The dog's main problem ended up being about a object or mass the dog may have swallowed that eventually had to be surgically removed. In my experiences, especially owning dogs that swallow things, sometimes they show up via xray; sometimes they don't. It's not Dr. Dawson's fault the owner was too stupid to know that. By the time her regular vet saw something on xray it could've been more obvious at that time. Who knows? This client, Joan M, should've been a little more understanding and a little less broke.

It's hard to see people on here who never appreciate the hard work and effort these doctors and techs put into our loved ones without being grateful and saying THANK-YOU. So to Dr. Dawson and the rest of the staff..... a big THANK-YOU for being you and doing what you do.

I ended up at this clinic over the Memorial weekend with a very sick pooch. I had good experiences in the past with this clinic but hadn??t been back in at least five years. Okay, the waiting time was insane but it was a holiday weekend and I was prepared to endure the wait. My pooch couldn??t keep water down, much less anything else, and I was unable to reach my vet.

The short version was Dr. Dawson wanted to do blood work and x-rays and I thought both suggestions were good because we had no idea (on examination alone) what was going on with my dog. Blood work was unremarkable, for the purpose of this critique, and Dr. Dawson came back returned with X-rays of my dog??s right side and full body. She thought she saw a small foreign mass, but she wasn??t completely convinced. Her advice was to leave my dog at the clinic for further tests and to keep her hydrated. I know how to do subcut fluids and after Dr. Dawson had administered antibiotics, fluids and something to help with the nausea, I decided to take my pooch home. The bill was over $500 and I would have been okay with this HOWEVER, my dog was still unable to keep anything down when we got home and when my vet opened on Tuesday, he saw us right away. He asked what the diagnosis was and I had no answer for him. He reviewed the films provided by the clinic and saw nothing. Being the extremely thorough vet, who is beloved by many, he also X-rayed my dog??s left side and immediately saw a very large foreign body. I asked him quite candidly if X-raying the left side was all it took to find a diagnosis and if Dr. Dawson had done this, would she have been able to give me a definitive diagnoses and he replied in the affirmative to both.

We had to do surgery and again, I was okay with this because my dog is the picture of health once again (knock wood) BUT the $500 I paid to the emergency clinic was completely wasted. I would have been happy if Dr. Dawson had merely made my dog comfortable until my vet was open but she didn??t. I might as well have taken $500 out of the ATM and burned it for all the good she did. I don??t know if I have any recourse for shoddy veterinary care but at least I can warn other pet owners to find a better clinic and I hope this review will make things easier for other caring pet owners in the LA area.

We took my old cat in for a possible urinary infection and we came out relieved. We were satisfied with the visit.
The front desk staff was prompt and friendly.
Dr Hunter (the vet) was very professional, calm, and took the time to explain rule outs, possible problems and directed us in steps to take in the future. She was very cautious and offered us options.
Only one vet technician could have been better, but overall, the experience was good and the price reasonable for a weekend emergency visit. Waiting time was not excessive even though they were busy.
Good luck to all

Worst clinic Ive ever been to. That graveyard shift "nurse" is not only extremely rude and real bad at customer service but she scared the hell outta me claiming my dog was dying. On top of that, there was absolutely NO confidentiality for she was talking down to me and dignosing my dog( keep in mind shes only the nurse) in front of other people in the waiting room!
i was asked to leave $1,000 deposit for my dogs C-Section and when I wasnt able to cough up that money on the spot she called Humane Services to file a report against me for animal cruelty.
Soon after that experience I rushed my dog to another clinic and within the hour my poor doggie was at a better clinic that not only was able to work with me FINANCIALLY but spayed my dog for free.
Now as a result of that nurse, I have the City on me.
Eagle Rock Emerg Clinic really offended me by assuming I wasnt caring for my dog when in reality they were way overpriced for a working student. That night was the worst ever.

I would not hesitate to take my dog there again if she needed it. They are very to the point, which might turn some people off but their priority is the pet not the person!

On 4th of July my dog decided to bite the router bit and almost completely removed her lower lip. I took her to Eagle rock knowing it was a holiday and thinking-this will be costly. She was taken in right away and within 4 hours was ready to go home. The staff was very professional and informative. Dr. Carla Robbins is my hero! She did an amazing job fixing what looked like an almost unfix able mess. When it came time to pay, I was pleasantly surprised that it seemed very fair and a respectable amount to pay. I feel very satisfied and will continue to use them if I ever find myself in need. I will also recommend them to anyone with emergency pet needs.

Keep away at all costs. The vet might be OK, don't know. But the staff... oh how horrible the night woman is, horrible! I wouldn't ever, ever recommend them. Ever.

We had a very ill cat, we took her to the Sunset clinic in the morning and the care was appalling - in the evening we took her to Eagle Rock, the staff was wonderful, kind and patient, the care was very reasonably priced and they treated us with the utmost respect. They have great vets and assistants on staff, and wonderful vets on call.

My dog woke me up crying with a twisted stomach and was bloated, I called them and they said it was not good and to rush in ASAP, I did they operated and basically saved my dogs life, they were honest with me on what could happen I accepted that and they did their job! They were professional and quick! I've been there several times in the past and each time they have done their job and saved my dogs life! I have saved their number for things like this and it was worth it!

It is what it is. A place to bring emergencies. The staff while not pleasant, were efficient and professional.

The waiting room was the last place in the world I wanted to be; really you are only there because you have to be.

But considering they may have one of the worst jobs in the vet world I think they do ok. Seriously? Can you imagine having to work the graveyard shift to treat every animal that may not live till morning. It might make you a bit bitter too. Other vets get to see happy healthy animals all the time, not these people. Only sad depressing cases and very upset owners cross their paths.

So yes, only go if you have to, but be thankful knowing they are there for you.

Emergency vets are expensive no matter where you go. I have been using the same emergency vet service for over 12 years and I have never been disappointed by the level of care.

I have gone to Eagle Rock Emergency Vet clinic for everything from dogs with broken legs, dying cats, and maladies of every flavor. They have handled it all with care and respect.

I have been a client of this place for the past 10 years, and every single time I have been there, the experience has been consistently the same = GREAT. When my old Lhasa started having health issues, he was here three times for bloat/gastric torsion. He was a crabby guy (his nickname was Bin Lhasa), but they always treated him kindly and compassionately. The third time the bloat came back, I decided to let him go, which they helped me do in a very gentle way.

The rescue Cocker that I got after Max died was also a client of this clinic, but only one time. Shortly after I got him, William passed out in the back yard in the middle of the night. I scooped him up and drove to the vet but he died in the car on the way there. The doctor confirmed his death and that was all that could be done, but the clinic was kind enough, after accepting my $80 payment for the visit, to REVERSE THE CHARGES to $40.

I feel very fortunate to live close to this emergency pet clinic. I cannot imagine having a dog and not having this resource when it is needed. They are fabulous.

I couldn't believe how great the staff was with my cat who got hit by a car. His eyeball was hanging out and he had a broken jaw. They fixed the jaw and stitched his socket closed and had him stable 6 hours later. He was actually purring when they brought him to us the next morning. The staff was very loving to my cat and showed him alot of affection. I took him back there the next night because I had more faith in them than my vet.

My great dane dog came in with a condition known as gastric torsion and bloat. They acted quickly, knew exactly what they were doing and remained calm the whole time. After they stabilized him, they had me take him to another place that could perform the surgery. The other clinic said that Eagle Rock did an excellent job stabilizing and preparing him for the surgery. Four days later, my dog is home and doing well. Many dogs that get this will not survive. If the owner and vets don't know about the breed and the symptoms, the dog will suffer horribly. Thank you Eagle Rock.

We've taken both of our dogs here on several occasions. One ate gopher poison another was just "not himself" -- panting, edgy, whimpering. On both occasions the staff were helpful. Don't expect a kindly grandma type to come hold your hand and reassure you, but do expect professionals who know what they're doing. Both of our experiences were great and they took very good care of our dog who ate the gopher poison. As for the big guy who just "wasn't himself" -- the vet tech looked at him, checked him out, and told us she thought he was ok. She gave us the option of waiting for the vet to do a once over when she finished her surgery or to come back later, or to just watch him and see how he did. So far he's been fine, and she didn't charge us a penny! I've also called them from time to time (once when our pitbull ate 2 dozen chocolate frosted cookies) and they've always been helpful. They are an URGENT CARE clinic. They don't know you, your dog, or its history. They do, however, know what to do in an emergency, and at 1:30 a.m. that's the best I can ask for!

I've taken my dog here twice. This clinic should only be used in emergency and usually just so your pet can be stabilized until you can get them to their usual vet. If you can wait until the morning, don't go here. The first time I took my dog here she had a really bizarre infection and a high fever. They put her on IV fluids and antibiotics until I could take her to her regular vet the next morning. If they hadn't been available my dog could have been in really bad shape with permanent damage. I took her there again when an unnoticed wound on her inner thigh got severely infected. It's a good resource. They are a bit cranky, but I have found that if I am patient and pro-active I will be treated well. I'm sure they get a lot of hysterical people who are difficult to deal with, so they appreciate it when you are calm and give a clear explanation of what happened. My neighbor took his dog here after our dogs got in a fight. His dog was pretty torn up, so if this place wasn't available we would have been out of luck. They did a good job at stabilizing her until we could get her to her vet. If you go here, you are going to pay minimum $250. They charge a $75 emergency fee just for walking in the door. It's for emergencies only!

We had to rush our neighbors tiny dog here after it got into our backyard thinking he was bigger than he was and fought with our big dog, the small dog was in critical condition and this vet was quick, thorough and explained all possible difficulties and problems. I can't say enough about how pleased we were regarding service etc not to mention the peace of mind we get having an emergency pet hospital this competent so close.

I am happy to say the little dog survived and lives to still torment our big dog through the new reinforced fence of course!

I can imagine no better way to recommend this clinic than to relate this story. When my cat was hit by a car right in front of me, I knew it was bad. Even though it was after business hours, I scooped her up and drove to the nearest place I rememberedseeing an "Animal Clinic"-type sign. Turns out they specialize in emergency care - the duty vet did the X-rays & diagnosis lightning fast, and managed to stabilize the internal ruptures & cracked vertebra. The next day she went to a full care clinic. It was a close-run thing, but two years later, she's just fine.
