Perhaps our expectations were too high. It has a cool name and when you walk in a nice atmosphere. But, the food was "meh" (the fries were by far the best part of the meal). The service was uncaring and slow. The busboys were fine, but the waitress did not seem to care at all.

My friends treated me to dinner at La Provence and I was very impressed with the warm reception from our waitress. The atmosphere is pretty French provinciale with a twist of California. The food was excellent and everyone had a splendid time. The tables are set conveniently apart that even with the restaurant close to full capacity you can still have a pleasant private conversation with people on your table. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for anyone interested in fine dining and classy atmosphere. You can't go wrong.

I live within walking distance of La Provence and eat there quite often. With the recent opening of the park next to La Provence we utilize the dog leash parks and bike trails during the weekends and stop in for their "graffeo" (not sure of the spelling) coffee, espresso, and fresh french cookies. Last time I was in they added some local producer's cheese and olive oils into their deli. It's a beautiful place that reminds me the french cafe's in Provence.

I am a "foodie", I enjoy good, fresh, regional ingredients prepared with passion. I definately recommend that you follow the Mike Dunne articles in the Sacramento Bee and enjoy his reviews and blogs. I can see why he has consistently given La Provence a top 10 rating in Sacramento. The heirloom tomatoes are actually heirloom and in their proper season! The dishes I enjoy the most are the gnocci, lamb, and the foie when they have it. I' also enjoy Hawks and Taste, but La Provence has that extra touch. As long as I remember Ruth Chris, Il Foranio and Piatti are all chains and purchase their food like a chain going into a meal, they're not bad.

I've attended a couple of wine dinners at La Provence, Cakebread, Jordan and Silver Oak to be specific and had a magical time. The food was to die for and the pairings amazing. The wine list has a great selection of french and foothill wines.

It hasn't always been perfect but when we've asked for a manager they greeted us warmly and quickly resolved any issue we had. If I had a criticism it's that they can be too busy and too loud at peak times, but their recent addition of oil paintings on the walls has seemed to help.

I've dined at La Provence when they've lit outdoor fire pits with real wood and we were able to go out and take our desserts and coffee outside and interact with other guests doing the same.I've actually seen them have small garden weddings at sunset during spring and fall. It is truly a romantic place that my wife and I enjoy.

Pros: Live jazz, ambience, outdoor garden dining, romantic

Cons: Can be difficult to find, noisy at peak times

We first dined at La Provence after Mike Dunne of the Sacramento Bee included them in his top 10 Sacramento restaurants back in 2004. Our first experience was good, lunch service was a little slow and it seemed in the middle of nowhere.

We've returned many times and it has become our favorite restaurant in Sacramento/Roseville area. The architecture is beautiful and the place if truly romantic. We would dine on the terrace during the summers and listen to the live jazz and walk home many nights. Upon our engagement, my wife insisted that we be married at La Provence!

We were married during the summer of 2005 in a beautiful sunset garden wedding. The cheese and the wine set a relaxed tone for us and our guests. The reception in front of their main fireplace dining area was amazing. We had 140 people, 20 were children. They did a great child's buffet! I actually caught some of our guests dipping into the fries on the sly. Our meals were a work of art and every meal came out hot and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and warm. We danced the night away in their private room and had a blast. I can't believe how much fun I actually had at my own wedding.

La Provence host's some bridal meets that we've been invited too and I highly recommend them. The last one we met a lot of fellow Roseville residents and ate smores by their outdoor fire-pits and overlooked the new parks that recently opened.

We have continued to dine and have enjoyed the local Roseville artists that do classes of painting and watercolors on the weekends, as well as the monthly wine dinners. If you haven't had their hamburger, you must try. Many times we just get a burger and some gnocchi at the bar as they have a great happy hour discount. Our friends attend their Family Nights and say their children enjoy them very much.

I recommend La Provence to anyone, we've enjoyed many meals, seen many neighbors there and now have plenty of special moments that include La Provence.

Every detail is given thought and attention at La Provence -- the site, the building, the friendly, professional staff, the warm atmosphere, the great food. And yet, guests feel so relaxed and comfortable. As wonderful a choice for a romantic dinner for two, a gathering of family or friends or a beautiful wedding. It has captured its name -- a bit of "La Provence.

The main dining room is great. Make sure they don't stick you in the overflow room. It's like being in Cattleman's. Noisy and no ambiance. The food and service are OK but nothing special.

A great place to brush up on your French! You will hear many people speaking French at this place. The ambiance is great and so is the food. The service is good too!

PROS: French cuisine, French speaking waiters
CONS: None
