Interesting atmosphere, however a total disappointment. First time there. Decided to bring some out of town guests there. Hostess was very nice, but it went downhill from there. Cramped tables. The four of us sat down and received a small plate with four tiny pieces of bread! Waitress/co-owner(?) had terrible attitude. Large prime rib dinners had absolutely no flavor, huge amounts of fat. Had to ask for au jus, which arrived tasting like warm water w/fat. SO VERY DISAPPOINTING. So expensive for the service and food received. Going out to dine should be an enjoyable experience. THIS WAS NOT. Would suggest saving your money and dining somewhere else.

Not gonna get to wordy on this, it was just plain awful!!
Slow service, crappy food, even mixed up the bill from another table! At least we now know where NOT to go!

I have been in the hospitality/catering business for 15 years. I have NEVER had food that had as much imagination and flavor as Bootleggers! I met the owner/Chef and let him know right away that WE WILL BE BACK!

Ty Rowe, owner of Bootleggers, is quite a culinary artist.

This Old Town Auburn restaurant continues to deliver consistent and tasty lunches and dinners.

"Bootleggers" is the place you take your out-of-town relatives for an impressive meal, without breaking the bank.

Don't get me wrong: Bootlegger's is NOT cheap.....they're rather pricey (for Auburn) but overall they would be comparable to a night out at a posh San Francisco or Beverly Hills bistro (without needing to travel to the "Big City"....LOL).

PLEASE: DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS TO THIS PLACE..... you will ruin the atmosphere for other diners who are trying to impress their out-of-town relatives......

My favorite is the "Mixed Grill", an entree that provides generous sampling of three different meat items from the menu (usually beef, seafood, and chicken or pork).
My wife loves their lamb dishes, and daughter usually chooses the Skirt Steak entree.

Pros: Great food, moderate prices, nice setting

Cons: crowded on some nights, can be rather noisy sometimes, OK service

Bootleggers has always served great food in a great atmosphere! The roasted garlic appetizer is yummy. You can't beat sitting on the patio on a hot summer night with a glass of vino!

I have to say, I found their dinner menu lacking. What we did order, however, was very good. It can be a bit pricey for both lunch and dinner, but I have always enjoyed the meal when I got it. The prime rib is very good, and the steaks as well. Their lunch menu is more impressive with excellent salads and gourmet sandwiches.

Bootleggers is a good place to take a load off after a day of sightseeing. Located in a nineteenth-century building that was once Auburn's original city hall, Bootleggers not only provides a hearty meal but also a bit of history. The menu…
