My son has attended SPP since October; since then his social development has been incredible. The teachers are very effective at teaching the kids conflict resolution strategies, a skill which will serve them well in school and for the rest of their lives. The sense of community among the SPP families is one of its strongest points. It is a very diverse community, and everyone is made to feel welcome. It is a play-based program, and the kids get to choose from lots of possible activities - both indoor and outdoor. My son loves going, school is fun for him. The only negative might be the facility, it's not the newest or most fancy (it is perfectly safe, just not one of those shiny-new places). However, we are happy with the school, so that really doesn't detract from our experience.

Great teachers...I don't know how they think of so many different activities for the children. Great camaraderie among the parents. A very friendly group. Building is old but is spacious. Lots of outdoor play, which I feel is very important. I enjoy working on my working days. My son is VERY happy in this school and so am I!

This is wonderful place for both parents and kids if you want to get involved in totally rather just drop-in and pick-up. I wanted to be totally involved so I opted on basis of the open house as the days passed I was little disappointed as I didn't see families who gave me tour and spoke to me about the school. But i could leave with that.
This year they had wonderful teacher for pre-k and the class was really good exposure for kids and I am happy my child had at least some quality time at school because of T.Jane.

I am not trying to disappoint anyone the school is good for first year when a child is learning to socialize but later years not that great.
Other classes MWF and TTH were chaotic and some days very rough. Director I feel is not very efficient, she rather concentrates on couple of them. Last year some of the kids were wandering in the parking lot. When asked if school is liable she just laughed, I don't want my kids in a place where they are not safe. School is not ready for any kind of emergency as the board and teachers are so busy in other activities.
Lot of parents left the school this year. Very less returning parents and that was the case before year also.
Above all school is not professionally run.
Everyone says oh its your school but all it matters is in few people, they are so much involved in there own petty politics of judging and running school.
Cleanliness of school is far and so much junk lying around. After couple of weeks you just see and go. Because its how the management is.
When there are issued both teachers are very helpful.
If your kids are physically and mentally challenged kids this is not a right place.
NO new activities. Day in and out its the same
routine. I have never seen T.Dalia with book and ending circle.
Overall when I look back I feel maybe it was not a right place for my child.
I have read the other reviews most of the reviews written by parents of school and most of them left school .
My child has learned a lot but not all the credit goes to school.
This year school has very low enrollment the cause is quite obvious.

My kids and I have been a part of this preschool for the past 8 years. The school has had a strong director/teacher for the last 5 years and its core of committed parents have helped to foster a program that is warm, friendly, and fun! This group of families care for each child as their own, and support each other through life's challenges. The kids learn through a play-based model, which encourages each child's abilities, but exposes them to many different opportunities. The parent education is excellent. There are a lot of committments for the families, but the friendships and support received from the other families and the director and teacher far out-weigh the extra hours.

The multi-age classes enable students to learn from their older classmates, and then become the mentor to younger ones. The philosophy pushes learning through play, in a respectful and child-empowered environment. Children learn to negotiate their conflicts, build friendships that last, and treat others with respect.

The director Dalia Brown cares deeply for each family. She gives encouragement and feedback to help your child develop. She is an ally for all of us families.

In this day and age, when preschool kids spend most of their time doing worksheets cooped up inside their classroom, this school is like a breath of fresh air. Their teaching methods are very kid friendly and they have tons of field trips, nature walks and other awesome science projects. One time, the teacher taught the kids to build a volcano in the Sand box. Its a parent participation co-op and parents need to help with upkeep and maintenance. There is a time commitment for parents but from personal experience, it is worth every minute. They also have parent education seminars which are invaluable to me and my family.

This is a great coop school and comes out really affordable if both the parents are not working. You need to support the school in terms of working there for a few hours but it is nice to be there and see your kids enjoying the place. The only constraint is that your kid h as to be a min of three years to go to this place.

My son loves to go to preschool here. SPP is parent participation which I like because it gives me the opportunity to see exactly what my son is learning. But learning does not stop with him since parents are also learning from the teacher and other parents about how to teach skills and handle various social learning situations with the preschoolers. Because the parents participate and help run the school, it certainly requires a lot more time than other types of preschools.

PROS: excellent for kids and parents
CONS: big requirement on parents time

My daughter has been going to SPP since September. It's a great play based, emergent curriculum. The children have a lot of opportuinities to explore and learn and it's done in a fun environment. The director is very knowledgeable and very loving with the children and the parents. It's great to share in my daughter's creative process. They offer Parent Seminars where you can learn tips on how to be a better participant but also have to be a better parent. There's lots of room for indoor play and outdoor play.

My son has been going to SPP for two years. Early on I help out at the school when my wife just gave birth to our daughter. It is great to be able to spend time in school with your kids. The school has a great set up with a very big out door playing area. My son really enjoys the school. Our daughter will also be going to SPP when she is old enough.

My daughter has been at this preschool for nearly two years. She loves it! The director has a strong background in teaching to the whole child, and enjoys teaching science to children. This is apparent throughout the curriculum.

PROS: wonderful sense of community
CONS: parents do the upkeep, cleaning, administration, etc. of the school.

My son attended SPP for 3 years, and I was on the Board for 2 years. It is a great place for kids, parents, and families. Parents are not only involved in their kids' preschool experience, but they also learn to become better parents through parent education and they have the opportunity to make lifelong friends.

PROS: developmental, play-based, parent education, dedicated director
CONS: significant time commitment

My son has attended two different cooperative preschools and now attends "drop-off" programs, but he still talks about his days with "Teacher Rindala" at SPP. SPP's program is play-based, and the children really seem to develop a love of exploration and learning. Evening educational programs address common parenting issues, and there are lots of social opportunities. It's a great way to meet other parents, and to learn ways to contribute to your child's lifelong education.

This is a parent participation preschool. We came to this school after trying Stratford for our daughter. Was like moving from a diet of junk food to organic food.

The teacher Dalia is very experienced, very friendly and very knowledgable. The kids learn stuff by doing. They have lots of field trips, rain walks, nature walks. The bay area is a very rich people with people from diverse backgrounds and skills. In this school since parents function as teacher's aids, the kids get to learn not just from the teacher but from each parent, all of whom bring a whole myriad of skills to the table. My 4 year old has been going to this school for 2 years now. She loves it. My wife and I feel that this was the best thing we did for her.

Very very highly recommended.

I have two children enrolled at the school, and they both love it! They have made some good friends, and because of my involvement with the school I've formed some good friendships too! It is a small school where everyone knows everyone and their kids--a real sense of community.

It is NAEYC-accredited and has very high quality teachers. The play-based, emergent curriculum does a great job of teaching children while respecting their developmental needs.

PROS: Great teachers and community, wonderful setting

SPP is a co-op preschool in a very nice setting. My son has been attending for 2 years now. The teachers are warm and caring and the school has lots of distinct spaces for the kids to move around in. A great feature is that the outside play area has a lot of shade and a really huge sandbox.

PROS: You get to watch and learn along with your kids
CONS: It's more work than a drop-off preschool
