This pool hall gets busy so be sure to hit it before the crowds gather or it will be difficult to get a table. The service is good and the food is your typical bar but the atmosphere is definately fun.

Best Pizza in L.A.
by persianturquoise
This place seriously has the best pizza in L.A. I went with a bunch of girlfriends last night and we were seated right away. Although our waitress was a bit airheaded and forgot about us, she was sweet and polite. My con was how dark it was inside. I understand that its a sports bar as well, but I hate dim lighting.
Pros: Margherita pizza
Cons: Dim lighting

Terrible service by the manager
by psychnurse01
My family and I went for dinner at this resturaunt. I ordered the California Salad. When I got it there was hardly any chicken or other stuff on it. I asked the waiteress very nicely if I could change my order as I was dissapointed that there was hardly anything on the salad. She rudly told us to "hang on". The manager came by and rudly asked what the problem was. I again explained in a nice manner that for the money the salad was not worth the $15.00. He became very hostile with me and told me that "the salad was priced at fair market value" I explained that I would pay for the salad if it was worth the $15.00. He again insulted me by stating "you are in LA, this is what you get". I was apolled that he would talk to toursits this way. However, I live in LA so I am grateful that someone visiting did not have to go through this. I assertively told him that I would like the chicken burger instead of the salad. He said no. My husband was extremely upset and told him that we were leaving. He said that if we leave he would call the police. We stayed and waited. In the meantime, he would not comp our meals until 30 minutes later when WE called the police stating that the manager was holding us against our will. My mom spent 15 minutes explaining that he was in the wrong and that this is poor customer service. The manager did not care. He kept saying that I was being rude when I asked to change my order.
My 4 year old was crying and we of course left very upset. This happened all over a salad that I asked if I could swith because I was not happy!
I called today to speak with the General manager. The same manger that I dealt with yesterday picked up the phone. I asked politely if I could speak with the General manger. Again, he was rude without even knowing that I was the same person he was rude to last night. He refused to tell me how to get a hold of the general manger and demanded that I tell him why I was calling.
Terrible! Terrible! Terrible!
Pros: none
Cons: manager was rude! Threatened to call the police on me!

Horrible service/mediocre food
by CSMobileUser2
In this economy where each customer matters, the owner seemed to be unaware the fact that wervice matters. When we tried to tell him that my husband was unhappy with his meal he offered to wrap it up and we could take it with us. Rude and inconsiderate.

Football and Turkey Burgers!
by sgc2c
Whoa, I must say that this place pleasantly surprised me! Despite being packed, the servers were very attentive and nice. The big screens were top-notch and perfect for the NFL playoff games I watched. The food was also very tasty. The Turkey Burger is a must have! Prices were ok, after all this IS the promenade we're talking about. I would definitely recommend Yankee Doodles!
Pros: Good food!
Cons: Sweaty Eagles fans!

Terrible Customer Service

I would give it a zero if I could. Friday afternoon, we came in and sat at the bar, the bartender saw us but didn't say hi or offer any service. The bar was not busy.
Terrible!!!
No more Doodles.

Yankee Doodles Food Contamination and Sports DIve FIre Trap
by Pat66
The third street promedade is a shopping area with a vast variety of locals. Yankee Doodles is located on the Promenade. This place is a 15000 square foot dive with rude staff and lousy food.
This is the first time I came here and will not be returning after my hospital visit due to violent foodborne illness that left me dehydrated, expelling what I consumed, with watery evacuations, blurred vision, and massive headache. By the way, I had the wings and artichoke dip and chips. I started expellig my food 3rd quarter of the second game about 4 hours after I ate.
The bathroom areas are completely inadequate for the occupancy load with only two exits. One in the front and one in the back. If there was a fire in this placed the shared exits for the upstairs and downstairs make this place a death trap.
I can't believe the local fire department even allows this place to operate.
This is another case of our local officials allowing third country conditions to persist in violation of the fire code.
Pros: Lots of Video screens and pool tables.
Cons: Food, Service, Management

Worst restaurant, don
by jerryjk
My family and I went there on new years eve night. We ordered drinks and dinner. Our server was pleasant, For dinner I ordered the pizza and a rib dinner. When it came I took a bite out of the ribs, which were very dry. But, considering the kids were along, i decided to hold my opinion, and just make the best of it. When my margarita came, i tasted it and found it very sweet and syrupie, couldn't taste any alcohol at all. I called the waitress over, and asked if she would please add a little more alcohol in my drink, or take it back. she advised that i would have to speak with the manager, "jimmy". When "jimmy" came over, so did his attitude. He was sacrcastic and very condescending. I told him about the drink, and that he should taste it. He refused, told me that they mixed their drink once a day, and that since i sipped from the glass, i would have to pay for it, regardless. I asked him whether he cared about his customers being satisfied, and he replied by telling me that if i dont pay for the drink, he'll call the police. Our server was so upset by what the manager jimmy was doing, she came back and apologized. . Stay away from this place. It really should be closed down. Don't let anyone you know, local or visitors go there.
Pros: none
Cons: no customer service

I give it a -5 stars!
by lovemykitties2
My family and I went there on Xmas night. We ordered drinks, appetizers and finally dinner. Our server was very pleasant, wishing us a Merry Christmas first thing. For dinner I ordered the Chipotle chicken sandwich. When it came I took a bit out of it. It burned my mouth. I assumed that I had to get used to it. I took a second bite and determined that the sauce was so spicy it was inedible and I would get sick if I ate any more of it. I asked our server if I could have the sandwich made without the sauce. She said sure. In a couple of minutes she returned telling me that the manager said no I would be charged for another sandwich. I was surprised and asked her to send the manager over. He (Tony)came over and so did his attitude. He was sacrcastic and condesending. I told him it was inedible and that he should taste the sauce. He said "I do, every day." He tried to trick me into ordering the sandwich remade (so he could charge me for a second sandwich). When I said "but the girl said you would charge me for another sandwich", he VERY sarcastically said "Riigghhttt". When my husband told him to leave so we could finish our meal, Tony refused. My husband had to stand up and yell very loudly for him to leave us alone. Tony made a big production about telling us he was bringing the bill and that we were to leave. We sat there and finished our meal, except me of course. Our poor server was so upset by what the manager Tony was doing. She was near tears. I'm sure he ruined her Christmas as well as ours. I think Scrooge would have had a better attitude that Tony the manager of Yankee Doodles. Stay away from this place. It really should be closed down. Don't let anyone you know, local or visitors go there.
Pros: Our server was pleasant
Cons: Tony the manager, customer service, business practices

Nice!
by Goldfrappucino
Good place for sporting events. It gets very busy and chaotic. I've been here for NBA Finals and Super Bowls, and I've always had fun without spending way too much. The food is good and you get a lot for your hard earned cash. The drinks are cheap for the Promenade. Oh, and they have this massive burger called: THE MONSTER BURGER! The place erupted when it came out of the kitchen! MY GOD WAS IT MASSIVE! So in closing, GO!!!
Pros: THE MONSTER BURGER
Cons: Smelly people

WORST SERVICE IN CALIFORNIA
by nooch3271
Now i have been here mabye 60 times over the past few years. All big games for every sport. One thing that hasefinitely stayed the same, is the lack of service. These girls, who have been only hired by the size of their chest, are completely useless. I actually had a waitress from here tell me to "Order anything you want right now, cause i am gonna go across the street for a job interview" I mean come on..The drinks are good, and so is the food, but when you sit there at a table, waiting to order dinner, surrounded by girls who definitely are getting paid to blankly stare at their IPhones, have no idea who my waitress is, 20 minutes go by, and still nothing. Now i can undersatnd if this happens once or twice, but it is a everyday time occurence. There has been one waitress, this girl from Dearborn Heights Michigan, who did a good job and got tipped well for it. No one else there has anything on her. If you plan on going, try to sit at the bar. Its the onoly spot where you have a shot at some decent service.
Pros: Food and Televisions
Cons: Service, waitresses, attitudes

great BAR
by gengenuscgal
I love this bar! We found it by accident a few months ago when we my roommate and I went to meet her boyfriend out for drinks. I wasn't all that excited because we ALWAYS meet him at a sportsbar but I was pleasantly surprised. I can't say much as to the rest of the restaurant (the place is huge) but the actual bar is fabulous. There's music, a happy hour that starts late at nite, and I don't know how the rest of the food is, my friends and all I always get the yummy spinach dip!!! Also because its a sportsbar there's usually plenty of cute guys or you can always flirt with the hottie bartender vance (?) who is usually there nights. Plus theres tons of other bars within walking distance. It does get a little crowded with a poolhall type crowd (they've got a gazillion pool tables) and the dance floor is downstairs and usually theres almost noone on it
Pros: location, bartender
Cons: lacking good dance area

Who do you complain to when management is the problem??
by LW203
I've gone to Yankee Doodles multiple times over the past few years, and never really had a problem until this year. When I went a few weeks ago in a group of 4, we had the nachos as as appetizer. We finished off the chips and had a lot of salsa, etc. left so when a manager came over (our server was MIA and still hadn't brought our drinks) we asked him for more chips. His response was simply, "no, sorry." Not, "sure but we charge an extra $3" or something like that, which we would've agreed to. He just told us we had to order a full second order if we wanted more chips. How ridiculous is that?! I chalked it up to bad service that night and an even worse manager.
Well, this week I went there again for dinner with a friend. I ordered a beer but she ordered a lemon drop martini. When the martini came, it was clear and looked like it was pure alcohol. We questioned the drink but the server said they use clear lemonade. Um, ok.... So my friend tried and said it was absolutely disgusting and was the most vile drink she had ever had. I encouraged her to send it back but she didn't. Then eventually she agreed after having no more than 2 sips of the thing, and she told the server that she was sorry but just couldn't drink it. The server apologized and said ok one moment, & a couple minutes later the manager came over. We told him the problem assuming that he would apologize, take it off the bill, and offer her something else. Boy were we wrong! Instead, he said that unfortunately they NEVER COMP ALCOHOL. What?! My friend and I were so confused by his answer as he repeated himself and said again that its a policy of theirs. The only thing he offered was to add something to the drink, and then quickly clarified that of course they couldn't add any alcohol. What a moron! We could not believe what we were hearing. The server offered us a free dessert, but we declined.
I will never return to this place that clearly could not care less about their customers..
Pros: roomy and open, ok food
Cons: horrible management!, ok servers, awful bar drinks

Horrible all around..
by USCLandRover
We went to the Santa Monica Yankee Doodles there to eat. Outside was crowded so we decided to eat inside, that is until we got in there. Have they heard of an AC? It was hotter than heck in there. We then decided to just wait for a table outside. We got a table outside. The waitress walked by many times didn't even look at us. We finally ordered, I got the wings which were cold. Funny, it's hot as hell inside yet the wings are delivered cold. My girlfriend liked what she got but when were getting ready to go she asked for a to go box for her sandwich and a little container of the Chipotle sauce that came with it. The waitress said she "would have to charge us for the sauce". This was after I already paid the bill. I said how about we trade. I only ate two of my cold wings. Take them back and give her a container of sauce. (I didn?t even ask for a refund on the wings even though I ate only two!) She just laughed and walked off. Needless to say I won't be back and for the first time in my life I didn't tip. In the tip area I wrote "Give free sauce!" We weren't asking for a bottle, just a tiny amount. The couple next to me had bad service as well. He got his food a good 10 minutes before his girl. I guess chili fries take a long time to prepare. Anyways, I would avoid this place at all costs. There is no excuse for service like this. If you can?t run a business then close down and open that space for someone who can.
Pros: None
Cons: Bad all around

This place was so busy for Sunday's Lakers playoff game! I expected lousy service because of the game, but I was mistaken. Everything went smoothly. My drink was always topped off, and my food was delicious. The fettuccine is delicious! This place is really cool too. Lots of TV's, pool tables... oh, man there is soo much stuff! I recommend it!
Pros: Fettucine!

Cool hangout spot. There are so many things to do here. Pool, arcade, video games... My friends and I go for the pool and the drinks. The food is pretty good too. I would recommend this place without any doubts.
Pros: Pool and drinks
Cons: Hipsters that were hovering the pool table next to mine ... errr!

by foody2thecore
We had great food, great service - I'm not sure what the lady below is talking about, as Yankees was an all around cool local hang out.
We went to Yankees with a group of our friends and had a fantastic time! Service was great, food was typical, pool/darts were fun -- what more do you want -- it's a sports bar. All around we had a great time!

Best NBA Playoffs Hangout
by ASP08
I saw two NBA playoff games at this place last weekend, and my wife and I had ourselves a good time. Good crowd too. Let's see, I liked the burger I ordered. It was well prepared. It was big, and generally satisfying for what it cost. Drinks were pricey. Yea, that's nothing new on the Promenade. The server was pleasant. She came by to check on my wife and I more than once. The big screens and sound system got the job done. Good times.
Pros: Server, Food, Big Screens
Cons: Jukebox that can't make-up its mind.

Expensive, atrocious food; incredibly slow and inattentive service
by lot_49
Possibly the worst dining experience I've had since moving to the West Coast a year ago. Slow service and stunningly bad, cold food. Drinks took 10 minutes to arrive, and our coffee drinks took 20. Waiter had forgotten my request for a normal mug of coffee, when it finally arrived, the coffee was room-temperature cold. Although this is obviously a sports bar and not a coffeeshop, there was absolutely no difference between the latte and the cappuccinos the others in our party ordered. We had to send nachos back because once they arrived the "cheese sauce" had hardened into a cold, gummy, gelatin. My "Texas Burger" that advertised itself as having "onion rings" had a total of one [1] ring, one of the butt-end ones just under 2" in diameter. Would have sent back had it not already taken 30 minutes to arrive and I hadn't yet eaten that day. The promenade is expensive, yes, but each of our 10-15 dollar entrees was lower in quality, quantity, and taste than a Denny's. The only possible exception is the pizza: 10-15 bucks will get you a maybe-Little-Caesars-quality pizza the size of your plate. We had to constantly remind waitstaff of our refills, rather than count on him to be attentive. Our original waiter actually left while we were eating and introduced us to the young man who would take over our table, and this second young man was a much more helpful and enthusiastic employee, hopefully our tip went to him.
Two years ago, a reviewer said that they'd seen better restrooms at truck stops....this is still the case; clearly the management has done nothing to fix this.
There are far better sports bars to visit; Yankee Doodles gives unnecessarily expensive and subpar drinks, food, and service, presumably because their 3rd Street Promenade location affords them a mainly tourist clientele, so perhaps they think they don't have to worry about people returning. Stay far, far, away, and warn both tourists and unfamiliar locals alike.

Laziness killer
by santerme
I came here on a Saturday with a group of friends, and the only thing I can say about this bar-restaurant is that it's a laziness killer. Arcade games, loud music, pool! Ah, the pool! I lost a bunch of games but that's when the bar came in handy. Good times all around.
Pros: pool, drinks
Cons: the sting of losses

by galang86
Did I visit the same Yankee Doodles? Man, what's with all the negativity? I came to see a Laker game a few weekends ago, and my guys and I had a mighty fine time. We played a couple of rounds of pool before the game started, ate a lot, and drank a lot too! The prices are not too shabby. After all, the promenade IS pretty pricey. You really do get your money's worth here! The servers were attentive and fast, and they really made the experience that much better. Will my friends and I return? Definite yes!
Pros: that big burger, pool, giant screens, service, moscow mules
Cons: Santa Monica bums

I loved this place! Glad I came here for the Super Bowl! The big screens and the blasting sound really got me into the game. The service was fast, and the servers were spot-on, despite the crowd. The food and drinks really were fantastic! Mmmm, tequila sunrises and chicken wings!! Looking forward to visiting this place again for March Madness!
Pros: Big Screens, Sound, Food, Drinks, Service
Cons: The Patriots lost :(

I hosted a holiday event here, and it was the absolute best! We were in a private room with plenty of stuff to do. Pool, NBA games, darts...the list is endless! No one disturbed us, and we were catered to our every need. The buffet was top-notch and there was lots of variety. The drinks poured like there was no tomorrow! I did not get the bad service many people wrote about, and I really have nothing but good things to say about Yankee Doodles.
Pros: Variety, service, food, drinks!
Cons: None

BAD SERVICE!
by honestly324
This restaurant has the most horrible service I have even experienced. As a local, I would never go back. Some people forgive the service if the food was okay - but the food is NOT great and it made it worse because of the HORRIBLE SERVICE. We got our food after 1 hour and a half - the FOOD WAS COLD. Employees has a bad attitude! I guess they only stay in business because they have all these tourists to fool - but how embarassing that we offer this service to our visitors???
Pros: thumbs down - way down
Cons: thumbs down - way down

The Worst
by y2knube
Unless you know exactly what you are ordering don't. This past weekend my girlfriend and I went and she didn't like her salad( Field Greens YUK!!!). I asked if we could buy something else instead. Their response was sure you can but will will not take her salad off the bill. I couldn't believe it. They say that because your suppose to know what you ordered. That's ridiculous..... I will NEVER go there again. As a matter of fact if I can find the corporate office phone number I will be giving them a call.
Pros: There are none
Cons: This place has HORRIBLE Customer Service

Not a dandy!
by ganderman
We chose this place so we could watch the Dodgers game while dining. No problem with that, but the rest of the experience was a bummer. First: Bad karaoke being ?sung? in the downstairs bar area was completely audible to those of us dining upstairs. Next: Our server was in training, but even taking that into account, he and his trainer couldn't get it together to bring us just a couple of sides in under fifteen minutes (!). I eventually had to get up from our table and hunt them down. Then: Even after having had to wait for them for so long, we were charged extra for these sides -- fifty cents for a little mayo to go with my wife's sandwich and fries, and a dollar for some jalapenos to go with my nachos. Seems to me that these kinds of sides kind of go with these kinds of items in the first place. Do they really rate an additional charge? In fact, aren?t they really more condiments than sides? (BTW: We weren't told about these charges when we ordered the items. I deducted these charges from the gratuity.) Finally: The men's room was a little nasty. Add it all up and you have a pretty lousy experience. There are far worse things to worry about in this world, of course, but I thought it only fair to warn our fellow Angelinos about this place. (BTW: I wasn't particularly impressed with my nachos, but my wife thought her sandwich and fries were pretty good, so I feel okay giving this place one star for that.)

Cool place to watch the playoffs with a large crowd!
by dbuk
Watched the Lakers' losing effort here with my buddies this past Sunday, and I must say, this place is pretty sweet! The game was shown on 3 big screens, and the place was packed with like-minded Laker fans! The food was great, and the portions were HUGE! The service was pretty fast and pleasant, despite the large crowd. Cute waitresses too ;). This is THE perfect place to throw back some drinks with your crew, and watch the BIG games. Highly recommended!
Pros: The set-up, the food, the service, the crowd!
Cons: The Lakers losing

Cons: Bathrooms were horrendous.....really bad. Premium drinks were very expensive.

I am not sure what this bar has going for it except that there are a ton of tourists on third street. But for locals, I could not think of many worse places to go in LA. The food is bad, the atmosphere is dingy, and the lay out is horrible. Not recommended unless you 1) want to watch a football game and cant find anywhere else to go or 2) want to play pool and cannot find another pool table in town.

by gluhak
I have been coming to Yankee Doodle for the past couple of years, and I was always able to count on this place to be a great neighborhood bar. The staff is always very friendly and nice to talk with... I came in this past week and noticed a lot of changes. This is not neighborhood bar I like to call home. The staff is the same, but they don't seem to be happy like they usually are. They have dressed the girls in men's clothing and frankly it makes the place stiff and awkward, and the staff looks miserable. I hope that they haven't changed ownership, because it would be ashame for a great place like this to turn into something like a Denny's with big screens!

The Hot Spot On 3rd Street

I went to 3rd Street for a little Christmas shopping, and stopped in Yankee Doodles for an "after Shopping" drink with some of my friends...Un expectingly we ended up having the time of our lives....the bartenders are great, funny and entertaining to the fullest, we played pool, watched a Laker game on a millon big screens, and ate some great food all for a decent price. The service was great, everyone that worked there just seemed like they were having a great time. i cant think of a better place to watch the rowls bowl and super bowl...over all it was a great first experience.
Pros: Great Crowd, prices are great

The place to go in Santa Monica
by la_sports_guy
Yankee Doodles is a great place for entertainment! Whether it's the boy's going out to catch a game or play some pool, the girl's going out for some drinks and meeting new people, the family going out for a nice sit-down dinner or you just need a place to relax your feet for a while and do some people watching. Between the multitude of people, the numerous TV's, the many pool tables, the video games, the weekend VJ, the patio, the great food & drinks and the friendly staff you won't be bored or dissapointed!
Pros: TV's everywhere..., showing all sports..., all the time.
Cons: Walking the Promenade, Paying for parking

After hearing about Yankee Doodles from a good friend of mine I decided I'd go catch the NFL games on Thanksgiving morning. WOW! The place is great! They have a little something for everyone...TV's (big screens, plasmas, etc) everywhere for the sports fan; video games for the kids 7 gamers; nice patio for the people watchers & smokers; pool tables for entertainment; etc. The service was great, the food was excellent, the bartender's know how to make their drinks & the staff is very friendly!
Pros: Lots of TV's, Great Service, Good food & drinks
Cons: Crowded, Sensory overload

It's a great place to have some beer and watch the game!! The pool tables are plentiful and the best part is you don't EVER have to go to the bar!! There is always a coctail waitress to keep the drinks flowin'! Plus, they're cute! So, how can you go wrong... lots of variety in the beer department, sports, pool tables, and cute girls!! Can't beat that!!

I would just like to say that my girlfriends and I go to Yankee Doodles for all the big college and NFL games every weekend. The bartenders and managers have also become part of the reason why we go because their always cheering with us and never hold us back from ordering another round. Just this past weekend it was my best friend's birthday and they gave her a little piece of heaven birthday cake and the bar kept the shots comin. Go SC!!! And a shout out to Ohio State for my roomate!!!
Pros: Good Parking, Cheap pints, Happy Hour
