After years of being warned to stay away from Aquatech, I had a fin box repair on my prized Pavel and was convinced by a friend that things had changed there. I was encouraged when they answered the phone (which hadn't been true in the past) and told that turnaround times had improved.

Well, the good news is that I got my board back quickly, within a week. The bad news is that the fin box looked like it had been repaired by a blinfolded chimp with a router. It was apparent that NO measuring or alignment had been done to determine where the fin box would be dropped in. The board is a quad, and the replaced box had twice the cant of the other three boxes, was too close to the tail compared to the other side, and worst of all, was toed in much more than the others. My wife, who has never surfed a day in her life, looked at it and could instantly tell it was totally screwed up.

To make matters worse, the repair was sloppy. They had routed out way too much foam just for replacing the box, and had even damaged the rail. The set screw on the box was protruding from the bottom even when screwed in all the way. There were bubbles everywhere, and the job was not even smoothed out properly.

These guys are hacks, bush league, butchers, whatever. The next morning I was in the water telling the local crew what had happened and most people said they've heard nothing but horror stories from Aquatech repairs, including Futures boxes being replaced with FCS, wrong depth futures being installed, you name it. Apparently the whole world knows not to trust these guys with their boards, but somehow, they're still in business. Unbelieveable.

I'm not as angry that my cash is down the drain as I am that my #1 board is ruined.

STAY AWAY!!! And if you go, don't say you weren't warned.

I've had 5 custom boards made at Aquatech, all have been superb. Ken, Skip, Scott and the crew have been helpful, respectful and efficient. I've never surfed better boards; period. I've had four repairs done; only one was
a little sketchy. Highly recommended.

I brought my board here to fix a board I had just bought (Al Merrick) and was dinged on a recent trip to Costa Rica. I was expecting a quality repair that were in line with their prices (high). What I got was a half a$$ed job that didn't remotely blend with my glass job. On top of that the older guy that helped me out was kind of a j3rk (very dismissive and unhelpful. He circled a few spot on the board with a sharpie and didn't even take the time to clean them off. so I got a sucky repair and a few sharpie circles on my board. I did my next repair myself with a kit I got a the Rip Curl store and was much happier with the results.

After two prior bad repair jobs years ago.... I heard good things about the new repair crew at Aqua Tech and decided to give them a shot at putting back the fins that I ripped off of my new $900 Hynson Twinzer. I was imediately put at ease by Adam there .He assured me that it was a routine repair job, And I assured him That I would scrutinize their work on my Hynson, giving them every opportunity to back out of doing the job. when I came to pick up the board, I immediately saw that one of the fin plugs were set too deep, and the surrounding area looked like it was sanded by a monkey with a golf ball. Adam's Brusk response was "well Shawn will have to rip all this out and do it over" in a totally annoyed fashion. I stopped by two weeks after that to pick up the board ready or not. Upon arriving I saw that the board wasn't even looked at since my last visit so I decided I was gonna just take it somewhere else. That's when it got ugly..... I was told I couldn't take it with out paying. So then I asked to see Shawn (the boss). Shawn came out and told the me same. when I argued the fact that I had demanded a flawless repair, he said things "it'll ride fine"and "the angles of the fins are right". That's when I knew I was talking to someone who didn't understand quality or performance nor service. So I figured the hassle wasn't worth my time and aggravation so he cut me a deal for $40 ($75 original). I took the board and split. when I got home I put the fins back in, only to notice the ANGLES OF THE FINS WERE WRONG!!!!! So now after 3 1/2 weeks and $40, I now have something to get repaired that is more difficult than before.... nice...........
