This is a great place to eat if you have been out all night in hollywood. They're open late and the food is great to get that late night hunger out of the way. It gets really busy there on the weekends cause everybody knows that Sinam is the place to end their night after partying in Hollywood. The only bad thing I can say is that they only accept cash so plastic does not work there. Just remember to bring green in your pockets or else you will have to go to the nearest ATM and who knows where the nearest one will be.

My friend introduced me to this place and it was amazing!
We ordered a few entrees and they were all great! I tried things I never would have ordered on my own. We had radish cakes (amazing!), squid salad (spicy and amazing!), wonton soup with pork (I LOVED IT) and a noodle dish with shrimp pork and chicken...pad see ew maybe? It too was wonderful. Everything was quick and tasted delicious. Itis a small place always alot of people there but weve never waited more than 5 minutes for a table. It's cash only don't forget!

No doubt, Sanam Luang is terrific for late-night Thai food. But vegetarians, beware: there's pork in them there greens. Make sure you ask very specific questions if you are on a meat-free diet! Good pad thai if you don't mind the uncertainty.

I'm still looking for a comparable place to Thai Nakorn in Stanton on Beach/Chapman. I really thought this would be the one. It's really just more like Thai fast-food. It wasn't bad food, but they only use dark meat chicken (it's not clear on the menu). We also ordered pad thai and it came with a lovely strip of completely raw chicken mixed in the noodles. Good thing we mixed it before we ate or we'd be quite ill today. The waitress didnt' seem suprised, but took it back and gave us a new entree. Very low prices, but I'd rather pay a little more...unless I'm drunk at 2am and hungry for some quick Thai.

Our friend from Thailand took my husband to this cafe when they were in college. The Thai friend states that the food there is really authentic. My husband likes it and has been eating there since college. The variety of noodles is excellent. I like the General noodles with flat rice noodles. The Spicy Beef noodles are very good. Try the raw shrimp with spices and lemon. It's yummy and really spicy.

Rude servers, my friends came from other state and were craving for Thai food. I thought of this restaurant and I felt so embarrass for the way service was given. The servers did not care and served us cold food, spilled drink and gave us dirty look as it was our fault. My chinese friends asked about some item that they did not have at the time, server told us it was okay if we wanted to leave to other restaurant. I could not believe it!!!!!!!! That was service given if you are Thai or Asain, yet servers seemed to be a little bit more willing to help when American customers walked in. I gave tip base on service I was given, but they gave service base on races. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!! Since then I've never go back and never will. Too bad owner does not care about how the servers ruin reputation of his restaurant.

ONE OUT OF 10 HAPPY CUSTOMERS WILL TELL THEIR FRIENDS ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE;

ONE UNHAPPY CUSTOMER WILL TELL 10 OR MORE PEOPLE ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that some of the other reviewers just have an adversion to Hollywood. Yes Hollywood can be a bit nasty, but hey it's home. I had a great meal, the servers were nice, good tea, mixed ethnic crowd. The only issue I had is I had to walk up the street to the ATM because they only take cash. On my way to the ATM, I got cruised by some guy who I think believed me to be a "pro". Come one, it was Sunday afternoon and I am wearing hemp clothing and uggs boots, so not enticing! But I did manage to redeem my afternoon by a nice plate of chicken panang and some rice noodles. SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!

i have always been a fan of sanamluang in sherman oaks but since i ended up in the wrong branch which is here in hollywood blvd coz i dont live in this area then i had to settle eating here. my gps died so i didnt know how to get to the sherman oaks branch...Flies, Flies and flies everywhere... i needed to give a feedback about this restaurant somehow because of the rude servers they have... yes servers with an attitude of rudeness!!! They throw the plates, utensils, and napkins at you as you sit down, you have to set the table yourself. No greeting, no smiles, no words, just impatient blank stares when you're ready to order (as in "are you gonna order or what?"). I have no clue what to order in this restaurant since they said they are totally different from the sherman oaks branch. ARGGGHHH!!!!! And when the order is ready, of course, why bother set it on the table when they can throw it at the customer.i have told all my friends about not eating in this branch ever again!!!!!!!

It may not be a very "pretty" restaurant, and the parking may bit a bit complicated. But when I crave Thai food, this is THE place to go. Don't dress up, it feels a lot more like a cafeteria than a restaurant, but I promise you, the food is quality and the value amazing. Chicken pad thai, that has the best flavor of any pad thai I've ever had (and I eat a lot of pad thai), only costs $5.50. And a thai ice tea is only $1.50. The curries are great, and everyone I've ever eaten with here, was really happy. I think the best way to find out the best foods are to ask people who are experts in that particular food for advice. I've asked several Thai acquaintances where to go for the best thai food in L.A., and they all mentioned Sanamluang. If you care a lot about ambience and can't put up with a little bit of complicated parking then please go somewhere else. I'd rather you didn't go, complain, and post another misleading bad review.

There's also a Sanamluang Cafe at 12980 Sherman Way. This place is cheap and their noodle dishes hitt the spot, much like the Hollywood location. Parking in the lot is a nightmare, but luckily plenty of spots can be found on Sherman Way.

Last time I was here, I saw some Buddhist monks. If it's good enough for the monks, it's good enough for me.

I've been going to Sanamluang for about 10 years now. Their Thai iced tea, soups, shrimp cakes and noodle dishes are the best in LA--hands down--especially for the price. The service is actually quite good for such a busy casual restaurant. Once the waitresses began to recognize me, I found them extremely attentive. (A decent tip probably won't hurt.) I prefer the food and the clientele at the Hollywood location. Your parking choices are bad and worse, unfortunately: 1) Street parking in a dark and questionable neighborhood or 2) Stack parking in a tiny lot where an accident seems imminent and/or it'll take forever to retrieve your car. It's a great place to grab a bite after the clubs close but you might be fighting a late-night crowd.

This is a great place to get excellent Thai noodle dishes that are inexpensive an fresh. It's always crowded so you know its really good. Don't go expecting a white table cloth experience, just know you'll be getting an excellent meal for not a lot of money.

I have eatin at many thai restaurants in Los Angeles, but by far Sanamluang Cafe has the tastiest thai food. I am a big fan of pad thai, and Sanamluang cafe knows how to make flavorful and tasty pad thai. They load tons chicken, beef, shrimp, and eggs in there pad thai. The garlic pepper beef over rice is superb. Both items only cost me 12 bucks. I am sold on Sanamluang cafe and now they will become my regular thai spot.

I can't say there are all bad, the fried dishes, such as fried tofu, shrimp cake, are pretty good. Poor services just for Thai custommers(That's why I can see almost no Thai custommers eat there.) I ordered roast duck over rice, got only 4 small pieces of duck, better go to chinatown to get a lot more, and the better taste for the same price. The only good thing about this hunting place that they open late, and they got a best spot, so you all hungers may think it's good.

Motivated by the great reviews, I decided to give this place a try.

These were my impressions:

1. Flies. Flies all over, landing on my food, on my glass, everywhere...
2. This is great Thai food? Whoever said this needs to get reacquainted with Thai cuisine. This is not, by any standards, great Thai food. Mediocre at best. LA has the best Thai food outside of Thailand, and this joint clearly does not contribute to this fact. There are a million other Thai restaurants in the city you should try if you think what they serve here is good food.
3. What's with the servers with an attitude? No, this wasn't attitude, this was plain, old-fashioned nasty rudeness. They throw the plates, utensils, and napkins at you as you sit down, you have to set the table yourself. No greeting, no smiles, no words, just impatient blank stares when you're ready to order (as in "are you gonna order or what?"). And when the order is ready, of course, why bother set it on the table when they can throw it at the customer.

The one positive thing I can say about this place? It's dirt cheap. Then again, you get what you pay for. I'm sure most people would be willing to pay an extra dollar or two per dish in exchange for sanitary conditions (meaning, invest in one of those insect zappers. They're not that expensive) alone. A little courtesy from the servers and better food would help as well.

Go to this place ONLY if you're on a tight, tight budget, or if you're in the area, in need of food, and it's 3 am (closes at 4 am).

this place is cheap and DELICIOUS. it's got the yummiest, spiciest, best thai food i've ever had. I love the mint noodles in particular. The menu is huge and two people can eat for 10 bucks, and be completely full. My only complaints are that parking is horrible (an inept valet man and VERY limited street parking) and service can be really slow. But, whatever: the food makes it all worth it.

I don't get the folks saying the North Hollywood location is better. I've been there a couple times, and think the Hollywood one is better. Then again, it has a kind of Chinese thing going on with the food, and maybe that's just what I'm used to. When I ate meat, I really liked the duck with noodles. All their noodles are good. Their appetizers are good. I'm so-so on their Pad Thai and their rice dishes. Also, I prefer the kick-back outdoors mini-mall atmosphere to a formal restaurant, especially when the weather's great.

This is by far one of my favorite places to go. Their Thai iced tea with boba (tapioca pearls) is the most delicious of all the Thai teas that I've tried in Los Angeles. They're open super late, so it's a great spot to go for any occasion -- to get a drink, after a night out at the bar, for an afternoon snack, or for a huge and cheap dinner with friends. The ambience is super cheesy, but really fun. I highly recommend (in addition to the Thai tea): the tom kha-kai (soup with coconut milk, lemon grass, chicken, mushrooms, cilantro), spicy beef salad (cilantro, beef, cucumbers, lime juice, onions, lettuce), and all their pad thai noodles. And the satay with peanut sauce. I love how the menu has pictures, so it's easy to point to something and say, "oooh, I want THAT!"

As a thai food critic, this is by far the most unamericanized thai food and ambiance. Many curry's so there's a great mixture of food. If you want an alternative for late night denny's, there are egg dishes. You do have have to get the waiters attention so if you like undevided weighting attention you won't like it. I love that we could roll in after hours with a group of 8+ and we could all sit together even if on eachothers laps, and get such flavorful food, for little $. Oh and YOU NEED CASH, no C.C. accepted!

Finally found a place in LA with excellent Thai food. I think the biggest problem was that I was pretty much staying in my hood, the Westside. You don't go to Sanamluang for its ambience, but rather excellent Thai food! Dishes come in nice portions, are full of flavor and VERY reasonable! Service is great and super fast. Definitely try to get there before midnight because it tends to get crowded after!

Great place--strange yet oddly transfixing neon-metallic decor, a huge and diverse menu (with things you won't see in most other Thai restaurants), and great prices. This is my only Thai stop in the valley. Hey, I ate there last night! Open until 4 a.m. most nights.

PROS: Great, diverse food, at great prices

A great place to eat Thai food. A great after hours eatery. Im pretty much only there after hours on the weekend. I would recomend the #64 beef with eggs its awesome and the combination fried rice as a dish is never a dissapointment, Pad-see-ewe, and phad thia are excellent too. oh yeah with eggs on top! If you're there on a fri or sat the after hours rush starts at 1:00AM and continues till 3:00AM. So expect to wait for a seat. Service is fast and courteous, the area and building are old but was just renovated about 2 years ago, but the food is worth it.

This is a great Thai place, our favorite. It seems very authentic, one of the few Thai places that has a menu that really does consist almost entirely of Thai dishes, not disguised Chinese dishes. The portions are generous and it is pretty cheap. So far everything we have ordered has been good. Be forewarned: the decor isn't anything to write home about, parking is a disaster, and the neighborhood looks dicey enough that we only come for lunch, not dinner. But we still like it well enough that wedrive there regularly from the West Side, and take out-of-town guests there.

These guys have THE best pad thai in town. And the garlic beef over rice is awesome too. Ok, it's not exactly Spago's fine linen and scenery. But if you want great thai, regardless of the price, and this place is soooo cheap, then come here. AND, they're open til 4a on the weekend. Wether I've been partying in Hermosa or Pasadena, I try to come out here for those late nite munchies! Love this place! By the way, those late nite lines are kinda long, but SOOOOOO worth the wait.

Sanam Luang Cafe in North Hollywood is the best. The one in Hollywood is kindo of shadey, plus the waitresses are kind of snotty. If you do decide to have a meal at Sanam Luang, go to the North Hollywood Cafe. The selection is better, the people are more attentive, and they give you more food!

This unique eatery boasts a menu better than that offered by most Thai restaurants. Cash only at last visit, but worth the minor inconvenience.

Sanamluang in Hollywood is as ghetto as it gets. Ya, it might be "hip" but it is definitely overrated. There are plenty of Thai restaurants just around the corner...(I mean, c'mon, it's Thai Town for godsake. For better food, a more authentic (and cleaner) ambience, and "The Green Room" (karaoke room), try Krua Thai in Van Nuys. It's only about 15 minutes away from Hollywood and well worth the trip.

The food is nice. Price is reasonable. Only complain -- it's annoying to forcely require 15% tips to a group over 5 people.

sanamluang is cheap but mighty tasty. i always order the chicken over rice. the rice is slightly sweet, and they give you a cup of broth as well. get the seafood soup hot pot for your shrimp, squid, crab, mussel, fish fix. go here on a saturday nite, and you'll get lost in the sea of club hoppers. so service will be slow, but hey can't beat a late nite cafe that serves good food at great prices. you can get a whole dinner for under 10 bucks. don't forget the thai ice tea boba!

This thai restaraunt is one of the best hidden secrets in LA. I first went to Sanamluang in Hollywood, and a few months later, I accidently found the other one in the Valley. If you want a real Thailand experience, then go to the one in the Valley. Drinking Thai Iced Tea under the neon lights complete the experience.

I was disappointed. There are much better Thai restaurants. The ambience is terrible and dirty and the food is less than average.

I have been coming to SC for a long time now. The food is consistenly good, fresh and hot. The service has always been friendly and attentive. The hours are very long, so if you have an urge at 2AM for Thai food this is the place to get it. The area is a little sketchy, but other than that we recommend this place highly.

Just need to drop a note that this place is great for late night eating. When you are up at 1am, starving and don't know what to eat... come here! The crowd is... interesting, but the food is amazing. When you order spicy here, it certainly lives up to its potential. It will knock the alcohol right out of you.

This hidden treasure on Hollywood Blvd serves up some really good Thai food. Joint is small and has a "B" rating, but nothing will please you more than the tastiness of their food. Spring Rolls are delicious; Pad Thai is so good and flavorful. Everything was exceptional. I love everything about this place, except for the parking. It's really bad. They have a small parking lot, and it's usually packed. I did have an unusual experience for dinner once. I arrived at about 6:30pm on a Thursday night and the waitress greeted us and said they were closed. I asked when theyd re-open (Ive been there for lunch before), she said she didnt know and rushed us out. I would have gladly waited 30-45 min for them to open, but apparently that was not an option for her. Does anyone have their hours of operation?

AUTHENTIC AND CHEAP...that's what this place is all about. Its a great after hours place to eat at...I recommend the "combination fried rice" or their "pad thai" even the "cha-po" is good... I've been going here since 94 and the food has been great since day one. Props to Sanamluang...show them some love and try it out....

I went here for the first time recently and I was very impressed. Their chicken coconut soup was better than any I've ever had at Palms Thai or even Chandara. The shrimp cakes were fried perfectly, cooked just right but still very juicy. The prices certainly can't be beat. I cannot recommend this place enough.

I was pleasantly surprised on a recent visit to find that Sanamluang has expanded and classed itself up a tad. The seating area has doubled, the payment counter is less awkwardly located, and the restroom situation is much improved. The food? Well, it's as cheap and delicious as ever.

sanamluang shines as the king of cheap and excellent food. every thai restaurant i go to, i'll order the pad si euw to see how it stacks up against sanam. nobody can match the flavor sanam achieves -- the coconut milk infused pan fried noodles with a smokey, sweet taste. pile on the chili sauce for the full flavor of this dish.

the spring rolls are ace. order w/ a thai tea. the waitresses are great too. very friendly and will chat you up like you're old friends.

don't let the dull locale fool you. this place is top notch.
