So I decided to go here with my husband for dinner tonight, just for something different. Having been to Spain and loving the food in Barcelona, I thought this would be fun to try. As you may know, there are very few Spanish restaurants in LA, and none of them exceptional. Until today. Their short ribs, and the stuffed Quail will blow your mind. Calamari, and flatbread with 3 sausages, empenadas...plus the best Sangria outside of Spain ever! Yum yum! My husband and I have literally travelled all over the world, and been to some really amazing places. Honestly, this is in the top 10. It was fun, romantic, and great for people watching(depending where you sit). I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

Pros: Incredible Spanish food, nice decor, fun music!

Cons: a bit of a drive from West LA (but so worth it!)

If you want an authentic taste of Espana, this is the place to go! They offer tapas and sangria -- an just like you'd get if you were in Europe.
Four stars for the tapas. Drinks are admittedly $$$, and the wait service is not always prompt. But definitely worth a visit for the quality of the food and the fun atmosphere!

I THINK I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE. THE FOOD IS REALLY GOOD AND THE BAR IS ALOT OF FUN TO HANG OUT. THEY HAVE 2 HUGE SCREEN TV'S IN THE BAR AND 2 MORE FLAT SCREEN AT THE BAR. THURSDAY NIGHTS ARE THE MOST FUN EVERY. THEY HAVE GREAT MUSIC...THE DJ IS REALLY GOOD AND HOT! YOU SHOULD ORDER TAPAS AND SANDGRIA AND YOU WILL BE A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER.

Their tapas selection can be better. You can probably opt for a different restaurant if you're strictly looking for tapas. They have good entrees, but the salads were okay. Great ambiance and has a patio area right on Colorado Blvd in Old Town Pasadena.

Ok, I'm going to tell it like it is, no BS.
I use to love that place, but after the last chef left, the food just went down hill. Not only did the food quality go bad, but the price went up? Maybe the restaurant should be run by real Spanish owners who take pride and quality in authentic Spanish cuisine, instead of the Chinese owners they have now, who only care about profit and just don't know anything about Spanish food. Let me ask this, would you really want to eat at a authentic Chinese restaurant owned by non Chinese owners???

That's the honest truth.

Bar Celona which is a very cool tapas place. It's full of red and black decor, comfortably chic. We hung out on one of the couches since we weren't eating dinner. Good appetizers, okay drinks (I don't recommend the white Sangria). There is a room by the bar that drops down a bit which gives it a "separated feel" with wall size big screens--perfect for a party!

I went here for tapas on a Friday night with some friends. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, but the food was just okay. I thought it was overpriced. I think i expected too much.

Alright so after reading a bunch of review for Bar Celona...I almost cancelled my reservation and went somewhere else. I'm very glad I didnt! First of all, the service was awesome! We arrived 30 minutes early and the hostess suggested we have a seat at the bar and she would get us as soon as a table opens up. We had a white and red sangria at the bar and tried a couple tapas. Everything was delicious. Of course, you're not going to get the same flavors and feeling as you do at a restaurant in Spain. The bar waiter was very nice and answered all our questions. The food came out quick and was presented very well. We were seated at exactly our reservation time. The waittress did not come to our table for several minutes and I began to think - maybe the reviews were right. The hostess noticed that were still sitting there and came over. She was very apologetic and offered to take our order and even suggested a few items off the menu. The waitress came over with our food and apologized for not seeing us. The rest of the night was perfect. Very friendly and quick service, always with a smile and no attitudes. The food was good and, in my opinion, not over priced. This is not an inexpensive restaurant but definitely not "over priced" as some others have mentioned. Bottom line: food was good, service was great and I am very happy that I didn't listen to the other reviews.

Their menu seems to be overpriced, especially for the tapas, but I guess you could blame that on the location. The interior design is dark and moody, which sets a nice tone, but the food doesn't really follow through. We tried to the tapas platter and enjoyed the empanadas especially, but we were disappointed in the other things we ordered. The salad was drenched with raspberry vinaigrette and the seafood paella was very salty and not that special.

My mom and I were roaming around Colorado Blvd and randomly stopped in because of how delicious a womans Sangria that she was drinking on the patio looked. We got seated and each ordered a sangria, mine red and hers white, which came out quickly and was wonderful! Full of flavor and it was during lunch time so it was only $8. Everybody gets free olive tempenade with bread, which was great, and we shared a garlic mushroom tapa that I really loved. For a lunch entree my mom got the pork sandwich which had great flavor. Not only the pork but the bread too. I got the seared ahi tuna salad which was filling and full of taste! Our drinks came out fast but the food definitly took some time, but it was alright because it felt so peaceful outside on the patio under the overhang in the hot heat drinking our sangria!

Rude service, bad food. The only thing this place has going for them is the look of the place. Hopefully they do some improvments soon!!

The atmosphere was fine, waiter rude and aloof, the shrimp tapas delicious. Having lived in spain for a while i was disappointed by the flavors and, of course, the prices, i realize this isn't spain. Our server was disinterested, several of our party caught him rolling his eyes while we ordered. To top it off we were asked to leave, none to nicely, as we talked post dinner. The manager actually told us we were holding up another group that had been waiting. Very Rude and unexpected especially given the prices.
I would not recommend going to this place.

Mussel tapas & seafood entree smelled stale. I tasted about 5 mussels and everything I had to spew them out, EVERYTHING, and I ran to bathroom and rinsed my mouth.

No appology has been heard from chef or manager or waitor. Waitor even made fun of my accent and just said "ok. I will let chef know." After that, only I got was immediate check I had to pay in full.

Very unpleasant and disappointed and disgusting experience.

If anyone need to have food in this restaurant, please check every food before you put them into your mouth. Don't even try one, otherwise you have to pay in full.

I don't know what i was thinking. I have read descent reviews and thought I should try it. The bad reviews are very accurate, Bad Rude Service, Tasteless food, Loud Music (can't even have a conversation), and the food took too long for the quality. I am a fan of spanish food, but Bar Celona doesn't have a clue of the concept. The only good thing is the drinks. It's truly BAR celona.

So my first time at a Tapas place, and as soon as we got there, they gave us this olive pesto with bread, which was delicious, I think we had at least 3 orders. The service was great. The prices were reasonable, we had a chicken sandwhich nd palata bravas (potatoes with garlic) and both were great, but they had soo many options, I'm def going to have to go back and try all their tapas. Go sit outside on a nice sunny day, it's def worth it.

I have been wanting to go to Bar Celona for while but it took a while to convince my husband to go. We finally went to Bar Celona for the first time last night and I have to say that I am so glad I did. First off, the decor and ambiance is lively, festive and yet modern. Since tapas are for sharing, there were a lot of big groups but there were also an equal number of couples there also, so a nice place for a date. Our waiter was fairly prompt with our order. I had a red sangria to drink and it was so delicious! The tapas we had were lamb empanadas, crab croquettes, albondigas (to die for!) and a tapas sampler, which came with two empanadas, grilled shrimp, a torta and mushrooms. I can't say anything bad about any of the tapas we had - they were all good! Plus, the olive tapanade they give you to start off with was the best tapanade I've ever had anywhere. To finish it off, we both had dessert. I had the flan, which was so dense and caramelly - really superb! My husband had the chocolate and banana crepe, which he liked a lot. Overall, I had a really nice time there. The only complaint might be that my husband didn't get particularly full by the food that we had, although we spent close to $100 there.

We were seated immediately. Our order (Drink & Food) was taken right away. The drinks came quick. However, the food took more than 30 minutes. The appetizers were pretty good but the portions were too small. The pricey paella was so tasteless and the rice wasn't cooked well too.

wedding can be stressful, we hosted Bar Celona. We reserved the Flamenco Room for our rehearsal dinner. We had 35 people and it was a great place to start our wedding weekend. The food was amazing, some of our guests had never had Spanish Food and they loved it. The Sangria is the best. The banquet dept. made it simple to plan our dinner. We will be back.

I made reservations in advance but that did no good. I had to wait over 30 minutes on a weeknight to get seated. Once seated the service was simply awful. Our waiter took a drink order came back took a food order then never came back! I had to call anotehr waiter and he helped. The tapas were so so for the price. But the big issue was getting our entree. One of the two came and it was cold. The second one came 40 minutes later. At that point we had them take it all back and left. With so much competition in Pasadena you would think they would try to impress. At some point they will loose business. They have lost mine.

Went here w/a friend for tapas. Considering it was still early and the restaurant was hardly full, it took a while to get seated. Our waitress was nice, but it wasn't easy to get a hold of her. The tapas were ok, nothing great, especially for the price. Don't know that I would go again -- there's much better food available around Colorado.

this guy took me here on our first date last night. excellent choice on his part. the waitress was very helpful and helped us choose a bottle of wine and tapas that complimented each other. she put up with us when we were taking forever to order. the food was phenomenal. he got steak and i got pollo asado. both tasted great. they both had the most unexpectedly great seasoning on them-- it had a little kick. there is also a bar attached to the restaurant. they had live music. it sounded great and it was a fun atmosphere to hang out in. definitely a nice restaurant. a little pricey but worth it

I don't think I'd go out of my way to have a meal here again, but if you have dinner here please do yourself a favor and try a "flamenco kiss". It is a yummy mixture of vanilla vodka and frsh sqeezed strawberry juice,s erved in a martini with a strawberry as a garnish.

Oh, and pray that the a/c is working!!

If you are roaming around old town pasadena, and want a bit to eat, this would be the place. I don't think I would make a special trip just to eat there, since the food is average and you can probably find plenty of better places in hollywood or the westside if you are looking for the trendy scene.

biggest compaint is the rude staff. i called in advance and was told by TWO people that the lounge is STRICTLY first come first serve - NO RESERVATIONS. we came around 9pm...the place was pretty dead. we ordered the sangria which was relatively good, but did not live up to all the hype about it. the place didn't start to get crowded until after 11pm. even though we had a big group and staked out our spot early on, some idiot rudely said there was a "reservation" coming through and that "we'd have to make room for them"...even though their policy is first come first serve. no please or thank yous, btw. if you want a place to hang out with your friends with comfy seats and don't care much about anything else, go to bar celona.

We had made reservations and when we arrived we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. The server greeted us to our table. We order some tapas and for entrees the fillet mignon and a paella valenciana. The food was amazing. The service needs some help, like food coming out a little late and not refilling our water, but the great food made up for everything. Try the crab croquettes and the meat and cheese plate, delicious, and the Nora white wine.

My wife and I arived on a Saturday night around 6:30. The hostess asked if we had reservations and I told them no. They seated us promptly. The place was pretty empty. So we get seated in a really bad spot against the wall where its hard for a waiter to get into. We get served water and bread but never saw a waiter. We waited 15 mintes and my wife let the hostess know about the service. The hostess let the waiters know. We waited another 5 minutes and walked out. Waiters were standing around on their cell phones doing nothing. We were dressed casual with coats. When we left the hostess said thank you for coming. I just told her service was really bad and we would not come back. Don't subject yourself to this bad service when there are plenty of other places with good food arounnd.

My friend took me here for my first try of Tapas. It was incredible! Everything we ordered was amazing, the flavors in the dishes complimented each other very well. On a previous occasion I had gone to the bar/club section and my friend ordered Empanadas, but I didn't like those, too much fried dough for my taste, but the atmosphere was great. People could just lounge around or dance a bit.

I went here tonight for the first time, and have to say I was impressed. The food was great, the service was great, and the ambiance was very good. They have a nice selection of tapas, plus soups, salads, paella, and other entrees. They also have happy hour specials on tapas from 3-6pm, and some of them choices are about half price. I recommend the chicken empanadas and the fritatta. They also have outdoor seating, right on the sidewalk, which is nice if you like to people-watch.

Best part about this place is the atmosphere. Nice decor, in a good location, but it gets really crowded in the evening. I only tried one thing from the tapas menu, which was ok, nice-sized portions though. Paella was not the greatest. Prices aren't reflective of the food quality, in my opinion. Probably wouldn't go back to eat, but fine for after-work drinks. I would recommend Ciudad in Downtown for better tapas.

PROS: happy hour
CONS: average-quality food

I travel a lot and when in spain have always enjoyed the tapas restaurant. This is right on the money and so much more... live music, great staff... and a great bar scene.

who knew Pasadena could be so hip!!

Pros: Food, bar scene, service

This place is horrible. Service and management totally unable to provide for patrons. Food came out cold, inadequate portions, and definitely not worth the price. Reservations were lost, and we waited because there was not enough staff to seat us.

The best suchi and atmosphere for it are at Wok 'n' Roll Suchi! The fish is fresh and the variety of items are in a wonderful selection of the menu. The service can use a little improving. It's a fun and tasty place to eat!

check out the daily 3pm to 6pm happy hour time discounts on sangria. They have tons of mixed drinks - I especially like the Oceans 12. Expect to pay about $10 per drink, but you won't need many drinks to catch a buzz. The tapas are decent, but nothing stands out in particular. Best to go on a week night and get great bar service. Recently I went on a very busy night and was shocked how rude the bar hag was. She kept telling customers to order something else if she didn't feel like making it!?!

PROS: Good drinks
CONS: Can't handle a busy crowd

I ate at Bar Celona about two weeks after getting back from Spain, and I ended up setting myself up for defeat. The tapas were not as creative or as good as I thought they should be, and the selection was a little smaller than expected. The tortilla was bland despite being topped with a sort of salsa. Also, paella typically takes about 30 minutes to prepare and ours came out in much less time than that. Keep in mind however, the name represents what their strongest attribute is. The wine list was good and the bar scene appeared fun and lively and quite aesthetically pleasing. They have tons of mixed drinks and I don't think I would mind going back for happy hour. I think when it comes to the food though, I'll hang on to my memories of Spain.

Food is good. But if you are a REAL SUSHI person...it's ok. This is more for people who are learning to eat japanese food.

With a terrific spread of finger foods and stomach filling paella, mojitos and sangria, Bar Celona is a great upscale location for a friends' birthday treat, a special date, or warming a business relationship.

And more... a springy hardwood dance floor, DJ, and bi-level bar with a seating pit lined with cushy sofas for the weary of body. The architectural layout of the building, and the multi-level interior add a layer of accoustical sophistication to the whole design, giving diners, dancers, and drinkers quiet spots within the larger milieu. For romantics that require a bit of moonlight, there's even some outdoor seating with shrubs and heaters.

It is, in short, the smartest club/restaurant/bar I've encountered in many a year. I'm impressed.

Pros: pure night time fun, snacks to full meals, great layout

Cons: very busy at night

The tapas here are decent, but nothing stands out in particular. They do have some different items on the menu including a sausage dish and a calamari dish that isn't fried. Sangria here is pretty good though, but overall, nothing too spectacular.

This tapas bar is in the former Sorriso space, and it looks pretty much the same, except for Spanish paintings on the wall instead of Italian. The tapas are reasonably priced, but the quality/taste is uneven, varying from not very good to excellent. Recommended dinner tapas: fried almonds (sounds weird, but good), chicken empanadas, fried potatoes (very garlicky). The frittata sounds delicious, but tastes surprisingly bland. The beef/pork meatballs would have been delicious, but they were extremely salty.

Fun atmosphere, cool bar, great tapas (though not the best paella I've ever tried). Check out the back patio in evening.

Finally, something a little different in Old Towne. I believe this is the only Spanish restaurant in Pasadena and it's got a great vibe to it, not to mention it's location is best. There were no waiting time, but the bar was busy. The food was average (the portions were not enough compare to other Spanish cuisines elsewhere). It's a great spot to hang out for a drink and some food on the night out.

The drinks are all great, made from top-shelf liquor. Be sure to try the vodka that they soak vanilla beans in, it's quite delicious. Expect to pay about $10 per drink, but you won't need many drinks to get tipsy. The tapas are delicious and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is classy but the bartenders are very fun, down-to-earth people. Definitely a fun place to check out if you've got a couple twenties burning a hole in your wallet.

Not as hip and fun as Weho's cobras and matadors, but the best place for Spanish food in the valley. Still new enough that there's not week-night wait.
