I was looking for a spare tire. Thought how I saw tires there and they might have a cheap spare. I called them gave them the size and asked if they had any tires they said yes and hung up. So I called them up and asked for a price, they told me $30-35.
So the next morning I go over there and said I needed a tire and they asked what size and I said well it should be 195 70 14 but I have a 215 70 14 on it now. They cut me off and said look what size do you want? No this size and that size just tell me a size.
OOOOKKAAYY, so I told him, the Grumpy, portly Chinese (yes) dictrocat and he had his worker get a tire and he told me $40, I said you told me $30 yesterday on the phone.
He said look I don't want to discuss the price with you, Do you want it or not?
Well I really needed it so I took it and paid.
I feel sorry for their workers, they are treated like serfs.
How they stay in business is amazing.
Tom appears to be a nice hones guy. The truth is Tom does not listen to his customers and takes their money by pretending not to understand what they are saying. He just keeps repeating the same story in broken English until you pay him out of desperation. He uses his broken English as a cover to over charge his customers.
I would like to thank Tom, Shirley and Al for their family approach to my auto needs. I had no time during the week to take care of my BMW service needs and did not want to spend my weekend looking for a tech, all be dammed if they did not call and report to me their findings in 20 min's. I was called 3 hours later that all had been fixed and they found broken items i did not know about, I checked them and all be darned if they had not saved me major time and money , their mechinic is very on it NO all the way on it the bad reviews are ahh never mind land of the free frak um I love u guys THANK YOU see U soon.
For over two decades, I've patronized Tom and Shirley's (and son Al's) Miller Ave Chevron near-daily, as I commute 130 miles between Mill Valley and Silicon Valley. Their flawless service and genuine courtesy are always a bright spot in my day.
Apart from gas, they're also tire & wheel balancing and flat repair experts, and have resolved subtle & elusive smog issues for me (including on vintage Porsches, with original fuel injection...no small feat).
Highest rating...and while I've seen customers approach the staff with stunning, imperious, arrogance and impatience (sadly...not uncommon in Marin), the response from staff has always been nothing less than cheerful and professional.
Excellent, Fast, Friendly full service station. VERY informative and knowledgeable. Worth the few extra pennies for the Best gasoline for the environment around. They take pride in their stations appearance (ever notice the planting that Shirley does up Ethel...use to be a DIRT gravel Lot) they go out of their way, an asset to our community.
Excellent service, fast and competitively priced, truly a family run business -my mother in law referred me as she has been using Tom and Shirley for years -I still can't believe that last review -sure Tom has an accent and he has brusque no nonsense manner but he along with his wife and son couldn't be nicer or more helpful people.Don't judge a book by its cover..
By far the best service station in Mill Valley. After years of experimentation with automobile maintenance in Mill Valley, Sausalito, Strawberry, San Rafael, and even San Francisco, I have found that, by far, Tom and Shirley's Miller Avenue Chevron Service Station provides the best expert service at affordable prices. I have had both routine checkups and major overhauls performed at the Miller Avenue Chevron Station and have found only excellent service conveniently and affordably.
The cashier flipped out when I told him that the other chevron charges $4 to replace my tail light and he was $10 as I was looking throughy my wallet for the $. He yelled "take out, over and over again. I couldn't believe it! I paid and thanked the man who installed, then the cashier yellled at me and flipped me off!
Pros: the workers were nice and good
Cons: the cashier is completely out of his mind-abusive, very
